Wicca is a facet of Paganism. Like Lutherans, Catholics and Seventh Day Adventists are Christians. The early practitioners of the Wiccan religion and of all Pagans in general were singled out and dubbed witches by the Roman Catholic Church and linked to devil worship. This was done in an effort to gain power, followers, acceptance and wealth. Thus today Wiccans and witchcraft have the negative connotations they do when in essence it was and is a religious system based on affinity with mother earth, use of herbs and other plants for various maladies and with groups of people combining their spiritual powers to effect changes or occurrences for the greater good.
Pagan is a term encompassing any religion that does not descend from early Abrahamic faiths (meaning, essentially, anything not of or related to Judaism, Christianity or Islam). This means that most world and ethnic religions are "pagan" and so their beliefs vary.
Most pagan religions had a reverence for nature, structured their religious beliefs around their interactions with the Earth (agricultural societies tended to hold celebrations at important points in the farming year, such as planting times and harvests), and believed in several gods.
Is paganism a recognized religion?
The status of any religion in terms of recognition will vary between cultures and nations. What is a recognised faith in one area might be rejected in another. In the case of paganism, an additional problem is that there is no one 'pagan' religion. Paganism as an umbrella term includes a wide range of different beliefs and practices. For example, Wicca is considered to be a pagan religion (or 'neo-pagan', as is sometimes preferred), but so is Asatru* - yet the two religions have relatively little in common.
As well, there is the question of what qualifies as a 'recognised' religion. In some countries, there is an 'official' religion which is asserted to be that of the country as a whole. In many western nations, as here in the UK, there is no specific list of 'recognised' religions (although in the case of the UK, Anglican Christianity must be considered 'official' in one sense, since traditionally there are Anglican bishops sitting in the House of Lords).
But anti-discrimination legislation in the UK tends to describe religion as a whole concept rather than list specific faiths.
No doubt there are areas where paganism is recognised, others where it is not, and many where no specific 'recognised' status is necessary for a religion.

* Although practitioners of Asatru generally prefer the term 'heathen' to that of 'pagan'.
How do you remove black magic in a Christian way?
Interesting question... The answer is of course YOU don't (remove the curse). GOD removes it. The temptation of magic or sorcery of any kind is that it allows us to believe we are in control. When we try to take control and to put oneself or something/someone else in God's place we inevitably make a mess of things (See the story of Adam and Eve for an example). The Good News of Christianity and the power that comes with it comes from knowing and trusting that God is in control and that God is a loving and gracious God. Thus the life of the Christian is based on turning to God for direction and deliverance in our lives. Getting back to the a direct answer to your question. You will undoubtedly get recipes for removal of a curse. Some will suggest Christian symbols such as Holy Water. I would argue that recipes are simply a way of trying to use magic against magic, sorcery against sorcery. That would not be truly Christian in its essence. For a truly Christian anit-curse, I suggest you immerse yourself in God's loving protection. This can happen in all sorts of ways, but typically includes worshiping regularly with the People of God (aka the Church), reading your Bible and praying, singing, meditating, fasting, etc. The point of all these is not removing a curse, but to come closer to God. It is being one with God, being enveloped in God's presence, which is your strongest anti-curse. After all, what curse can harm God? And what curse can harm the one who abides in God?
Besides the one who doesn't defend themselves, of course.
What did pagan originally mean?
This word is really interesting.
It originates in the Latin word pagus - which meant 'country district'. That word led the Romans to call a rural person paganus. This then came to mean a civilian - as the people the Roman army encountered were generally countrypeople and also not in the army.
When Christianity 'inherited' Latin the word paganus took on the meaning of someone not in the army of Christ.
This word became pagan in English
From that word we get the word propaganda - coming from a commission of the Church whcih was charged with spreading the faith to the pagans..... congregatio de propaganda fide.
Pagan comes from a Latin word paganus, meaning villager, rustic, civilian, and itself comes from paguswhich refers to a rural district.
What is the meaning of the pentagram tattoo?
The five or Pentagram has always had mystical meaning. It has been found scratched in stone age caves as old as man himself. It has always been with us. It has been closely associated with astronomical and religious meaning and at certain points in history with sinister doings. Babylonian,Sumatran and Hebrew writings and drawings were often embellished with the pentagram.
According to the Greek philosopher Pythagoras, five was the number of Mankind.
The five being elements of fire, water, air, earth and the spirit.
The pentagram was a preferred emblem to adorn the jewelry and amulets of early Christians. They wore the pentagram as representing the five wounds of Christ on the cross while at the same time it symbolized doctrines of Magic, Alchemy and Kabbalah to non-Christian groups.
