What causes the throttle to rev up and down while driving on a 2000 pontiac grand prix?

My 2000 Pontaic Grand Prix GT has been doing the same thing and the dealer where I got it said that I needed to replace the Mass Air Flow Sensor, the also said cleaning it would help but I tried that and it didn't work. I checked on the price of that part and it was 139.00 plus an 87.00 core charge fee that would be refunded after the old part was returned to the store. Maybe that will help you in fixing your car.

hey i also have the same problem. my research tells me that i could be dirty injectors, bad o-rings on injectors, bad compression on one or more cylenders, or a faulty air idle motor. the motor is a valve that controls the engins used air that goes back in the intake manifold. and its on the right side of the motor. its not covered by anything and is near the fuel rails. its probally easy to replace. that's all i know, hope i helped

What is 2000 grand prix diagnostic trouble code 128?

Trouble code P0128 means: ECT Sensor Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature

Why would a 97 grand prix screech like it has low power steering fluid however fluid level is fine What could it be?

If the screech varies when the throttle is applied it could be the bearing of a tensioner or idler pulley for the serpentine belts. If it is a high pitched whine it could be a water pump. Take it to someone with some automotive experience and have it diagnosed. Then have the worn out part replaced. Hope this helps. "G" You might want to check your belt also. My car was screeching too and it was the belt, even though the belt didn't look bad at all. I was kind of shocked that that's all it was. Simple fix. R1-guy

Will a 1968 Pontiac motor fit in a 1978 Pontiac grand prix?

It should fit fine. The 455 will be tight fit with ac. I have a 71 Pontiac 350 Catalina engine in a 80 Pontiac grand prix with everything hooked up except smog pump. Lots of room left.

Yes it will fit, There were no 455s produced in 1968. The largest Pontiac V8 that year was the 428. 455,428,421,400,389,370,347,326,317,287 and 350 Pontiac motors are all physically about the same external dimensions. The is no "small" or "big" block Pontiac V8 except for the 1977-1981 265/301 which were the same legnth as earlier V8s, but had a 1" shorter deck height. The only potential problems you may have are changing motor mounts (pre 1970 blocks only have 2 mount bolts per side), wiring issues (starter on wrong side if a Chevy originally), and if the car was originally equipped with a Chevy engine the transmission will not bolt up, as Buick, olds,Pontiac use the same bellhousing, Chevy has a different pattern.

Where is the sensor on a 2000 Grand Prix for the outside temperature readout?

The sensor is located at the very front of the car on the pass. side. away from all the heat and as close to the ground to get a normal outside temp. if you lay on your back from the center of the car and just slide under the front fender you will see a sensor attached to the front plastic pannel just to your right a little It is held on by a plastic barb thingie. If you want to replace it, just pull it out, unplug it, plug new sensor in, push barb back in hole. Shouldnt take longer than a minute. (courtesy of another posting) Hope this helps. "G"

Where is the PCV valve located on a 1998 Grand Prix GT?

It is not like most cars that I have had where you simply pull off a hose and pull out the valve. It is inside a housing that you remove two bolts and take off the cover which has a heavy duty spring under it so take it off slowly. Then remove the spring and I used some needle-nose pliers to grab the nipple of the valve and it pulled right out. I then replaced it with a new valve and put it back together the same way I took it off.

For a detailed desrciption of how to replace with pics check out:

What do you do if your key is stuck in the ignition of a 2002 Pontiac Gran Prix. The ignition will not turn to the lock position for me to remove the key?

if you feel the underside of the steering column cover (under where the key enters), you should feel a small hole; you can insert a pencil or thin screwdriver and you will feel a button depress & your key will come out. I had the same problem and eventually i had to replace the ignition.

Install rear speakers in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix?

