Tooth decay is caused by a build up of bacteria on your teeth. This can be easily prevented by regular dental hygiene. You need to brush 3 times a day, floss 2 times a day and use a water pick to regularly remove the bacteria that is gathered on your teeth. Here's a video about how tooth decay actually happens -

1 dentist says the tiny dark spot on xray at the root means root canal is needed another says its just irritation that a grind plate will help heal the tooth can still feel coldhot can it heal?

The Dark spot on the xray could be a number of things. i hope it isn't a lower premolar, because it could be the mental foramen. Anyway. If you still have hot/cold sensation it is a sign that the tooth is vital. ie the nerve still works. If you are having symptoms of discomfort. aka PAIN. then the tooth may have irreversible pulpitis. The Dark spot is a sign of abscess or inflammation. But could be an artifact or something else. The use of a cold test or EPT would give a more definative evaluation as to the vitality of the tooth in question compared to the others.

If it were me. i would wait to see if it heals and get reevaluated every few months to see if there is improvement. If you're still unsure, another opinion from an endodontic specialist might be a good idea.

In order to become a dentist, you will have to go to college and obtain a high GPA along with course requirements which varies between dental schools. You will then have to write an admission test called the DAT along with admission interviews. If you are lucky to get in, Dental school is a four year program. It is a long, hard road. Best of luck.

How many hour credits do you need to become a dentist?

The following is written by and according to the U.S. Department of Labor and particular to the education and training required for dentists.

All 50 States and the District of Columbia require dentists to be licensed. To qualify for a license in most States, candidates must graduate from an accredited dental school and pass written and practical examinations.

Education and training. In 2008, there were 57 dental schools in the United States accredited by the American Dental Association's (ADA's) Commission on Dental Accreditation. Dental schools require a minimum of 2 years of college-level predental education prior to admittance. Most dental students have at least a bachelor's degree before entering dental school, although a few applicants are accepted to dental school after 2 or 3 years of college and complete their bachelor's degree while attending dental school. According to the ADA, 85 percent of dental students had a bachelor's degree prior to beginning their dental program in the 2006-07 academic year.

High school and college students who want to become dentists should take courses in biology, chemistry, physics, health, and mathematics. College undergraduates planning on applying to dental school are required to take many science courses. Because of this, some choose a major in a science, such as biology or chemistry, whereas others take the required science coursework while pursuing a major in another subject.

All dental schools require applicants to take the Dental Admissions Test (DAT). When selecting students, schools consider scores earned on the DAT, applicants' grade point averages, and information gathered through recommendations and interviews. Competition for admission to dental school is keen.

Dental school usually lasts 4 academic years. Studies begin with classroom instruction and laboratory work in science, including anatomy, microbiology, biochemistry, and physiology. Beginning courses in clinical sciences, including laboratory techniques, are also completed. During the last 2 years, students treat patients, usually in dental clinics, under the supervision of licensed dentists. Most dental schools award the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). Others award an equivalent degree, Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).

Licensure. Licensing is required to practice as a dentist. In most States, licensure requires passing written and practical examinations in addition to having a degree from an accredited dental school. Candidates may fulfill the written part of the State licensing requirements by passing the National Board Dental Examinations. Individual States or regional testing agencies administer the written or practical examinations.

Individuals can be licensed to practice any of the 9 recognized specialties in all 50 States and the District of Columbia. Requirements include 2 to 4 years of postgraduate education and, in some cases, the completion of a special State examination. A postgraduate residency term also may be required, usually lasting up to 2 years. Most State licenses permit dentists to engage in both general and specialized practice.

Other qualifications. Dentistry requires diagnostic ability and manual skills. Dentists should have good visual memory; excellent judgment regarding space, shape, and color; a high degree of manual dexterity; and scientific ability. Good business sense, self-discipline, and good communication skills are helpful for success in private practice.

Advancement. Dentists and aspiring dentists who want to teach or conduct research full time usually spend an additional 2 to 5 years in advanced dental training, in programs operated by dental schools or hospitals. Many private practitioners also teach part time, including supervising students in dental school clinics. (See the statement on teachers-postsecondary elsewhere in the Handbook.)

