He believed Cortéz was a descendant of the alleged leader who brought his people to Mexico. Allegedly the leader left the people after bringing them to Mexico, and when he came back to them, they would not recognise him as their leader, and he left again.

Therefore the people believed that his descendants one day would come back and rule them once again.

When Cortéz and his men came with weapons, clothes and bigger ships than they had ever seen, they believed Cortéz was him.

The Aztecs were the only country in the region, so they did not trade with other countries. However, they did trade with small tribes both within and outside of their borders like the Zapotec, Olmec, Toltec, and other similarly situated peoples. However, most non-Aztecs deeply resented the Aztecs and tried to avoid trading with them when possible.

The Aztecs came from Asia, crossing the Bering Strait and settling eventually in Latin America, after some wandering around as they were defeated, being weak. They greatly respected some other strong tribes and adopted the feathered-serpent god as their own. Eventually they were exiled to an island called Tenochtitlan, where they settled because of an old legend. They expanded the island by making floating islands, called chinampas, which are still used today. The Aztecs conquered lands around them and became very strong and respected/feared. It's lucky I'm having a unit on this :). (Probably I didn't have to say all that but the basic answer is this-Asia.)

Compared to European cities of the time Tenochtitlan was a very large city. Population estimates vary from 212,000 to 350,00 making it one of the very largest of it's day.

The city was well organized, with many squares where markets were held and trading carried on. They were not a savage civilization as once thought. It was a planned city with specialized workers.

You may be thinking of the Mayans (a lot of people confuse the various civilisations of South America for some reason), who are still a thousand years the Egyptians' junior, coming into being around 2000 B.C.

After Cortez had defeated the Aztec's in 1521, he was appointed Govenor of Mexico and ruled from 1521-1524. During this time he initiated the construction of Mexico city by destroying the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan and building the new city on top of the ruins. He supported efforts to bring Christianity to the native population, and over the next 7 years tried to establish peace among the Indians of Mexico. He developed mines and farming, imported domestic animals[sheep,cattle,horses] and in 1524 introduced a land tenure system. He appointed men to extend Spanish rule through out the country, was one of the first to attempt to grow sugar in Mexico, and one the first to import African slaves. Within 2 years of the arrival of Cortez, the Aztec Empire had been totally destroyed.

The Aztec people of northern Mexico, arrived in Mesoamerica in the 1200s. They settled the city of Tenochtitlan and flourished in Mexico until the arrival of Europeans in the 15th century.

There will be nothing Inside an Aztec temple. It will be a vaulted empty chamber made with stone blocks.

Before the spanish came there used to be one or more statues of Gods, HuitziLopochtli (God of War) or Tlaloc(God of Rain),etc.

There might be some blood stain on the wall and floor which you can detect with a camcorder.

Some chamber like the one in Chichen Itza even has a big snake and some human skeletons plus some treasure in it.

I wouldn't call it "trading" when 600 men come into a society and invade it. The Spanish did give the Aztecs old world diseases and took the treasures they could find from them.

Montezuma read he aztec calendar said that there were going to be a god named It was predicted that the god would have "So they treated Cortes and his people as gods. Later on Cortes was treated as roalty. He was now friends with the king of the aztecs Montezuma. But Cortes held Montezuma captive so the aztecs would give him gold and jewelery. So montezuma went out to the crowd to calm them down but then got hit by a rock and died. So now Cortes was in trouble and had to get out. Only half of his men (including) himself made it out. Later on they went back and took over with more guys, guns, and other weapons. He new if he captured montezuma then he could get what ever he wanted. But his plan back fired. But he went back and conquerd the aztec empire

no one really knows, the answer is still unknown...but some possible reason are famines, natural disasters,ect.

xyco_fryx: Mayan are descendant of an ancient race of probably Lemurians ( as you can our dated history is only five thousand years ago, but others say it pre-dated back 30 thousand years ago). As you can see Lemurian were believe to travel by teleportation a long lost technology using only thr mind or psyche. I you can remember Enoch on the bible (Old Testament that Enoch did not die because he ascended to what you call heaven (other esoteric figure call it another plane of existance)). Mayans are not barbarian as other book says in fact they are more technologically advance than you think same through as the Egyptians. Actually the cold about life is you must ascend first before you die or you will repeat another cycle of life in this earth.

The Mayan civilization for one, has not dissapeared it is still alive and well, the temples were abandoned but the language the culture and the people are still alive and well thank you very mcuh, who knows if the USA can say the same in one hundred years, I doubt it very much

Why was Hernán Cortés interested in Mexico? Because he was interested in gold and silver.

Unfortunately for the Aztecs, they welcomed the Spanish with gifts made from just the precious metal that fired the conquering spirits of Cortés and his men. The gifts of gold motivated them to conquer the city of Tenochtitlan, from where the gold had come. The conquest came with the aid of Native tribes the Aztecs had conquered. The conquistadors melted down countless amazing Aztec cultural items from Montezuma's palace into bars of gold.