Found this on another web site: to quote: " I have a 2000 Grand Prix Myself, it should almost be the same. You're gonna have to take the whole rear seat out first before you can get to the speakers. The bottom part of the seat is easy, you just gotta find 2 latches locate right in the middle of where both the rear seat passengers would sit, all you gotta do is pull it and it'll come out easy. The second part of the seat (The one that your back rests on i don't know what is called :P) is held by 2 bolts and the seatbelts, unscrew them both and when ready pull up and out, it should come out easy. After that its easy to get to the rear dash, unscrew the old speakers and install the new ones. It'll probably take an hour or so if its your first time once you get the hang of it its really easy, I installed both rear speakers and also wired up the sub and amp under the carpet of my grand prix. How do you program a keyless remote for a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix?

1)With the driver door closed, hold down the power unlock button on the door panel.

2)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position

3)Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position

4)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position

5)Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position

6)Release the power unlock button on the door panel.

The remote control door lock receiver will respond in the following manner in order to indicate that the receiver is in the programming mode:

6.1)Locking the doors

6.2)Unlocking the doors

IMPORTANT:

All extra transmitters must be programmed at this time. When a new transmitter is programmed it will deactivate the old transmitters.

7)Hold down the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter until the remote control door lock receiver will respond in the following manner:

7.1)Locking the doors

7.2)Unlocking the doors

Repeat step 7 for each additional transmitter

9) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.

There... your little GM secret is finally known... Now can someone out there start posting these program codes for the rest of us!

This is why it don't work. This is one you need a scan tool for. Stupid Idea. The procedures are different for each car, and model year, the one mitch supplied looks like the one for older silverado trucks, not sure though.

Transmitter Programming

A remote door lock receiver may have up to 4 different transmitters programmed. You may program a transmitter to more than 1 vehicle providing the remote keyless entry systems are similar. When reprogramming 1 transmitter, reprogram any and all other transmitters (maximum of 4 total per receiver) at the same time in order for the other transmitters to work.

Important

Leave a window down in the vehicle while reprogramming the remote control door lock receiver system. This procedure will avoid an unintentional lock out if the reprogramming is not performed properly.

Turn off the ignition.

Utilize a Tech 2 to program the remote door lock receiver.

Enter diagnostics (F0).

Enter body (F1); select the year (X) and body style (N).

Select "Remote Function Actuation" (F3).

Select "Special Functions" (F2).

Select "Program Transmitters" (F0).

Select the number of transmitters to program (1-4)

Follow the on-screen instructions; press continue, wait for the locks to cycle, hold the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 15-30 seconds, the locks will cycle again.

Exit the vehicle. Attempt to lock/unlock the doors to verify the programming.

Perform the following steps if the above procedure does not program the transmitter.

Reconnect the Tech 2.

Enter service programming (F1).

Press the "REQUEST INFO" key.

Select "Reprogram Existing Module"

Exit the vehicle and remove the Tech 2.

Follow the existing procedure to reflash the body control module.

How do you change a rear blinker bulb on a 2004 Pontiac grand prix?

Pull the black plastic barrier away on the side you wish to relace. It is held on by a large plastic screw looking item & the cargo net holders (they will screw off). You will then see two or three plastic twist of devices. They generally are hand tightened. This will allow the whole tail light unit to separate from the body. Only the electrical wires are connected. This gives you access to the bulbs in the tail light. Not difficult - just a pain to do a simple bulb replacement. Good luck.

How do you reset the 'low tire pressure' warning light on a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix?

It is done with the radio controls. Read your owner's manual. My 97 has a yellow button under the dash to the right of the steering column. Press it immediately AFTER you have inflated your tires evenly. Don't know about radio control options.

Do you need to change the oil in the supercharger everytime you change the engine oil?

Normally, the supercharger will pull oil from the engines oil pan meaning that when you change the engine oil it also changes the oil in the S/C. However, the supercharger may have either its own reservoir or have an independent drain of its own.

Due to the high temperatures this part may incur, I recommend a change when you change the engine oil sense the part is so expensive to replace and it has such strain placed on it.
