How early can I find out if I am having a boy or a girl?

Usually the doctor does not doa sonogram until you are apprx. 20 weeks along. They can, if you are lucky, find out then! But sometimes baby's do not allow them to by simply not showing them! My Dr. had no problem telling me what my daughter was and they were right! My best friend and sister are pregnant right now and are both having girls. My sister had no problems finding out what she was having but at my best friend's sonogram we were trying so hard to know and the baby had her legs X'ed in front of what we needed to see! So while there is no guarantee you will see it for sure, 20 weeks is your best bet! If not other tests can tell you for sure but they are usually only done under bad circumstances such as amniocentesis' and such. Good luck on your sonogram! Oh, and I do believe that most practices give women 2 sonograms... one around 20 weeks and one around 30 weeks or so and maybe they will tell you there if the one at 20 weeks doesn't pan out!! Pam

What month can you hear the baby's heartbeat?

The babies heart beat develops at the fifth week of pregnancy. By the 12th week of pregnancy, you may be able to hear the babies heart beat. This can vary by days or even by a week or so, as well as how "high-tech" the device is. So don't be alarmed if you dont hear it on the first day of week 12!

How do i work out due date my period was last weeks in July?

http://www.americanpregnancy.org/duringpregnancy/pregcalc.html

use the above pregnancy calculator, there are several other ones out there as well, this one will give you a due date and estimated day of conception as well! Just estimate the FIRST day of your LAST period and put that in the first box (mine was 07/06/2009) and then estimate how many days apart your periods are (mine are roughly 30-32) most are 28 day cycles. The Doctor gave me a due date of Apr 12, 2010, but this is close by telling me Apr 15, 2010. All of the calculators are close but different, but it is only a number because actually only 5% of women give birth on their due dates!!!

Why after having a pelvic ultrasound did I need to have a transvaginal ultrasound immediately?

If you are in the early stages of a pregnancy, a transvaginal ultrasound is preferred over a transabdominal ultrasound (scanning through the top of the lower abdomen) because a transvaginal ultrasound provides much more detail and accuracy in assessing a fetus. Early on in pregnancy, the baby is extremely small, only a few millimeters long in the first few weeks. A transvaginal ultrasound will allow the doctor to see the baby's heart beat, even at 5 weeks old in the womb, whereas a transabdominal ultrasound would have an extremely hard time seeing something so tiny.

If you are NOT pregnant, and you had t have this type of exam, this is nothing out of he ordinary. Sometimes, during a transabdominal ultrasound, gas from your stomach and bowel can get in the way, making it very hard to see organs such as the uterus and ovaries. If you do not have a full bladder, it will be nearly impossible to obtain medically relevant images through your stomach. A transvaginal ultrasound does not need a full bladder nor does it rely so much on the absence of bowel gas. In this case, it also provides much greater detail than a transabdominal ultrasound.

How soon can you tell your pregnant if you have not had periods for 5 months?

so you havnt had your period for reasons other than pregnancy i am understanding, well i would wait 1 week to 2 weeks after you had sex to take a urine test and see what the answer is if positive consult a ohysician, if negative there is still a possibility it is incorrect so wait until the times where you are supposed to start feeling symptoms if none come you are probably safe try taking aNOTHER TEST,If you start feeling symptoms consult a physician

What is involved in an ultrasound scan?

An imaging ultrasound is a simple, safe and routine procedure using very high frequency (ultrasonic) sound waves to "look inside" the body. Arrange to have the procedure and show up. In the exam room the sonographer will apply a gel to 1) aid in the conduction of the ultrasonic signal from the wand to the skin and 2) lubricate the skin to make it easier to slide the probe around. It doesn't hurt (but the gel may be cold). The ultrasonic probe will be placed on the skin and slid around while the sonographer looks at imaging results. Maneuvering the probe permits different "views" of a given area of interest. The interpretation of the displayed images is the real meat and potatoes of sonography. It is not uncommon for a sonographer to get another medical staffer or a physician to look at image data and assist with interpretation. It's a good procedure, but it has a few limitations. One could ask about them, because a key to getting the most out of the experience is to ask thoughtful questions. If answers are unclear, say so. Some clinics permit bringing along a friend or family member and having that person present. You already know who you want to bring. Someone smart who can help with questions or their answers as well as hold your hand or your coat.

Im 7 weeks and 5 days when you had the us it measured 6 weeks and 1 day with a heartbeat you also had a us done at 5 weeks and 6 days and there was nothing your hcg levels were slow at first then took?

OK.. it seems there are a lot of little Q's in your Question... so I will start at the beginning... If you think you are a certain gestational age (how far along you are) and the ultrasound says a little bit different that's no big deal... sometimes its a matter of what the Dr. puts into the machine or what the machine is judging the size of your baby as.... so maybe your baby will be a smaller one... or maybe since your hormone levels took a while to sustain themselves it will pick up growth and be completely average.... as long as there was a heartbeat that is a good sign..... I don't know why a sonogram wouldn't pick up something at 5 weeks even if it just showed your sac developing... however... since you were so early then it is a possibility... especially I imagine if you are a thicker gal like myself... As for your HcG levels... I miscarried a baby in October 2001 because my levels weren't enough to sustain the pregnancy... which is also why I couldn't get home pregnancy tests to read right... as they measure the HcG in your urine... I miscarried just days after finding out I was pregnant... however, 4 months later I became pregnant with my daughter who will be 5 in November and had a perfect pregnancy... no problems at all... I am glad to hear your HcG levels are going up... sounds like you could be fine...

On the flip side... if something is going on and the pregnancy isn't viable (doesn't carry to term) it usually means that there was a medical issue with the baby, like something just wasn't perfect, and the embryo knew it... take heart and know at least you got pregnant and if you really want to you may become pregnant again... don't dwell... it's very difficult not to and I did... so I know firt hand lol ........ Good luck!!!

What is visible on an ultrasound at 6 weeks?

At 6 wks pregnant, on ultrasound, you can see the gestational sac ( the home of the baby). Unless you have an endovag ultrasound, then you can see a very small fetal pole and a small heart beat. It is very hard to see anything at that early of pregnancy.

If your LMP was Nov. 4 and 3 ultrasounds showed your due date as Aug. 11 and one said July 31 what are the chances you got pregnant the last week of September?

It's not possible at all. If your last menstrual period was November 4, you would've conceived somewhere around November 18-21, if you generally have normal periods and ovulate on time. The general rule of thumb to determine a rough due date is to subtract 3 months from your LMP and then to add 7 days. Since one due date is earlier, it is possible that you could've conceived around the third week of October and November 4 was implantation bleeding. That really is the earliest conception would have occurred. Well even with the earliest duedate that they gave me the date conception still lays at nov 6th which maybe i was wrong and my last day of my period was the 4th who knows. And also I had a day of spotting dec 5th and then it stopped and i took a test
