Shamanism is a spiritual practice in which a Shaman oversees the spiritual and physical well being of a tribe, village or group of people (families and individuals), often undertaking and or leading such things as dream/vision quests, hunting and war dances and rituals, initiation rituals, rites of passage and healing rituals.

As long as mankind has been self-aware, we have had someone or sometimes several people in our groups who through observation, and trial & error have garnered information about the plants, minerals, animal products and there properties and uses.

The accumulation of this information, and the repeated uses developed into the first healing. Add to that, it is a known fact that if the patient is engaged and included in the cure, things work better (the power of the human mind is still largely untapped and not fully understood), so a few words and gestures were added to the healing, eventually evolving into standardised rituals.

As more information was gathered and rituals became things of power, it became important to the groups that they have someone trained in their rituals. Hence Shamans became valued and revered members of the community.

Many practices and customs of Pagan people were so deeply rooted in the hearts of the Pagan people that the Christians wanted to convert so they found ways of combining them into the new practices of Christianity to make it easier for converting Pagan people to Christianity.

Paganism is an umbrella term that encompasses all of the non-abrahamic religions. This means that every religion that has not descended from Judaism, Christianity, or Islam is pagan. Wicca, Ásatrú, Hellenic Polytheism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Shinto, and Taoism are all examples of pagan religions.

The Eastern Woodlands believed in the Great Spirit which was a supernatural being. They also believed that there was constant interaction between the physical and spiritual world.

A dumb supper is a pagan ritual that is performed usually on Samhain. (the pagan term for Halloween) It involves sitting down at a dinner table as you would any other night, but you set the table with food and drink at the empty seats as well so that the ancestors may dine with you. It is an offering in remembrance of them and it is a show of respect and love to those who have been lost.

Being pagan is only considered sinful by alternative religions to paganism. We pagans, ourselves don't see it as being a sin to be pagan. Just like Catholics don't believe that Catholicism is sinful or Muslims thinking being Muslim is sinful. It's all a point of personal reference based on your own beliefs.

However the reason Christians believe paganism is a sin is because of what the pope said back in the 1400s. In order to convert the majority of people (who where at that time pagan) to the Christian faith, they started to pervert the beliefs of the pagan people. Examples of which included, the pagan god becoming the Christian devil, casting spells, talking to spirits, using divination all became a sin in the attempt to scare people into turning to Christianity. In short it was (and continues to be) all manipulation, propaganda and lies.
