They actually make tools specifically for the car, but most times you can just buy a cheap boot puller at many stores or online.

Mine is a 5 speed, and I don't know if it's different for an automatic. However, if you're laying under the car, look to the right toward the front of the engine. There's a plastic cover protecting the undercarriage. You'll see an access hole in that cover right below the filter. The filter...

Generally, the engine will sound louder. If you take a rolled up rag (so you don't burn your hand) and hold it tightly over the exhaust pipe while the engine is idling, you will hear a sound like compressed air leak. How long you can avoid repairing it depends on how much you value ...

Owner's manual for my '96 says 3.7 US quarts. I would expect it to be the same. If you don't have an owner's manual and take care of your own car, you really need to get one. They are available on eBay for less than $10. Newer ones are available for download in .pdf format on Subaru's web site free.

You may be asking about the amount of time they are guaranteed. Check with your dealer or warranty manual. Lastly, you...

== Answer == There should be a black box located on the left, inside your engine bay, mine's made out of plastic, your air filter should be located in there.
Follow the trany lines from the radiator and the will go inside the front fender on the drivers side. you will need to remove a panel on the under side of the car & you will see a spin on filter similar to an oil filter.
The engine air filter is located above the engine and filters the incoming combustion air for the engine. These should be checked every oil change and depending on where and how you drive they should be replaced about every other to every third oil change or else bad gas mileage and poor engine...
See this site for the cabin air filter: http://node28.wordpress.com/2009/07/13/replace-cabin-filter-07-outback/ (copy and paste into the browser window). The engine air filter is a bit of a joy as access is tight. The filter is in a housing by the left front wheel. There is a "scoop" intake...
You have to take the panel off the inside of the back trunk door. You will then see the locking mechanism inside. (Sit on the floor of the car and lower the trunk door down on your legs gently, easier to work on.) There is a lever in back of the mechanism that springs the latch open. To watch it...

I assume that you are asking about the air conditioner on your Outback. Find the A/C compressor under the hood. Trace the larger of the two tubes coming off the compressor. The port is usually located near the firewall. Cap is usually blue and has a letter "L" on top. If you are recharging the...

Depends on which year/model motor you are trying to use and which year/model you are trying to put it into. Subaru's are built like Lego and most parts are interchangeable, problem is there are substantial wiring modifications required for some swaps.
See "FUSES and CIRCUITS" in chapter 12 "SPECIFICATIONS" of the "OWNER'S MANUAL" of the proper year, make & model.....
You didn't specify the year or transmission of your Outback, so I looked up the owner's manual for 2000 model year. They recommend less than 20 MPH and fewer than 20 miles. Since I assume that you mean for long distances at highway speeds, this would not be a good idea. Your owner's manual has the...

== Answer == Maybe you have a miss in your engine?
Heat shield. As the car gets older, it degrades, loosens and rattles. Simple cure is to have the mechanic put a new one on. Generally a low cost repair.
Subarus are well known for having rattles in the exhaust shields under the car. There are extensive heat shields on the exhaust pipes that are held on with clamps. Over time these clamps loosen up and their bolts rust out. When the engine runs through certain RPM bands (as in shifting), these...
