There is no S12 listed in the Standard Catalog. Only 11 people in the world can own a Sousa Grade Ithaca double. If you have one and have lost the barrels you are out of luck. If it is a single barrel trap gun, the odds are not much better.

They were made from 1939 until 1962. There is a 3 digit code on the left side of the barrel just in front of the receiver. The first two letters indicate the date of manufacture. You need to look at a barrel code list and match them up.

yes there is a breech plug that Remington sell for a 209 primer

however there is one sold through cabelas for 40-50 bucks that is Canadian made and has alot less blow back then the Remington conversion while your weather shroud is on. cheaper solution but a musket cap nipple and shot those basically as fast as the 209 with out the blow back problems

If the damage is too great, you really should have it restored by an expert. Doug Turnbull comes to mind, and there's a place in Ohio that's very good but the name hass slipped my mind (or what passes for such these days). They are shootable and when compared to the originals, still affordable. As to current value, which seems at the moment to be climbing on a daily basis, I have seen the 1886 rifles priced from about $1,400.00 up to $1,900.00 based on the grade and condition with grade 1 on the lower end and high grade on the upper end. The commemorative models tend to bring 50% to 100% more even though most will not have the pleasure of shooting them and decreasing their collector value. While I personally prefer the Saddle Ring Carbine Grade 1, they are typically a few hundred dollars less than the rifles, I guess those "real men" out there who like 9 or 10 lb. rifles just have more money as the Saddle Ring Carbine weighs in at a mere 8 lbs. which is plenty for me to carry and enough to keep recoil where it is comfortable. If you are lucky enough to locate one as I was, I can only offer the following advice, try to find one that has not been altered in any way. You don't need a recoil pad on a 45-70, I have been shooting them since I was about 14 years old and I am on the tall thin side. Neither do you want to deface them with receiver sights or slings. These rifles were built in a different age and should stay true to their original design so, forget about fitting the rifle to you and learn how to fit you to the rifle when it comes to lever guns, otherwise, get yourself a current Marlin and leave the old style lever guns to us old guys who appreciate them, after all, they are hard enough to find in the first place so appreciate them for what they are if you do get your hands on one. first take off the two bolts on the top of the stock, the small bolt first then the larger one.

then pull the stock off by pulling straight back

remove the barrel by spinning the lock at the end of the magazine then spin the mag and then pull the mag towards the end of the barrel. then slide the pump towards the end of the barrel. then you can spin the barrel and then slide it off.

I can are refer to a magazine for the notorious Remington 597 in .17 cal,,,,, the answer is "they are junk"!!! The components are cheap, crudely made, ineffective, poorly engineered and otherwise "junk". They have been assembled by monkeys (they could not find a football).

Thank you, now that that is out of my system, most magazines function properly unless they are bent or damaged. Notice i said "most".. try another magazine or two to determine if it is the fault of the magazine or the rifle.

Try disassembling the magazine and polishing the edges of the parts so they slide better.... seems like you could spend a long time attempting a cure before you throw it away and simply buy another magazine.

117 grain .257 diameter is a good all around choice for reloading. Factory ammo probably ranges from 117 to 120 grs. for that particular weight range of 25-06 ammo. Pointed tip [spitser] and boat-tail base will shoot the flattest...Hornady, Speer, Sierra, Nosler, Remington, Winchester, Barnes, etc. all offer bullets for reloading in .257 caliber. My two favorites are Sierra and Hornady but other makes are well liked also...reloading manuals are an invaluable aid to reload safely and accurately...good luck... I like 75 and 87 grain bullets for varmints and 100, 115, 117, 120 boat tail spire point for deer.