In the time of the Greeks the pentagram was used to create closeness to the gods through ritual symbolism.
In these modern times, the pentagram has been most associated with NeoPagans and Wiccans. In most Wiccan and Pagan rituals, its symbolic meaning is derived from Ceremonial Magic and protection. The five are the four elements ruled by the spirit. In many of these rituals the pentagram also symbolizes unity of the circle with the realm of the spirit and the elements.
Many of the Founding Fathers of the United States were Freemasons, to whom the Pentagram is an important symbol. The five pointed star appears in much of the countries early iconography. The US flag, the Great Seal, and on its currency. It is even to be found in the Capitol, where the White House sits at the apex of a giant pentagram.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A pentagram can also be used as a form of protection from evil, and can arise energy within to use in spellwork.
Blessed Be, Mason_dragon
A pentagram without the circle around is known for the 5 elements (years ago ice was considered an element) and a pentagram with a circle around means protection or if upside down the god of pleasure. The pentagram is often rolated to the devil because when upside down it looks like the god of pleasure, which had horns, pointy ears and a goatee. Christians disapproved of the god of pleasure due to the fact that they tried so hard to avoid certain pleasures because they believe once they've sinned their domed forever but Catholics had a different approach which was if they sinned they could ask for, forgiveness, receive it then be okay, so the Christians started saying the god of pleasure as the devil so that Christians would hopefully fear the idea of catholics or would not be tempted to join a new religion.
A Pentacle is a pentagram with a circle around it, it has multiple meanings.
1) The 5 elements: Fire, water, earth, air, and spirit.
2) Inverted is the sign of the unelightened spirit being at the bottom rather than the top.
3) Depending on how its drawn it can be for invoking (Magick rights) or for banishing (or protection) i believe drawing it widdershins (starting with the horizontal line) is for invoking and drawing it deosil (starting with the more vertical left line) is for banishing.
4) An inverted pentacle is commonly used by satanists but originated with wiccans as a sign for the high priest or priestess.
There is a book in the Bible named after Ruth, but she did not write it herself. It was probably written a century after she died.
Ruth was a virtuous woman whom Jews and Christians celebrate as one of the Bible's heroines. But she is not usually considered a prophet because she never made a prophecy.
Yes. They do.
Not however, in the romanticized Harry Potter sense but there are those that supposedly practice "magic"like Voodoo and stuff and they Do Not Wear Robes Or Anything Because They Have To Be Hidden From Human Beings. They Do Not Have Wands Either. They Do Not Go To Wizarding Schools Anyway.
They exist according to some religions such as Islam also. But then they are evil people who have acquired supernatural powers through unfair means.
An alternative view:
There are some magical practitioners within the neo-pagan community who refer to themselves as Wizards.
There are practicing "witches" and I'm sure there are practicing "wizards".
This is usually as a relation to the Wiccan religion and is done using earth magic.
There are magic shops, that sell spells, wands, books, herbs, incense, and clothing for those who feel the need of such things to allow more of a connection to the earth's inner magic.
Yes wizards and witches do exist. They exist according to some religions such as Islam also. But then they are evil people who have acquired supernatural powers through unfair means.
An alternative view:
There are some magickal practitioners within the neo-pagan community who refer to themselves as Wizards.
Another view:
wizards do exist
In my head yes they exist
Where does the practice of Shamanism originate from?
There is a lot of discussion and opinion on what a shaman is. The word itself is rooted in the word šaman from the Tungus people in central Asia. The shaman, is a mystical, priestly, and political figure emerging during the Upper Palaeolithic period and perhaps going back to Neanderthal times, can be described not only as a specialist in the human soul but also as a generalist whose sacred and social functions can cover an extraordinarily wide range of activities. Shamans are healers, seers, and visionaries who have mastered death. They are in communication with the world of gods and spirits. Their bodies can be left behind while they fly to unearthly realms. They are poets and singers. They dance and create works of art. They are not only spiritual leaders but also the judges and politicians, sacred and secular. They are familiar with cosmic as well as physical geography; they know the ways of plants and animals, and the elements. They are psychologists, entertainers, and food finders. Above all, however shamans are technicians of the sacred and masters of ecstasy. The ancients knew and experienced that there is an energy normally invisible, which connects all that exists, and they lived with the knowledge of this energy and how to use it. This concept of the inter-relationship and understanding that man is a part of nature, not separate to it. “What befalls the Earth befalls all the sons of the Earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web he does to himself.”
What is the difference between rites of passage and rituals?
