Where can a same-sex couple marry in the state of Louisiana?

Legally, nowhere in Louisiana can you get a gay marriage. You would have to go out of state, but even then it would not be recognized in Louisiana. You could get married to a man anywhere in Louisiana, but I doubt that's what you're looking for.

As a side, you would have to write a will if you wanted to have your partner have control over things in case of death or incapacitation, such as hospital visitation rights, control of remains, etc.

What is ceded reinsured auto insurance?

The insurance definition of "ceded": An insurance company may not wish to insure a risk (client or business) directly, and therefore transfers the responsibility (partially or completely) to another insurance company or group of companies (known as reinsurers) that have a higher tolerance for such risks. Ceded auto insurance is the only option for "high risk" drivers who wish to obtain insurance, because standard insurers do not want to insure drivers with poor driving records (speeding, accidents, DUI, etc.) or who have allowed their insurance to lapse due to non-payment. Ceded auto insurance fulfills an important role in insurance markets because insurance is required to operate a vehicle. Standard insurance companies have higher underwriting (risk screening) standards, and therefore are expected to pay fewer claims and to perform well from a financial perspective. Reinsurers, because they underwrite unusual and often high risk insurance contracts are not held to the same loss expectations, altough they are typically very strong financially. In all cases, the business of insurance is to make money, but the business models and methods are somewhat different in each case.

What woman helped develop the material of a bullet-proof vest are made?

Body armour is as old as warfare. We will never know who (or what group of people) originally strapped on something for protection. Bullet proof vests are the most recent incarnation of body armour. Sometime in the 1800s both the Japanese and the Chinese developed rudimentary bullet proof vests made of 30 layers of silk. The garment was good enough to stop a blackpowder shot. As guns became more sophisticated, the layers of silk became useless.

The modern bullet proof vest was developed by 2 Polish Americans, Casimir Zeglen and Jan Szczepani. They developed a way of weaving steel plates between layers of silk. Their vests could stop a .44 cal bullet but were very hot and heavy to wear.

Interesting little note on the steel and silk vest. Archduke Franz Ferdinand was wearing one on his ill-fated trip to Sarajavo in 1914. Zeglen was able to convince the Archduke to wear one but alas, the Archduke was shot in the neck, not the chest. If Gavrilo Princip had aimed lower and hit the Archduke in the chest, history may well have turned out differently.

How heavy is a standard military bullet-proof vest?

Hi,

I believe and have researched that the mark1 helmet (used in WW1) weighed 0.54 kilograms(1.2 pounds). This mark 1 helmet was dubbed the Brodie Helmet, It was deigned and patented by Briton John L. Brodie. Originally the helmets before it were manufactured from cloth and could not stand modern weapons. After a while the British war office realised the dire need for a new type of helmet.

I hope this helped you and you learned a bit more information regarding body armour and weapons.

When your Emergency Unemployment Compensation run out are there more extensions until President Obama signs a new bill to extend EUC benefits?

One opinion:What good is the $25 weekly increase if it only lasts 5-6 more weeks? Many, many, many people thought it would (extend) the actual number of weeks to collect a check, but our President only signed a bill to (extend) the filing date for which one must file for the EUC Tier 1 and 2 levels before December 31, 2009. In his comments about the unemployment, it was mis-communicated by the media, stating that an actual extension will be passed, when it just was a date passed. Go figure, Vote Dem for the first time and get screwed.

Why are laws different from state to state?

The colonial legal systems in many states began to evolve long before there was a United States and still affect modern laws in many cases. For example, the legal rights of women varied in different regions in the colonies as did their rights of inheritance. The Puritans affected the legal codes in New England and interjected a religious element to law codes. The Southern colonies were populated by younger sons of the English aristocracy and in some areas followed English law more closely. The various state codes evolved from people with different backgrounds, different philosophies, different ideas, different perspectives and different goals. Some states were influenced by Spanish law and a major feature was the adoption of the principle ofcommunity property. The early laws of Louisiana are based on Napoleonic law which was based on Roman law.

What year was the bulletproof vest invented?

Although individuals have been creating and utilizing makeshift means to protect themselves from bullets for some time beforehand, Casimir Zeglen of Chicago Illinois is credited with producing the first commercial bullet proof vest available to the public starting in the late 1800s. Zeglen's vests were made of silk fabric based on the findings of Dr. George Goodfellow of Arizona. Dr. Goodfellow observed that the silk cloth of a handkerchief slowed bullet velocities and penetration capabilities when inspecting bodies after a gunfight. The Zeglen vests retailed at around $800 US dollars at the time, the equivalent to about $15,000 US dollars in 2005.