Some dental school graduates work for established dentists as associates for 1 to 2 years to gain experience and save money to equip an office of their own. Most dental school graduates, however, purchase an established practice or open a new one immediately after graduation.

Does the non resident parent have to pay orthodontist bills if court papers only state you only pay medical and dental?

Yes, an orthodontist is a dental specialist. They have not only completed college and 4 years of dental school, but has also completed an additional 2 to 3 years residency program accredited by the ADA of advanced education in orthodontics. After receiving the additional years of training and education, an orthodontist has learned the skills that are required to treat the misalignment of teeth and facial development with braces, retainers, headgear and other methods. Only a dentist that has completed the additional years of training and education after dental school is an orthodontist.

What do I do about permanent injury caused by dentist she does not have malpractice insurance I cannot get compensation?

If you have strong proof, take her to court and go after her personal assets. The fact that she has not been wise enough to protect herself doesn't mean you are not entitled to compensation. Find an attorney that specializes in this sort of thing so you know you have someone that knows the real ins and outs of such a case.

Added: If the DDS was incorporated as a business (e.g.: an LLC), you may only have access to whatever her business assets are, and not her personal assets. As stated above, consult an attorney who specializes in these matters for further definitive infomration.

How do you write a dialog between a doctor and a patient?

Writing dialogue is not as hard as you're letting it seem. You have dialogue all the time -- it's called talking. If you honestly cannot think of what your characters are going to say to one another, you need to go take a break and go somewhere out in public. Sit somewhere in the middle of a crowd for one to two hours and just listen to people talking. Then, go home and write down some of the things you heard people saying. That's dialogue.

When you need to have your characters talk, just pretend it's you and a friend (or several friends), and have them say something you'd probably say in the same situation. Then imagine what your friends would say in reply, and go back and forth that way. As you become a better writer, your characters themselves will "tell" you what they want to say, because they become like real people to you.

To get into Dental School would a 3.88 GPA get you in?

Anything is possible. It would help knowing your GPA. But your GPA isn't the only thing dental schools take in to consideration. If you have a low GPA, you'll want to score high on your DAT (Dental Admissions Test). Another thing they will take into consideration, is if you had a job, extra curriculars etc. It will help if you've worked in a dental office to show that you already have a head start on some medical knowledge in the field.

If you don't get high scores on your DAT and don't get into dental school, I suggest applying for grad school and taking some extra science classes to bring up your GPA.

Speaking of science classes, dental schools will look at two different GPA's; your overall GPA and your Science GPA. you science GPA is actually much more important than your overall, although your overall is still very important. But with a heavy emphasis on science, they want your science GPA to be strong.

You will also want to write a very strong essay to the schools you apply to. This can be your "make or break". Your essay allows the school to get to know you on a somewhat personal level. With great luck, they want to set up an interview with you. If you're lucky enough to get an interview, then they are considering you, which is awesome news! You REALLY want to nail the interview. Make them remember you. It will make all the difference in the world.

Best of luck!

How do you pull out a tooth?

Without pain: if you want to pull out a loose tooth with no pain, this is what you do. Wiggle your tooth back and forth and up and down. If it doesn't come out then, take a Kleenex and put the Kleenex over your tooth. Pinch your tooth really hard and pull it out. It wont hurt.

With pain: if you want to pull a loose tooth out with pain (if you don't really mind), this is what you do. Wiggle your tooth for about 10 minutes. Take some pliers and pinch the tooth. Gently pull out the tooth. It usually doesn't hurt. This is the classic tooth-pulling strategy.

I hope you guys get your money from the Tooth Fairy! *wink* Bah-bye, now!

If your counselor tells you that you need a safety plan to get out and you're following all the steps how long does it take before you can finally leave?

