This seat is secured with two bolts in back and two hooks in front. Slide seat all the way forward, remove two bolts with Torx 45 heads from rear of seat tracks. Position seat recliner in full forward position. Remove headrest- requires small tool like a paper clip to release. Lift rear of seat (pivot on front hooks), disconnect wiring under seat, tilt seat forward as far as it will go. Pull rearward on seat to remove hooks from floor. Sometimes seat needs to be angled toward the door to get enough vertical clearance- then remove one hook at a time.

This can't be answered with any accuracy. It depends on the bus (year) and required displacement. Labour? Takes a competent mechanic less than an hour to successfully install a bus engine.

actually...reverse is down next to second instead of up next to first, after the downward pressing of the entire shift rod into the floor, move the shifter to the left toward your knee and back toward the front corner of your seat. there is a safety mechanism made of plastic in the bus transaxle which prevents accidental shifting from first into reverse when shifting into second. however, very few of these transaxles still have this safety mechanism in tact, often resulting in the accidental grinding of reverse while attempting the shift into second. hope this helps. :) the previous post reflects the proper shifting into reverse on water-cooled vw models, not air-cooled such as the bus or beetle.

Waterboxers are notorious for bad head gaskets,but i have also seen faulty oil coolers.those are your only points of failure for this complaint.

One can buy camper shells from eBay, Leer, Amazon, Craigslist, and more. Some good advice is to not leave anything of value in the camper shells, because the valuable may get stolen.

As far as I can tell, they don't make J-tubes for the Type 4 engine you have. I can see why you'd want them though--aircooled.net wants $250 for ONE heat exchanger for your car.

I'd like to know, also. It couldn't be very heavy, because, when one was blocked in by other cars on a street near the beach, I picked up the front end and dragged it out, so the owner could drive it away. I think that 6 guys could probably carry one.
