What are the advantages of null hypothesis significance testing?
The add vantage of the null hypothesis testing is when used to determine errors in tolerances the null hypothesis will always land you on the side of safety. This is often used when the importance of quantity or quality is extremely important. The case of filling medicine in to a capsule would require a very close tolerance, the null hypothesise could set an undefined error, however this is much safer than a wide tolerance which could result in a dangerous outcome.
The reason the standard deviation of a distribution of means is smaller than the standard deviation of the population from which it was derived is actually quite logical. Keep in mind that standard deviation is the square root of variance. Variance is quite simply an expression of the variation among values in the population. Each of the means within the distribution of means is comprised of a sample of values taken randomly from the population. While it is possible for a random sample of multiple values to have come from one extreme or the other of the population distribution, it is unlikely. Generally, each sample will consist of some values on the lower end of the distribution, some from the higher end, and most from near the middle. In most cases, the values (both extremes and middle values) within each sample will balance out and average out to somewhere toward the middle of the population distribution. So the mean of each sample is likely to be close to the mean of the population and unlikely to be extreme in either direction. Because the majority of the means in a distribution of means will fall closer to the population mean than many of the individual values in the population, there is less variation among the distribution of means than among individual values in the population from which it was derived. Because there is less variation, the variance is lower, and thus, the square root of the variance - the standard deviation of the distribution of means - is less than the standard deviation of the population from which it was derived.
The reason the ping pong ball stays in the funnel when you blow in it is because of Bernoulli's Principle. This principle states that as the speed of a moving fluid (liquid or gas) increases, the pressure within the fluid decreases. When you blow in the funnel at a high speed, the pressure around the ball decreases. Then, the pressure from the outside of the funnel (because there is air pressure everywhere) pushes down on the ball at a lower speed, which would mean higher pressure, which causes the ball to stay inside the funnel. Mind you that the bernoulli's principle is based in the wind tunnel or venturri tube and the funnel is an example of a venturri tube, so that would further explain it.

When light (or more specifically, packets of light called photons) from an astronomical object passes through the Earth's atmosphere, it scatters off of particles in the latter. It turns out that these particles like to scatter blue light more than they do red light; so "bluer" photons (those with shorter wavelengths) tend to get scattered, and "redder" photons (those with longer wavelengths) pass through. So, astronomical objects look redder from Earth than they would from space, because the redder wavelengths from the objects penetrate the atmosphere better than the bluer ones. Incidentally, this is why the sky is blue: blue light from the Sun is scattered in all directions on its way to the Earth.
But how does this explain the occasional redness of the Moon or the Sun? Your son may have noticed that they always occur when the Sun or Moon is close to the horizon. If you think about it, sunlight or moonlight must travel through the maximum amount of atmosphere to get to your eyes when the Sun or Moon is on the horizon (remember that that atmosphere is a sphere around the Earth). So, you expect *more* blue light to be scattered from Sunlight or Moonlight when the Sun or Moon is on the horizon than when it is, say, overhead; this makes the object look redder. In other words, the Sun or Moon tends to look orange or red when it is rising or setting because that's the time when the light has to travel through the most atmosphere to get to you. The effect is exacerbated when there are thin clouds in front or behind the Sun or Moon: the clouds themselves often glow bright pink as well, because they are so good at scattering blue light.

Convection refers to the transfer of heat energy by the motion of a fluid such as air or water caused by differences in temperature within the fluid. Therefore convection happens wherever there is a fluid with a temperature gradient. This means that convection is happening continuously in the air around us and in bodies of water.
A car heater and a convection oven are also considered to transfer heat by convection, but this is using the term liberally since the movement of the fluid (air) in these two cases is caused by a fan, not temperature gradient. So, while not perhaps being absolutely accurate examples of convection, still the heat is transferred through fluid motion.