You have one smart counselor there, but, if he/she didn't give you pamphlets or has the knowledge to tell you to go to an "Abused Women's Center" he/she is not doing their homework. There is no reason your counselor couldn't lead you in the right direction. It's easy to tell someone to have a plan (as they are being abused and therefore frightened and confused) and then not think about it until your next appointment. I volunteer at an Abused Women's Center. Here is what you do: Clean up your computer and delete everything! Leave no email contacts (write them down and take the email addys with you) and that goes for your phone book or any phone #s you have programmed on your cordless phone at home (including any messages on your answering machine) and also your cell! TAKE ALL PHONE #s OFF YOUR CELL because if you abuser gets a hold of your cell they have a lot of info on you. When he isn't around take all important papers with any of your personal info on them and pack them until you leave. Slowly pack all clothing you need and personal effects (you can't go back to get them once you've left.) Pick a very good friend that you can completely trust (try not to involve any males because it enrages the abuser and complicates the situation because your abuser will accuse you of having an affair) and try to have a support system going with this friend (they can also help you get to the Abused Women's Center.) For a week or two pay attention to your abuser and see when he leaves the house and when he comes back. Does he go out with the guys? Does he play a sport and is gone for a couple of hours? What is his work schedule, etc. This will show you the time that is best for you to get in touch with your friend and make a plan to leave your home. DO NOT TAKE YOUR OWN VEHICLE IF YOU OWN ONE! HE CAN TRACK YOU DOWN TOO EASILY. GET YOUR FRIEND TO DRIVE YOU WHERE YOU NEED TO GO OR TAKE A BUS IF YOU HAVE TO. Phone the Abused Women's Center in your area and if you can't find them either phone the operator and ask for the # or phone your local Mental Health and they will put you in the right direction. WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN I GO TO THE ABUSED WOMEN'S CENTER? If you have children with you there is a play area for them with someone to watch over them. The reason for this is to keep the trauma as far behind the children as possible and you're upset and the children don't need to hear about the trauma you have been through. No matter how rotten your partner is that is still your children's father and kids just see "mom and dad." The counselor's are great people and they will take you into their office and ask you questions. Just answer the questions and be as honest as you can. There is no need for embarrassment because these counselors do understand. They know you will probably break-down and cry and let it all hang out and that's why there is a box of Kleenex there. Let all that anger and frustration and misery hang loose! They will then get you settled with a Transition house and it's a "safe place" for you and your children. They will help you with legal counsel and also help you in many cases to find work. You will receive special programs to attend so you can learn patterns of abuse and the tools so you don't go back to your abuser or pick another abusive partner. Gone are the days where you have to stay with an abusive partner because society figures "you've made your bed so lay in it" and there is more protection out there for women and the laws are changing slowly, but surely to protect abused women. More and more people (the ones that are not abused) begin to understand there is indeed there is a "Cycle of Abuse" and you aren't a weak women. Abused women (or men) should be looked up too and revered for their tenacity to survive. Sometimes the abuse is so suttle at first the victim doesn't even know it's happening to them. It starts out with usually mild vocal abuse and then can lead into pushing, shoving for a bit, and a lot of "I'm sorry, it won't happen again" (but it does) and it can get very ugly. Abusers are weak, spineless, have psychological problems and since they are so angry at the world everything they think and do is right and the rest of us are wrong, so seldom does the abuser get psychological counseling. They can't be changed until they get help! I wish you luck hon, and hinge on the fact you are an extremely strong woman and have proved it by seeing a counselor already and you are ready to be independent, have your own life, some peace and in the future find a wonderful man. NOT ALL MEN ARE BAD! Stay strong Wishing you the very best in 2006 Marcy

Do you need to know percentages to become a dentist?

Why wouldn't you? Dentists mix a number of different things to apply to the teeth and gums of patients. The numbers should roll freely around in his or her head so that correct proportions can be arrived at without a struggle. Would you want a dentist who isn't any good at fractions or percentages? Not many people would find it acceptable that their dentist wasn't any good at simple math like fractions and percentages. Percentages, by the way, are merely fractions. They are one hundredths. If you have 10% of something, you have 10/100ths of that thing, or 1/10th of it. If it's 25% of something, that's 25/100ths, or 1/4 of that thing. This isn't rocket science, and fractions and percentages should be things that can be manipulated by every person graduating from grade school. Not high school, grade school.

How much does an air force dentist make?

Well you would be made an O-3 to start out with. As by the link

( See Below ) says, that's anywhere from 45 thousand to 70 thousand. However, a dentist will be getting bonuses on top of that, anywhere from 10 grand a year to 100 grand, depending on the specialty.

Another thing to think about, is that if you haven't done dentistry school yet, they'll pay for it all.
