What is hot shortness?

Sulfur in steel is considered injurious except when added to enhance machinability. Sulfur readilly combines with iron to form a low melting iron sulphide. Sulfur causes hot shortness in steel unless sufficient manganese is added. Sulfur has a greater affinity for manganese than iron and forms manganese sulphide which has a meltin point above the hot rolling temperature of steel, which eliminates hot shortness. By hot shortness we mean that the steel will literally break apart during hot rolling resulting in a scrapped product

What is the historical development of engineering and what drove engineering?

Industrial engineering has developed in the past 250 years. Five different phases of industrial engineering have almost passed. These phases are:

Phase 1: Pre-Industrial Revolution Era (up to early 1800s)

Phase 2: Industrial Revolution (early 1800s to late 1800s)

Phase 3: Scientific Management Phase (1890 to 1940)

Phase 4: Operations Research and Quantitative Phase (late 1940s to early 1980s)

Phase 5: Automation and Computer Integrated Manufacturing Phase (since early 1980s)

The future trend is towards more automation, computer controlled manufacturing, information handling through computers, and integration of manufacturing systems.

What year was the iPod invented?

Well the first ipod to come out was in 2001. This ipod only held five GB holding less data then the newer versions. The first ipod had a black and white screen instead of high def color from a HDMI screen power drive like the itouch or ipad. The ipod pretty much only played music and audio from its moderate sound board and sound drive connected to its motherboard, since this ipod could only play audio you couldnt wacth video, play games, and anyrhing that uses color and picture. Apple sonn came back with the ipod nano, then the touch, then the iphone, and the latest ipad. As you can see apple evolved a lot in 10 years. Well each nehwer ipod has a different amount of GB first the 5 GB oringinal, then the 8 GB and 16 GB nano, later came the 8 GB, 16 GB, and 32 GB itouch and iphone which soon came out with the iphone 4s adding 4g rather then the 3g setting. After all of apples hi tech accomplishments they made the ipad which came in a 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB. All of apples technology leads them to high stock and former CEO Steve Jobs millions from prices of ipods reaching from maybe 50 dollars to 800 dollars on average.

What problems might a chemical engineer face?

One of the main problems in the chemical industry is pollution. Many of the chemicals such as PCBs are very hard to eliminate from the environment for the same reasons that made them optimal for their task, including chemical and temperature stability. The best solution is not to generate hazardous chemicals in the first place, by finding better alternatives that do not have long-term waste problems. Also these chemicals should be priced based on their actual cost, including the cost of disposal of the chemicals themselves or any chemicals used in production.

Another problem is lack of sufficient research to determine what the longterm affect of chemicals are on the human body. Since many of the chemicals we use are relatively new, the industry has not had a chance to evaluate the longterm affect of the chemicals use on the human body. Chemicals should be rigorously tested by regulatory entities before widespread use in the general population.

What are the different types of scanning devices?

as i resently found out there are many types of scanners. They are the flatbed, photo, sheetfeed, portable, slide, drum, hand, single sheet scanners.

What would happen to a pulley system if the load were increased?

Ideal mechanical advantage is the mechanical advantage when there is no friction.

It is the mechanical advantage when the efficiency of the pullefy system is 100%. It is a constant for that system of pulleys. Therfore it is not affected by increasing or decreasing the load.

But actual mechanical advantage will be less than this ideal mechanical advantage due to friction. In other words the efficiency will be less than 100 %. If the efficiency is 80%, it implies 20% is wasted due to friction while lifting a load.

If we increase the load the friction also increases and hence the efficiency will decrease with the load.

What must engineers do if they discover problems testing a prototype?

Before to implement a whole idea in the form of product to the market. A prototype is manufactured of the same dimensions as original product and having the same material properties. If the result is satisfactorily and matching the design parameters. Then it's the right time to implement the idea and introduce to market in the form of product to the customer. If it fails, you can change the design parameter and improve it. Actually in this way you save your time and money both.

What effect does seawater have on metal?

Metals corrode because electrons are stolen from or donated to them by other compounds in the neighborhood ,typically other metals. Salt water conducts better than fresh.

How do you use an orsat apparatus?

give me information about orsat appratus with diagram

What is dc null voltage?

The term, 'null', simply means 'none' -so, 'null voltage' means 'no voltage'.

Most bridge circuits require you to achieve a 'null reading' on its measuring instrument, when using the circuit to determine resistance (in the case of the Wheatstone Bridge), etc.

What were some of the early tools to aid in measurement?

Weights and measures were among the earliest tools invented by man. Primitive societies needed rudimentary measures for many tasks: constructing dwellings of an appropriate size and shape, fashioning clothing and bartering food or raw materials.

If 1 foot is 0.305 meters how many feet are there in 305 meters?

There are 1,000.65617 feet in 305 meters.

305 meters x 3.2808399 feet/1 meter = 1,000.65617 feet

1 meter = 3.2808399 feet

Direct Conversion Formula305 m*

1 ft

0.3048 m

=

1,000.656168 ft

What was responsible for improvements in radar and sonar?

No one individual was responsible for improving both (or even either) technology. Radar and sonar were worked on by many investigators over decades to bring them along to the point where they are the effective, reliable tools we look to as we attempt to look at things in the sky, below the water and in the ground. What is arguably the most effective technology in bringing radar and sonar forward is the advancements in electronics, and in computer technology.

Which power factor is advantage lagging or leading and why?

A lagging power factor is caused by inductive reactance, which is composed of resistance and inductance -- and the resistance component lowers the supply volts. A leading power factor provides capacitive reactance that actually helps improve source voltage -- this helps motor loads run cooler.

How much work must be done on a 24-kg shopping cart to increase its speed from 1 ms to 4 ms?

Probably less then solving this question or since F=ma 72N. The N stands for Nitwick.

How many gallons of oil in a ton?

One ton of oil is equivalent to approximately 7.33 barrels, or 307 gallons. This conversion is based on the fact that one barrel of oil is equal to 42 US gallons. Therefore, to convert tons to gallons, you would multiply the number of tons by 307.

What country did Motorola originate from?

Motorola is a telecommunications company that originates from the USA.
