The starter solenoid to my knowledge is part of the starter. Follow the (+) battery cable to the starter. Adjacent you will find a smaller aprox 16 gauge wire with a connector. That's the solenoid. Likely starter problems on the pre-05 Subies are the "Contactor set" located inside the top cap of the solenoid. Cost about $3.00

Where is the fuel pump located on a 2000 Subaru Outback?
It's in the fuel tank, which is located under the rear passenger seat on the passenger side. Start by reaching between the seat bench and the seat back for the black nylon pull loop. Make sure both front seats are moved all the way forward. Lift the bench straight up to a 90 degree angle. On the passenger side is the pump. Remove the gas hoses with pliers, be careful if you break a plastic pump connection, it's one solid piece to replace and costs $350 brand new (did this so I should know). Once you remove the hoses, remove all the bolts. Lift the item straight up and be careful don't break the float. The pump is a 2"X4" cylinder, pretty small. Really easy to replace once you figure this all out.

A good sign of a water pump going bad is noise. It usually makes a grinding sound. Another sign is antifreeze leakage around the water pump. These should be checked every oil change and depending on where and how you drive they should be replaced about every other to every third oil change or else bad gas mileage and poor engine performace will occur.
The cabin air filter removes dust and pollen from the air entering the interior of the car through the heating and air conditioning system when the control is set to "fresh air" or "outside air". This is less critical but will eventually be clogged and will need changing.
Also normally they are different styles of air filter so a different type for each one, your owners manual should tell you the types.

Sounds like a faulty/sticking thermostat to me. Had same problem with a 99.Fixed it by adding coolant slowly into the small bleeder screw hole ontop of the radiator.Run engine with heater opened to hot.Fill while running, then shut off engine.Repeat as many times as needed till no coolant can be added.Bleed screw till coolant steams out (no air).Any air in system can cause overheating .Very important front of car must be raised 18".You can also add any of the new Super weting agents that keep temperature 20 degrees cooler.Mechanics told me it was a head gasket and gave up.Car running fine one year later.Good luck

Sounds like a cv shaft that is bad, the joint in particular. If you look under the car, going to both front wheels there will be a shaft going from the transmission to the wheels. At each end of the shaft will be boots, you probably have one that opened up some time ago.
