What are aprons used for in the workshop?

What are the best driveway alarm systems?
The RoboGuard we've found to be the best system. We've had ours two years now and the batteries have never needed changing. It doesn't false alarm and although it works great alone we have ours connected to our home alarm system and our gates. We bought the 4 button remote accessory and 3 of the buttons on there operate our gates, outside lights and as a panic facility. I think you can expand the system as much as you want really, using the RoboGuard receiver as the control unit or connecting it to other systems.
Ours was installed by a builder friend of ours but by the looks of it as it's wireless it's something you can easily do yourself - and wiring accessories to it is easy as it's just a one wire connection to your lights, alarm or relay.
There's a few websites online giving info about it; this ones in the UK but it says they ship worldwide

What do you do if you run into a power pole?
Unless you are in immediate danger, stay in your car. Call for help if you can.
If you must leave it, leave whatever way is farthest from the pole or any downed lines. If you have no option (maybe the car is on fire or about to explode) but to go near wires, find the ground cable (should be the lowest one on the pole) and follow it away. Very high voltage can jump, but if the ground cable is between you and the high tensions lines, the voltage will jump to the ground, not toward you. Assuming you get out safely, call for help if you can.

They don't cost that much, and it also depends on where you are. I suggest you approach your electrician or electrical supplier, explain to him what you need it for and then he will then tell you the cost. Installation will be extra, as you can guess.
Class B fire extinguishers are best suited to fight what time to fire?
It depends: a fire that is paper, furniture, would use a soda water to extinguish the flames. Petrol or ignited solvents is best extinguishes using dry powder, or foam. A soda water extinguisher would simply spread the flames and make it far worse. In a boat, a foam extinguisher is best. A carbon dioxide extinguisher is best in a room of computers, other electrical devices or where you don't want too much damage to equipment or papers.

How can you catch a thief getting into your house when locks alarms surviellance will not work?
You don't want to. Statistically, it is rare that the thief is a professional. If he were, he would not be breaking in to your home when you were there. Most burglaries are committed by someone desperate to get hold of anything to pawn - usually to fund a drug habit. These people are scared, emotional and erratic. If you confront them, you might just get yourself killed. The smart thing to do is to call 911 and get out of the house if you can. Otherwise hide and wait for the cops.

What should you do if someone pulls a gun out on you?
Depending on the range/distance between you and the gunman, and your experience in hand-to-hand combat, you can either subdue the gunman or comply to his wishes.
You should remain calm. Sometimes, talking a violent person "down" is best, although it can be complicated. So the best strategy is to honestly relate to the offender as a human being. People have relied on all sorts of ways to get an offender to listen to reason or emotion or both, some with greater success than others. For examples:
1. In the news in recent years, a woman talked to her home invader who was holding a gun on her; she used the Bible to talk to him about his life and choices.
2. A young mother who had her toddler with her used her child, telling the gunman that the child could easily get hurt by mistake and asking him to let them both go. She was successful.
3. Police and ministers often talk to the gunman about important family relationships. It's harder to think violent thoughts when thinking about someone you love and who loves you.
Important points
1. A gun is more powerful than someone untrained in hand-to-hand combat.
2. A gun can accidentally discharge during a struggle.
3. Arguing can anger the gunman.
4. Never go from Location A to Location B if you can prevent it. Never willingly get into a car if you can avoid it.
5. Find the gunman's humanity if you can. Be real; be honest.
6. Nothing you do -- or don't do -- can guarantee you won't be shot.
7. Trust your instincts and use them.

Can platinum rings be cut off?
Platinum rings can absolutely be cut off. The only metal you have to worry about not being to cut off is titanium or tungsten. They can be cut off in emergency situations, but your local jewelry may not have the tools to cut them off. In some circumstances, you may have to visit the local hospital or firehall, as those institutions usually have the tools necessary to help you out. In the case of platinum, however, your jeweler should be able to cut it off without a problem.
Should you leave the heat on in an empty house during the winter?
This depends on the quality of the home's insulation, the method used for heating (oil, gas, electric), the length of time them home is expected to be empty, the outside temperature, and many other variables, including the current price of the energy used.
Generally, in a home where a person leaves for work and returns daily (the usual situation for most heating systems), it is best to leave the heat at a single setting. Alternately, if one's home is equipped with a programmable thermostat (currently federal law for new installations), it can be beneficial to program a small dip in temperature during specific periods of time when the house will be unoccupied. The thinking behind this is that it is more efficient to maintain the house at a single temperature, than to repeatedly re-heat the entire house. The lower the outside temperature, the more this is the case. In sub-zero temperatures, it would take an incredible amount of energy to allow the indoor temperature to freefall during the day, and then reheat the whole house every night. This would result not only in higher heating costs, but increased wear and tear on the heating hardware itself. In warmer temperatures, this is less so.
If leaving for an extended absence, such as in the case of a vacation longer than a few days, or seasonal absence, then the heat should definitely be left off. However, be aware of freezing-related damage that may occur within the home. Without any internal heating, you might encounter problems that would normally not be an issue, such as plumbing damage from water freezing in the pipes, etc. The longer the absence, the more energy and money will be saved by turning off the heat.
Air conditioning is another story. High humidity (which is also corrected by A/C systems) can damage paint, drywall, wallpaper, electronics, etc.
Why is it important to have a well planned kitchen?
One thing everyone does at least once a day is to prepare food. And trust me, having a crappy kitchen makes that a real chore. My current kitchen is large but so poorly laid out that cooking a meal is like running a marathon. I have to lap around the kitchen to gather up ingredients, pans, utensils.... And then when I am done i have to fight with dishwasher to get the clean things out and put away so I can put my dirty dishes in. GAH! I can't wait until I can take a sledge hammer to the whole thing.
