Where do the wolves originate from in Yellowstone National Park?
The wolves currently there are decendents of gray wolves brought to the park from Canada in 1995.
Ecologists studying the ecosystems of Yellowstone Park started noticing that was degrading. The plants in the park were being overgrazed, which started to affect the river beds. Once the plants/vegetation started degrading, fewer birds were being spotted in the area. This was due to the fact, that they used these plants for nesting materials and shelter. There was also an increased in the coyote population, which started affecting the populations of other animals. Without the wolf, the entire ecosystem was degrading. The Ecologists hoped that by reintroducing the wolves, the ecosystem would be able to correct itself and balance out.
Within the first year, ecologists started noticing positive changes, and within three years, the ecosystem had almost completely restored itself. The other benefit, was economical, once word had gotten out about the wolves, tourism to Yellowstone increased.

Do timber wolves live in Alabama?
Without a doubt my son and I saw a Grey or a Timber wolf in Sylacauga today. We were about 8 miles deep into County Road 5 not far from Lay Lake. A very large and extremely fast wolf darted across the dirt road. It was beautiful. No doubt about it. It was not a dog, not a coyote and definitely not a fox. I won't dispute that it could have been a hybrid mix of some kind, but it was a wolf and it was without a doubt wild. I have a 65lb half chow and golden mix. The wolf was at least 75lbs if not 90!
