There is an ECT button on the Tacoma is it the same as on the Camry?

AnswerYes, the ECT stands for Electronically Controlled Transmission. In the Normal mode you get better efficency and greater mileage. In the Power Mode the transmission shift points are change to allow for more power, at the expense of mileage.

According to my Tacoma 2003 Owners Manual, the function of the "ECT PWR" switch / button is located in chapter 'Operations of Instruments and Controls' under the Automatic Transmission section and is quoted as follows:

"(i) Driving in "POWER" mode (four-wheel drive models and Pre Runner)

In the "POWER" mode, the transmission is shifted up and down at a higher vehicle speed than in the " NORMAL" mode and a more powerful acceleration is achieved. To set the "POWER" mode, push in the driving patter selector button. The POWER mode indicator light comes on.

For ordinary driving, Toyota recommends using the "NORMAL" mode to improve fuel economy."

It would appear that the power mode would be used when towing something or on a difficult incline.

When should you change the timing belt on a 2006 Toyota Avalon XL?

The service book recommends changing the timing belt (and I would recomment also changing the water pump along with it, as it will save you time and money) every 90 k miles, or roughly 144 000 km, or 72 months.

I personally exchange them every 150 000 km, on both my 2006 Toyota Avalon XLS and on Lexus ES 330.

Where are the oxygen sensors on a Toyota Avalon?

O2 sensorsThere are actually (4) four oxygen sensors. One in front (closest to radiator) exhaust pipe, one in rear (closest to firewall) exhaust pipe, one at the cataylitic converter and one at the resonator. I have had direct experience with the two in the engine compartment but have not had the pleasure of working on the other two. I can say that it is much cheaper to buy a good quality part like Boosch (about $50) to replace the OEM part although the OEM or Toyota part is easier to install. The aftermarket parts are good quality but the wiring can be a little tricky. Also, make sure your diagnosis is acurate. You want to make sure you replace only the faulty one. I had my wifes Avalon diagnosed at a Toyota dealer for free and was told that it was sensor bank number 2, which is the one near the firewall. You can disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery for a minute or two then reconnect and drive your vehicle. This will sometimes fix "soft" code problems. If the Check Engine light comes back on after a period then it is a "hard" code and further diagnosis is in order. You can also remove the suspected bad sensor and clean it with compressed air and a soft brass bristle wire brush to remove accumulated carbon and deposits. I also recommend a good "anti-seize" compound on the threads when reinstalling your sensors so they will be more easily removed next time. I am not a professional mechanic but I do have over 30 years of experience maintaining my personal vehicles and although my advice is good, my recommendation is to take it to a qualified shop for diagnosis and repair..

Where do you find the cooling fan relay on a 1999 dodge caravan?

In the Caravan i am working on, made on the 3rd month of 99, I had to remove the LH headlamp to get to the relay, after removing the headlamp, there its a black plastic cover, just pull that out of the way and will get to the relay.

my Caravan its a 2.4, i do not know if that has anything to do with the location of the relay.

Also what i will do its, place it where all the other Caravans have it.

good thing its that there are the holes for the screws already..

I have a 99 Grand Caravan 3.3L, hopefully the cooling fan motor relay is in the same place. You have to jack up the van. If you lay on your back looking up at the radiator drain plug, it is to the left on and bulkhead at about 11 o'clock. It has two 8mm bolts that hold it to the wall. The relay itself is about 2" square. Take the retaining bolts out and let it hang by the electrical wiring. The electrical connector has a red piece to it, push it to the opposite side and then push down on the black lever on the connector and pull to get it apart. The relay cost about $70.00. I have a maintenance manual for the van (which didn't show where it is) but it said meter it out and you should have continuity, but it doesn't say what the acceptable ohm range is. I metered out the first two contacts and it was 1024 ohm, the new one was about 1 meg. The relay is hard to get out, to quote the dealer "just replace it. If it was the temperature sensor, you should have a check engine light all the time."

Does 2000 Toyota Avalon have egr valve because the check engine light reads p0171 bank 1 system too lean and p0300 random misfire?

A lot of advices point to the EGR valve.

According to my mechanic, only the California model has EGR valve.

I have changed spark plugs and the rear oxygen sensor. The check engine light still come on.

Answeri believe that this car has a mass airflow sensor located between the air filter box and the throttle body. it has a plug with maybe 5 wires on it and is held in place by 2 Phillips head screws. a code po171 is almost always fixed by replacing this sensor. the misfire code will also go away as problems with this sensor can also cause misfires. clear the codes after replacing it and i can almost guarantee they wont come back!

Are Camry and Lexus es300 parts interchangeable?

Toyota Parts for LexusIn many cases they are. Mainly with drive and suspension. Not much in body and interior parts. I use a nearby Toyota dealer for convenience rather than drive 20 miles or so to a Lexus dealer. My car is a '97 ES-300 and I start out by asking for '97 Camry parts. ( Incidently the Avalon is part of the group also) I have changed front strut supports, coolant, spark plugs and wires, filters for air, fuel, oil and transmission internal, using Toyota parts. I always brought the old parts in for exact comparison because Toyota uses a different parts numbering system and they evidently can't access Lexus parts numbers. I think my replacement EGR assy. and throttle sensor could have come from Toyota also but there could be calibration differences as the Lexus V6 makes a little more power. No apparent price differences, but the trip through the Lexus facility does make one feel richer!
