What to do if all hope is gone?
First you need to find yourself, You are actually more than the role you are playing in this life. When you loose hope, the thing to do is first slow you mind down, because you are overwhelmed with thoughts, and now you can't see clearly.
Take an antique piece of furniture that has been painted over several times, it will be hard to find its original beauty. The same goes for you, your thoughts and beliefs have painted your true identity over and over, until you have lost all contact with the real you.
The only difference between the you "know", and the "you who you would like to become" are the thoughts and beliefs you have come to accept. Actually the only difference between you and anybody walking this planet at this very moment, are your thoughts and beliefs.
Change them, and your life will change.

How do social workers deal with ethical dilemmas?
Social workers have very strong boundaries. They do not let themselves get too attached to a case, but at the same time, they seek justice for the innocent.
It is very important for social workers to entirely understand the problems of the service users in order to give them the greatest opportunity to overcome the problems effectively. The consequences of not understanding the problems are that social workers will be left to react and intervene in an unplanned and unsystematic way. This could further result in the social workers devising the wrong care plan and making the situation worse for the service user instead of improving it for them. Looking back at the National Occupational Standards of Social Workers not assessing the needs of the service users effectively is going against the standards set. So in order to meet the standards set the method in which the problem should be overcome is through understanding each problem on a basic level. "If we are to maintain the integrity of community care, social services and social work, we have to confront the constant tendency that we all have to regress to the individualization of peoples problems". (Smale and Tuson, 1993 p.30) What the quotation is backing is that to make sure peoples problems are overcome social workers need to make sure that they successfully complete a social work assessment. The social work assessment will then help the social worker to individually understand the circumstances of the case on an individual level taking everything into consideration and put together a care plan that meets their needs and will help to overcome the problems.
Can you get a good job in social work with only a bachelor's degree in social work?
You can get a good entry level job. The BSW is still the preferred degree in the the human services because the degree is accredited and the education is well understood. It is also very practical and has a defined internship. Now as with most professional fields the MA is becoming increasingly desired and required. So with a BSW you can get an entry level position - but in general you will want to go back for an MSW if you wish to advance in your career. Now with a BSW you can usually apply for advanced standing to most MSW programs and do your degree in one year rather than two.

How do you get your social worker to place you with a specific family?
I know it's difficult for you being in the midst of all this confusion, but please understand that you just "can't go live with someone" because YOU want too. There is a great deal of responsibility looking after children and also it's an expense. If the family wants to take you in, then they have to apply to Child Welfare or the person handling your case. I suggest you speak to this "special family" and make sure it's OK with them. If so, they must apply to try and adopt you or at least be your foster parents. Good luck Marcy Marcy
How old are you? We adopted an older child and we know how hard it is to get anything done. If you need help please let me know. Post a question and direct it to GAIL.

How much does a social worker earn in the UK?
Hi,
I can only answer for Scotland's workers. Newly Qualified workers can start on approx. £24,000 p.a., but this really depends on whether the employer / organisation is statutory (e.g. local authority) / voluntary / private, and who the local authority is. Some councils will pay more than others. Workers that have more experience usually around two years post qualifying, will expect to earn between £29,000 - £32,000 p.a. The opportunity for wage rises is under question at the moment due to political .strategies and governmental aims to save money in certain areas - one being the statutory sector, health and social care in particular.
Hope this helps.
