Replace the engine coolant temperature sensor. Your car has two, replace the one with the 2 wire connector

bearing on crankshaft worn or damaged, caused by lack of oil. start engine if it will and pull plug wires off one at a time and you'll find out wich one. do not rev up engine too high. do not sell car to a friend. motor has to come out and extensive repair on lower end required. if you do not know what a rod bearing knock is then it is not a do it yourself fix. major repair.

Some times you can just jiggle the steering wheel back and forth as your try the ingition.

The problem is common with LS2 Saturn steering locks; the steering lock must be engaged for this to work. If it isn't, use the above method to get it to lock.Once the steering lock is engaged you turn the steering wheel hard to the right as you turn the key in the ignition. This will usually free the switch up.

Saturn keys are made of a very soft material and wear down significantly over time. USE CAUTION NOT TO USE SO MUCH FORCE ON THE KEY or it could snap off in the ignition. The brute strength should be applied to the steering wheel, not the key!

That's the standard fuel delivery system these days, Its nothing special.

If you follow the hoses from the compressor, one will lead to the dryer. One side of the dryer connects to the condenser, so look around it and the radiator.

On my '99 SL2, it sits beneath the battery on the driver's side of the engine compartment. Hope this helps a little.

The Voltage regulator in incorporated in the alternator. It must be replaced as a whole.

Overview

This manual covers the removal and installation of the factory radio into the 2004 Saturn VUE.

This task requires minimal ability to complete and can be undertaken by any dealership technician. Being an employee of the dealership, familiarity with general mechanical skills is presumed.

WARNING: BEFORE BEGINNING THE REMOVAL OF THE FACTORY RADIO UNIT, DISCONNECT THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE�S ELECTRONIC AND/OR COMPUTER SYSTEMS.

Required Tools

The following hand tools will be required to perform this task:

� #2 Phillips screwdriver

� 7mm nut driver

Setup

Park on a flat surface and set the vehicle parking brake.

Turn the ignition key to the ON position but DO NOT START THE VEHICLE.

Record the customer�s current radio station selections for programming into new radio unit.

On an automatic transmission equipped vehicle, depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to the �L� (or Low) position.

On manual transmission equipped vehicles, depress the clutch and move the shift in 4th gear.

Trim Removal

During this procedure, use firm but straight forces when removing and installing the plastic shift and dash trim pieces. Pulling upward at an angle could case damage to them.

Lift up the lower left corner of shift trim piece until it unsnaps from the shift console.

Slide the trim piece back so that it hangs between the seats.

NOTE: THERE ARE SEVERAL ELECTRICAL ATTACHMENTS TO THIS TRIM PIECE SO IT WILL NOT SEPARATE TOO FAR FROM THE CONSOLE SO DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FORCE SEPARATION.

Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, remove the four screws holding in the plastic �cubby� and set the �cubby� aside. If vehicle is equipped with factory installed Comfort Package heated seat switch panel, remove the four screws and let the switch assembly hang down into the console.

Lift the dash trim piece until the assembly snaps off the dashboard by lifting the bottom.

This will expose the stock factory radio unit.

NOTE: THIS ASSEMBLY HAS MANY ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL CONNECTORS ATTACHED TO IT AND IT WILL NOT SEPARATE TOO FAR FROM THE DASHBOARD, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FORCE SEPARATION.

Radio Removal

Using the 7mm nut driver, loosen and remove the two hex head screws (one on the left and one on the right of the radio unit) holding the factory radio unit into the dashboard.

Slide the factory radio unit out of the dashboard by lifting on the face plate and pulling the radio unit toward the rear of the vehicle. The unit will slide out of dashboard with little resistance.

Once the radio unit has cleared the dashboard, unplug the antenna connector from the rear of the radio unit.

After the antenna has been unplugged, the radio unit will slide a little further from the dashboard and you will have access to the large factory wiring connector located on the rear of the factory radio unit. Unplug this connector from the back of the factory radio unit.

Radio Installation

Remove the replacement radio unit from the packing material.

Place the replacement radio unit into the stock radio unit�s dashboard opening.

Reconnect the factory wiring connector and antenna connector to the rear of the replacement radio unit.

Slide the replacement radio unit completely into the stock dashboard location. The radio unit will align into the opening on the right and left alignment studs.

Using the 7mm nut driver, reinstall the two hex head screws to secure the radio unit into the dashboard.

Trim Installation

Place the top edge to the dash trim assembly into the alignment slots at the top of the dash board.

Using even pressure and straight downward force, press on the dash trim assembly until it snaps into place.

