A group of best friends are sitting at a round table in a restaurant. They're discussing a hot topic. One of the friends is sitting in the corner not talking. Most people would say this friend is timid, inhibited, and/or passive.

They would label this friend, "shy."

However, couldn't this friend be someone who is tired of talking when no one is listening?

Couldn't this friend be someone who has no need to prove their knowledge of the subject matter?

Couldn't this friend be sympathetic enough not to insult the intelligence of others?

Listen

People don't listen. It's rare for one to speak before another breaks through one's sentence with a rebuttal. If, by chance, one gets a complete thought out, others hear the words but only absorb parts that suit them.

Shy people hate to talk in vain. They would rather use the time and energy for constructive things and constructive people.

Learn

People talk a lot so everyone thinks they're intelligent. For them, it's never enough to know they are intelligent. They must prove it.

Shy people are content knowing they are intelligent, and have no need to prove their intelligence. They wonder if other's mouths get tired of babbling on about things. Their ears get tired of listening to the babble.

Understand

Ever hear of the phrase, "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all?" This is the motto of all shy people.

They would rather be silent instead of using demure insults or obscene language to get their point across.

Conclusion

So, you see, shy people have been misunderstood for decades. The next time a shy person is quiet, ask them, "What are you really thinking?" They may answer truthfully. They may answer with "nothing," in keeping with their motto. After this revelation, don't you wish you were shy?

((information taken from http://goinside.com/99/10/shy.html))

It is quite hard to explain why people are shy, there is no real way to explain. It is also part of being human, I am shy but I dont let it bother me too much.

Why are some people dirty?

There are lots of different reasons that people can be dirty. They could have a job where they have to work in a sewer or with human or animal waste. And then there are those gross people who just don't care about hygiene or the fact that they smell awful and refuse to bathe, wear clean clothes, or try to smell nice.

Its mostly about just saying what you like, what college you went to, and things like that! :D

Why does your mate want to see other people?

Honestly, that is just a whimpy way to break up with you. If seeing other people is not on your itinerary, tell them. Then make a decision. If you're okay with it, fine. That means you can see other people as well. It also means, they think they can call you up and see you when it's convenient. If it were me, I'd say fine, and never talk to them again. Find someone else, it's worth it. anyway they probably get bored going out with the same person shaggin them all the time!

How do you improve self motivation?

Here are some ways to motivate yourself to do things:

  • Give yourself a little reward. Make up something small -- like for every X minutes you do something you don't like, you'll do something else you do like for X minutes; or every time you do one chore, you get a star or X points, and when you have a total of Y points or stars, you can buy something you want, or go out and do something special.
  • Set a time limit. Do whatever it is for 15-20 minutes, then take a rest break. If you're trying to motivate yourself to do chores or work that is always piling up, like housework or laundry, tell yourself you're just going to do 15-20 minutes. Often, just getting started is enough that you'll end up finishing the chore -- getting started is the tough part.
  • Schedule it. Pretend the chore is a job -- put down a time to do the work every day, write it on your calendar, and pretend you're going to work! This way, you're more likely to take it seriously.
  • Praise yourself. Motivation is a problem for everybody. Whenever you get something finished -- or even if you just get started on it! -- pat yourself on the back and step back to look at what you've done. It feels good to see how far you've come, or how much of the job you've done. Don't think "Look how far I still have to go" -- think "Wow, I've already finished that much!"

First of all we need to understand that to err is human. We all make mistakes. We all take bad decisions. But its not the end of the world!! In fact its the start. What affect does advertising have on children?

Advertising and media does have an effect on children since many companies spend millions of dollars convincing kids that their product is the best and coolest thing out there, but what also lies in the way is the fact that it can also affects how kids look at themselves and can affect self esteem and image as well.

the above is a general idea and does not effect all children in the same way, depending on a child's primary and secondary socialisation and indeed the environment they have been bought up in will also effect how effect an advert is on a child; children from countries where advertising is shown to children are less likely to grow in to adults who believe entirely in an advert and therefore creates a much more consumer savvy market when said child reaches an age where they have a disposable income of there own.

it has good and bad effects.

The above post was excellent. I would like to add two things in life that can cause depression in women. Shortly after having a baby and it's called 'postpartum blue' and treatable by her doctor, or if she should be going into peri menopause or menopause. Peri menopause is a change of hormones and can start as young as 35 years old (many cases of this) and she may have skipped periods, feeling lethargic, depressed, moody, angry one minute and happy the next. Menopause means a woman ceases to have her periods and can have hot/cold flashes, moodiness, depression, anger outbursts, can't make up her mind; sad one moment and practically bouncing off the walls with happiness in the next moment. Take your wife for a complete physical and get the doctor to give her a T3/T4 blood test for thyroid. Also have the doctor check her hormone levels (although these tests aren't always accurate) and if she has any missed periods to no periods she should tell the doctor this as well. Women get depressed going through postpartum blues, peri menopause or menopause and this has nothing to do with the regular mental ailments others have. Don't jump to conclusions and let the doctor diagnose. Go with your wife and be supportive. I gave my husband information on my menopause which he read and I was thankful he did and we worked through it together.

What are the signs of a low self-esteem?

"What are signs of a poor self image?" Causes of a poor self image How we think about ourselves, our self image, is largely determined by what others have said. The parents play a big role in this, but so do other kids. Remember that when you're young, you're wide open to suggestion (mind programming). I'm trying to show you that when you start young enough or gullible enough, you can be made to believe anything. Including that you're stupid, ugly, incompetent, unloveable, incorrigible, etc. And that program tends to stick, especially if you were in an emotional state. Now that you're older, you want to get rid of such "programs" which affect you at a subconscious level, often for the rest of your life to some extent. It is highly unlikely your poor self-image came from a single event. Usually many. author: Loren Parks, Psychological Research Foundation, Inc.

From personal experience, I've found that wearing a uniform allows you to go to school with confidence in knowing that you can't be ostracized because of your clothing, which improves your confidence and self esteem. Why do some wives wants to know all the details of their husbands affair?

ANSWER:

It depends on individual whether or not she want to know what happen and how. It's not unusual but its normal for a wife to know what he did with her after all this woman took her place and her husband help. There are some wives that will not stop until she knows what and how the husband treated the other woman, and this includes me. And there are some they rather not know about it especially if they will work on their marriage. Why, it will destroy what ever they can fix. So just remember it is noy unusual for you to ask your husband all the details of his affair, after all you are the wife and it is you who got hurt. But one thing you need to do and remember, do not beg to your husband, just in case he told you that his tired of you nagging about what he shared with his mistress. Let time heal your heart, it might take a while or even for a long time, but it will be lesser.
