I think it could be due to geometrical shape of the electrical contact at the socket or housing If the contacts are in an arc shape, it might reduce the surface contact to a very narrow point which will overheat by lack of material for heat dissipation. the overheat situation will create a spark at the contact which will create some carbon deposit which will increase the contact resistance inducing more heat until melting. the fuel pump should "wine" (like a nice Merlot) or "energize" when you turn your key on. When the car is running it also "wines" like an electric motor. You can also hear this outside the car at the trunk. If your car will not start and you suspect it could be the fuel pump, turn your key on, and listen carefully for this sound. You may not have to replace the pump! I went to a repair shop to make an appointment to have the non operating fuel pump replaced in my 1991 Mercury Marquis. They told me the job would cost about $ 500.00 ! But they also told me to try something first.1. Jack up the rear of the car.2. locate the pump.3. Have a helper turn on the ignition switch, do not turn to "start". 4. Simutaneously, you beat on the tank where the pump is located with a rubber mallet. On the 3rd "cycle" of this routine my pump started to work & continues to do so.

There isn't much to the HEI dist. on the older GM cars. All of the HEI's of the time used the same coil that drops into the top of the dist. under the center dust cap. With the exception of the contact points, (the number of plugs) they all used a Standard Ignition Coil Pack. The wireing was the same for v6 and v8 applications. The correct fireing order for the 231 is; 165432

How do you replace the front turn signal bulb on a 1998 Buick Century?
1. Open hood and locate the light assembly (left or right). On bothsides of the assembly you have a white piece of plastic that slides up and the whole unit comes loose. Make note where the light assembly connects to the car before removing the assembly. 2. Unplug the wire harness so the entire unit can be removed. 3. On the back of the light assembly, remove the round rubber piece for the bulb you want to replace to expose the light socket. 4. Turn the socket counterclockwise (about 90 degrees turn) and pull the entire bulb socket out. 5. Remove the old bulb from the socket by grasping near the base and pulling. 6. Insert the new bulb (in the same direction as the old one). 7. Reinsert the socket into the assembly by aligning the tabs on the socket with the holes in assembly and turn clockwise (about 90 degrees) to relock the socket in place. Then replace the round rubber piece. 8. Reconnect the wire harness and reinstall the white pieces of plastic to hold the assembly in place. Good luck. Should take about 5 minutes to do this.
