You can recognize that this is true when you realize that before computer keyboards, typewriters and typography in general had no such thing as the "backslash". (At least, not commonly.) The only "slash" was the "forward slash".

(Think and-slash-or for and/or. When have you ever seen the backslash, "\", in literature? And have you ever noticed that the question mark/forward slash key practically always sits in the same location on all QWERTY keyboards, while the backslash is often in different locations on different QWERTY keyboards? Some today, consider baptism to include the practice of sprinkling water on the forehead, but that is not the Bible's standard for baptism, nor the way it was done by Jesus and first century Christians. Fonts aren't actually added to Office. Instead, they are added to the computer in general for use in other programs such as Wordpad or WordPerfect. There are a number of website where you can preview and download fonts such as http://www.1001freefonts.com/ All you have to do is preview the font, save it to your computer and unzip it (Windows XP can do this without additional software, older versions of Windows may require that you download WinZip at http://www.winzip.com--It's FREE!) After the file is unzipped/no longer compressed you just need to move the font file (ends in .TTF usually) to your Font folder. To find your Font folder, go to My Computer-->Hard drive where Windows is installed (usually C:)-->Windows folder-->Font folder. All you have to do is copy and paste the .TTF file to this folder. It may sound a little complicated, but once you do it a few times it becomes easier. It's also possible to pay for groups of fonts that you can install all at once. Creating an outline of a font is useful for many things, one being the document can be viewed on a computer that does not have the font. Once the font has been outlined it is art and no longer text. The best way to use this feature is to save an .ai file that is text, then after outlining save as a different name, creating 2 files, or keep text on a separate layer in the outline file.

You may need to restart the application after activating the font in font book. Another reason could be too many fonts are turned on, or activated.
