Your car shakes at higher speeds what could it be if you have a slight shake driving at 6065 when you accelerate it shakes vigorously to 70-75 but at lower speed its smooth It has new tires?

I had this problem also where my car would shake between 55-75. It ran smoothly at 80 (don't tell the CHP). Everyone I asked said tires, so I had the tires balanced and realigned, but that didn't fix it. Most of the mechanics I asked were stumped. Finally someone recommended having the struts looked at and sure enough, I had the struts replaced (the car had 70,000 miles on it) and it worked. I have never had this problem since (now the car has 150,000). I have sold tires for a number of years and I can assure you sometimes new tires can be out-of-round. Take it back and demand that this problem be resolved. Mark

95 Toy Avalon this morning when I started the car the heater and fan the stereo and the time and temp were not working I checked the fuses they seemed fine?

Don't know if this will help but I blew a fuse when something jammed my cigarette lighter. I checked the fuse and it looked okay and went round and round trying to figure out the problem with my gearshift. Turns out the fuse was bad - I bought new fuses and replaced the one controlling my gearshift anyway and problem solved! And this despite that the fuse looked perfectly fine. Good luck!

How do you replace the cabin filter in a 2000 Toyota Avalon?

My 2000 Avalon did not have a filter installed when I purchased it but don't worry, it is configured for a cabin filter to be installed. The procedure to install a cabin filter is no different than for the newer models. The instructions come with the cabin filter itself (Toyota part # 88880-41010).

Installation Procedure:

1) Remove undercover. 2) Pop off the airbag harness cover with a screwdriver. 3) Pass the airbag harness cover through the opening. 4) Remove 3 screws and 2 bolts holding the glove box. 5) Remove trunk opener switch connector (if applicable) and remove the glove box. 6) Remove the filter tray and replace the filter (hold the left and right knobs at both ends of the filter case at the same time and pull out the knob to the front). 7) The filter must be assembled with the "UP" mark on the filter facing the same direction as the same mark on the filter case.

Right answer: do not mess with the airbag(dangerous!!) or yellow /white cables. open the glove box and let it fully open by squeezing the tabs that hold it up and any cables. you will see a slot that the filter goes in, usually has tabs that keep it shut. open the cover and remove the filter. this particular model may have to remove the sorrounding cover, just remove 4 or 5 screws that hold the sorrounding glove box assembly and reassemble.

What is the cost to change a timing belt on a 1999 Toyota Avalon?

A new timing belt costs about the same for all small cars -- $300 or thereabouts at a small shop and around $600 at a dealer. The cost includes the belt cost, which is $50 to $100 depending on brand. Make sure that wherever you go, you save receipt, get a guarantee, and make sure they use a good-quality belt. You might even get the belt only first at a dealer just to make sure of the quality. I'm not sure if you have interference engine, but if you do and the timing belt breaks, you will be replacing the engine. Use a reputable shop no matter where you go. If the belt is off by even one tooth, it won't run right.

Toyota Avalon rear speaker not working?

I assume you're referring to the subwoofer mounted right above the center brake light, right? I've had this exact same problem -- I thought I could get a replacement speaker without any problem. Not true -- there's something about the JBL audio system that makes it impossible to find a replacement speaker (except for going to Toyota Parts and buying one for $260!). The best way to fix this is to remove the subwoofer (a fairly easy job) and send it to the people at simplyspeakers.com. They will repair the speaker for about $50 -- and they do it very quickly. (Repair involves reconing and refoaming the speaker -- nothing I'd recommend for someone to do themselves). This solved my problem.

While I appreciate that the word "easy" is a subjective term for the author above, for me there was nothing easy about getting this speaker out of the car so let me offer some advise. I'm sure this will make it easier for you.

The "cover plate" needs to be removed from within the car. Since you don't want to snap anything or leave scrape marks behind, I removed it using a plastic spatula.

Turn the spatula upside down.

Wiggle it underneath either of the front corners, gently lift and it will pop up

Do the same for the next corner.

Note that the back of this cover plate is also the "eye level" brake light.

Be careful - There is a brake light cable attached to the back which I found difficult to remove so I chose not to.

I just moved the whole cover to one side.

There are four gold bolts you will need to remove with a ratchet.

Do so - don't lose them.

You'll need a real ratchet not the "magic" ratchet that will slip over any bolt to remove.

There's just no room to use it.

As I noticed the design of how the car was assembled, it appears the speaker was installed first, then the nice covering to the back "window sill" and then they installed the back windshield. This makes it impossible to remove the speaker without a little "etching" on your part.

Pull out a razor knife with a VERY sharp blade.

DON'T TRY THIS IS IT'S NOT SHARP.

I noticed that the speaker cover left an indent into the window sill that I used for a guide for my knife cut.

You will be cutting into a thin piece of plywood but its going to take strength, patience and coordination to stay within the indentation.

Place your knife with blade side towards you down against the upper LEFT hand side of the cutout.

Now bring the knife towards you cutting away everything just to the RIGHT of the indented line.

Bring that knife towards you until you make it to the lower left hand corner close to you.

I didn't use a up-and-down hacking motion - I just inserted t the blade and pulled it towards me.

This goes without saying but BE VERY CAREFUL as you are directing a sharp razor to cut in the direction of your chest.

Once you cut this strip away AND the bolts are removed you will find this easy to remove.

From the back seat, you can open up the compartment entering the trunk, slip your hand in and up.

Push the speaker up at an angle towards the cut you just made and out it starts to go.

HOWEVER -

In the LOWER RIGHT, you'll notice the white speaker wire connector that need to be uncoupled.

I used a pair of pliers

On YOUR side of the coupling, there is a (for lack of a better term) an "arm" attached to the coupling that needs to be depressed to release it.

Squeeze, pull back and out it goes.

Pull out the speaker.

I hope this helps in your "surgery"!!!