A passage is a change in some aspect of one's life. A rite of passage is an activity in which one engages to mark or celebrate a passage. An example of each is found in a graduation. The graduation...leaving the school to embark on other activities such as work or travel...is a passage, the graduation ceremony with the cap and gown is a rite of passage.

What roman emperor closed the pagan temples?
The emperor who finally allowed Christianity in Ancient Rome was Emperor Constantine, but he did not close down the pagan temples. It wasn't until he died and his son, Constans, took over the Western portion of the nation that the old forms of Grecco-Roman pagan worship were banned and those who still followed the religion were threatened with the death penalty. It was then that the destruction of old temples began, though it was most by citizens and not by armies under the order of the emperor (though I'm sure he encouraged it, even if he didn't order it). Temples that survived the pillaging and destruction were converted to Christian churches. In 391, Theodosius banned all forms of non-Christian worship (instead of exclusively banning Grecco-Roman polytheism) putting the final nail in the old pagan religion's coffin, so to speak.
The short answer is, Yes. We believe in God and a Goddess (everything in nature works on the coupling of male and female so why would there only be a Male God?)
What was the roman belief concerning a barren woman and the Lupercalia holiday?
Young women, lined the route of the celebratory "run around the city" hoping to be "whipped" by the februa of the celebrants. This was to ensure fertility, and ease the pains of childbirth. Barren women often joined the lines hoping the touch of the februa would make them fertile.

How do you get objects in your home to stop vanishing?
If this is a new home (or new to you), I'd ask, did you do a cleansing and house blessing when you moved in? If not I'd remedy that as soon as possible.
If you have lived in the house for more than a year and this has just started, check to see if anyone in the household has "invited" something in. If so deal with that, if not, spend a bit of time and note, what, when, and where the things disappear.
It could be something as simple as being forgetful when you are in a hurry or stressed out... My friend's keys always go missing when he has to go deal with his sister-in-law. Sometimes there are non-mystical answers to these things.
If it is mystical in nature and a big problem, go to the effort of having someone who knows what they are doing, try to connect with your trouble-maker and resolve the problem...
If however it is small and mostly just annoying, my best suggestion is to do what I do when the "pixies" get into my stuff...
Go to the doorway (of the house or the room) and as you are about to step over the threshold look over your left shoulder and in a firm voice (the one you use on large dogs and small children) say "Alright, put it back." and leave the room/house.
Return in about 10 minutes, after you have had time to calm down and be less frantic and start a methodical search. The item should be back... remember to say thank you and try making the "pixies" less inclined to play trick on you by leaving them treats.
I have a friend who swears by chocolate kisses... myself, I leave the traditional bread and milk...
What were Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s beliefs on pagan and occult?
Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister and Baptism as well as his interpretation of Christianity had a profound influence on his life and teachings. That being said, he did have some views on Christianity and its relation to pagan religions. In his paper, A Study in Mithraism, King wrote that Christianity was born from a mystery religion, stating "...It is not at all surprising in view of the wide and growing influence of these religions that when the disciples in Antioch and elsewhere preached a crucified and risen Jesus they should be regarded as the heralds of another Mystery Religion, and that Jesus himself should be taken for the divine Lord of the cult through whose death and resurrection salvation was to be had." Other than stating Christianity began as a secretive cult, which is an opinion many scholars and historians on early Christianity agree on, he made little to no other mentions of "mystery religions" or the occult. Christianity started out small and was persecuted by the Romans and Jewish leaders at the time, so King stated that it began as a secretive cult in order to survive.

How do you set up a Pagan altar?
Paganism is a very personal path. Everything about your path is a reflection of you. Make sure your altar reflects that too. The more personal you make it the better.
Some people have their altar stay up all year and it isn't uncommon to see people have more than one altar. Some may have one altar and change it as the Wheel of the Year turns.
First think about where you want to put it. Do you want everyone to see it? Do you live in an place where you'd like to keep your altar private? You may wish to just create a "portable altar"
Find a nice box or bag to keep your tools in, that way it can be put away and hidden. It can be as small as a corner on a nightstand to your whole coffee table. It can be as simple as a floating candle with a plant next to it.
Anything that feels right to you belongs on your altar. Though there is no right or wrong way to set your alter up. You do want to include the elements Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Usually your stuff that represents the elements are aligned with the four cardinal directions. North is Earth, East is Air, West is Water, and South is Fire.
Here are some examples of altars. Ancestor Altar, which includes photos, ashes or heirlooms from deceased family members. Some people enjoy having a Nature Altar, on which they place interesting items they find while out and about - a rock, a pretty seashell, a chunk of wood that looks appealing. Remember your altar is as personal as your spiritual path, so use it to hold the things you value.