Place the top edge to the shift trim piece into the alignment slots under the dash trim piece.

Using even pressure and straight downward force, press on the shift trim assembly until it snaps into place in the shift console.

NOTE: MAKE SURE THAT ALL ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL CONNECTORS ARE STILL ATTACHED TO THE DASH AND SHIFT TRIM ASSEMBLY. IF ANY CONNECTOR HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED, REATTACH THE CONNECTOR TO THE CORRESPONDING TRIM ASSEMBLY BEFORE CONTINUING.

Wrap Up

On an automatic transmission equipped vehicle, depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to the �P� (or Park) position.

On manual transmission equipped vehicles, depress the clutch and move the shift to neutral.

Turn the key to the OFF position.

Reconnect the positive battery cable.

Test the new radio unit and reprogram customer�s radio station selections.

Answer for all..Yes.

PCM is located on the driver side, under the dash. You have to remove the dashboard that is held down by 2 screws, located in the middle, and clips.

You just use RTV sealer Make sure the block and cover are cleaned properly and appl a bead of sealeraround the cover Make sure you go around the inside of the bolt holes in the cover

there generally isn't one on that model Saturn i have one and am having to buy one aftermarket

On the only Saturn i have drove. you sometimes have to turn the steering wheel while turning on the sw.. then you turn the sw as far as it will go release it and wait a few seconds until the safety goes off. then turn it and start. Also you may have to remove the key once in a while and put it back in to make it turn. Been there.

The starter is located in the rear of the engine block. The starter is Held in by Two 13mm bolts, one you can see from underneith while your laying on the ground, the other is only available by feeling around the mounting surface towards the top of the starter assembly. the wireing is held on by a 13mm nut for the battery/alternator connection, and a 9mm or 10mm nut for the purple ignition wire.

The "ticking" sound that is most common among Saturn's is caused by a slightly expanded gap in the valve spacing. It could, of course, be something else, but that seems most common.

If that's what's going on, it probably isn't worth much effort to repair. Valve clatter isn't typically a problem unless it gets severe.

An engine is typically classified as an "interference engine" if the fully open valves occupy the same space that the piston occupies at the top of it's stroke. When the camshaft is in proper timing with the crankshaft, valves close before the piston can come in contact.

This is important to understand when an engine timing is performed with a timing belt. Timing belt failure is common after a specific number of miles have been traveled, and as such, it is essential that vehicles receive the scheduled maintenance, especially the replacement of timing belts when appropriate.

However, the 4 cylinder Saturn engines did not use a timing belt to synchronize the camshaft with the crankshaft, instead, Saturn engineers used a timing chain which typically lasts until the engine has worn to the point of needing significant repair.

Short answer, "yes". All Saturn 4 cylinder engines are classified as interference engines, as are most modern engines.

if its FWD then the starter is under the intake manifold and fuel rail at the bottom of the motor in the back by the firewall

Quite simple. First does the fan engage when the car is hot? Second take a voltage meter and put it on volts. Now ground the black wire from the fan to the black multi meter lead and and the red meter lead touch the positive wire. If the fan engages the motor is not bad. Then the temp sensor would be bad. An easier way to check is to simply buy (if you dont have one) a power probe that connects to the battery and then touch the positive wire of the fan motor and see what happens

The service engine light can come on for many different reasons if you take it to a dealer/mechanic they can pull a code to let you know what part of the system is failing it could be something simple or something major there is a way to jump a wire but I am not sure which ones to cross in the diagnostic connector. what do you mean by "back up" if you mean your reverse light, they come on automatically when you put it into reverse, if they dont turn on then there is a problem somewhere whether its dead bulbs or a short. If you mean your safety/driving lights it depends, if its a 91-97 SC1/2 then you just turn the headlight knob on the left side of the wheel to the first or second position the third turn on the headlights. If i misunderstood the use of "back up light switch" please let me know as to give you a correct answer.

Check the battery cables. Especially the neg cable all the way down under to the starter and ground.

If your engine vibrates at low rpm but seems smooth at higher RPM, then you may have a worn engine mount. The mounts have large chunks of rubber in them that absorb the vibrations. Apparently, they wear out fairly quickly, in about 5 years or so, is what I was told. It is apparently a common problem. If it is anything like my 93 Saturn, it is the upper engine mount, and it is relatively easy to replace. Ask a Saturn dealer for a quote, or if you are mechanically inclined, you can buy the mount and install yourself, working from a Haynes manual. A place to check for advice is Automotiveforums.com. Lots of helpful information and answers to lots of questions.

Vehicle has been poorly serviced and maintained. Brakes should be inspected every service.
