Pretty much unscrew and unplug the cluster and install a new (or good used one.) Why not take this opportunity to install one with a rev counter. The 1600 cluster with the rev counter works on the 1300.

No, manual transmissions on most if not all cars do not have dipsticks. Check the side of the transmission. In most manual transmissions there are two drain type plugs that can be screwed out. The bottom plug drains all oil. The plug that is part way up the side of the transmission is the fill level plug. With the engine OFF! Pull the plug, put your finger in the hole and see if there is any oil below the level of the plug hole. Oil SHOULD come to the bottom of the hole. If you can't feel any oil with your finger add more.

My friends car did the same exact thing. It could be your transmission sensor. I am not exactly sure what the sensor is called but it has to do with the way it shifts. Overdrive sensor maybe?

You don't have to take out the instrument cluster or steering wheel. If you take off the panel below the steering wheel, you can see up and behind the instrument cluster. The speedo cable is attached to the gauge with a white plastic clip, which can be gently pried off with two flathead screwdrivers. Then you can pull it through the firewall.

It's factory set. There's a air screw that's accessible and you can play with it to sync it with RPM. Get yourself a chilton manuel. If that fails; drill out cap that covers the fuel screw(passenger side above the ERG on the carb) and reset the factry setting by turning the uncapped screw. Be very careful when drilling or you'll rip /tear up the screw(and then your screwed). BE forewarned that your emmission values will change accordingly.

There are Two Oxygen sensors on this car. One is located right on the front of the engine on the exhaust manifold, behind a metal plate held on by three hex screws. The other one is located behind the Catalytic Converter, screwed right into the exhaust pipe. This one is connected to the computer inside your console right by the gear shifter.

This is very easy for Tercel 95 to 2000. Open trunk; you see that the red cluster of taillights has two bolts, toward the center of car, holding it on. Remove them; push cluster gently towards outside of car. Now you've got access to all 3 or 4 bulbs in cluster.

I belive almost all have a fuel injected inline 4 cylinder, 1.5 liter, 3 valve per cylinder and produces about 91 horsepower, great fuel milage and decent power output with bolted to a 5 speed manual tranny. The Scarlet, the over seas version came with a 1.3 turbo producing about 110 horse, same block but different head, exhaust and intake, and wiring, would be a nice upgrade!!

The timing marks on a 1991 Toyota Tercel are on the crank pulley. They are located on the front of the pulley and under the cam.

I don't know which engine you have so I can only tell you that on my Dad's 84 the thermostat was behind the inlet for the BOTTOM hose instead of the top hose. It is located below the distributor cap on the driver's side of the engine.

The starter on a '93 tercel, if you are looking from underneath the car, is directly to the left of the alternator. It is a fairly simple job to remove and replace the starter. If I can recall correctly the only thing that you need to remove is the intake support braket, but don't quote me on that.

You generally start by dropping both front axles at the transaxle then disconnecting all electrical, hydraulic, control, refrigerant, and fuel lines then disconnecting the motor mounts and hoisting the engine/transaxle assembly out as a unit. From there, you unbolt the bellhousing of the transaxle and split it off. Installation is the reverse. Find a good shop manual and a buddy who has done it before.

The job will require at least a case of beer.

The fuel pump is located in the tank. You will need Pliers, a Phillips screw driver, a 14m and 13/16 wrench. Remove the back seat. Pry off access cover and you will see the top of the tank. Disconnect the 3 lines that go to the fuel pump. Remove 8 Phillips screws, and carefully pull out fuel pump assembly. Remove and replace strainer and pump. Reverse procedure for installation. NOTE: you will need silicone to reseal access cover. NOTE: Procedure was done on a 1995 Tercel, 1993 should be the same.

You can find the freeze plug (opening for the Block Heater in Canadian versions) just behind the headers (exhaust pipes leaving the engine) on the left hand side.(facing the engine) At least on my 1992 Toyota Tercel. Engine code 3E-E.
