Buick Century

This category covers questions about the Buick Century, a line of full-size luxury models from the Buick division of General Motors. The name originated from the British slang for exceeding 100 mph as "doing the century." The Century is sold as the Buick Regal in Japan as Toyota Motor Corporation claims rights to the name "Century" there.

What causes the ac to only blow from the defrost vents on a 94 Buick century?

There are a couple of possibilities. The vent diverters are either physically stuck in the duct work or the diverter motion has been stopped by losing a power source. The diverter is the vane within the duct that changes the location/direction of the fan controlled air movement in the vehicle cockpit... whether it's providing heat or air conditioning. The power loss could be the electrical wiring, fusing, motor or the solenoid providing the positioning of the vane. Another possibility is the "defrost" selection or button is always on or enabled. I hope this will help you in determining the problem. WBT

Is it expenxsive to replace the gasket for a transmission fluid leak?

If you are talking about the Pan Gasket, here is what you do. Pick up a Transmission Filter Kit from NAPA, Autzone etc along with 6 quarts of Trans Fluid. The Filter kit comes with a new filter and a gasket. Remove the pan bolts, have a larget catch pan to catch the fluid, because there is no drain plug. Once the pan is dropped replace the filter and re-install the pan with the new gasket. Put 3-4 quarts of fluid back in transmission through the dip stick in the engine compartment "before you start the engine". Start the engine and let it idle and the trans fluid get warm. Add fluid until you reach the full mark for hot fluid. Be careful not to get to much because there is no way to drain it except by dropping the pan again.

How do you remove the rear door panel on a 1997 buick century in order to put the window back on it's track?

The rear panel can be removed by first taking out the blank panel at the bottom of the panel arm rest. It's a small about 3" long panel and it just clips out. This exposes two torx screws that hold the arm rest to the door. Remove those. There may be a screw behind the door latch also, but I don't remember. Anyway, those are the hidden screws. Once they are removed, the whole panel can be pulled off, it is attached with those slip in GM plastic fasteners. If you break them, don't worry, they are available at AutoZone, or about any other parts place. The panel will unclip and then go up to clear the upper clips by the window. The power window and lock buttons can also be disconnected by unclipping them from the panel, and removing the wires after opening the clip holding them on to the switch.

Where is the oil filter located on a 2006 Saturn Vue 4 cylinder?

The oil filter on the 2006 Saturn Vue 4 cylinder is located in front of the engine compartment.

You will need a 1 1/4" socket to remove the cover and the filter (it is attached to the cover).

Now, standing at the front of the vue, with the hood open, look just to the left of the battery box and down. You should see the large socket cap. There is a notch in one of the intake hoses for you to get an extension on the socket. Unscrew that cap and remove the old filter. replace with the aftermarket filter CH9018(Fram) or equivilant.

Make sure to change oil also, unless you are running extended service synthetic and only changing the filter.

How hard is it to fix a front sway bar on an '86 Accord DX that has just been disconnected on the passenger side?

If by "disconnected" you mean unbolted, and if by "fix" you mean re-bolting, then it's not hard. It should consist of an endlink, which is typically just a bolt that connects the end of the sway bar to the lower control arm. Endlink bushings should sit on either side of the sway bar and on either side of the lower control arm. If you look at the way the sway bar is connected on the driver's side, it should be easy to figure out.

Where is the oil filter located on a 2007 rav4 6cyl?

I have an 08 RAV4 w/ the 6cyl. Oil change is a breeze- you don't even need a lift unless you have a huge head. Oil pan right next to the front passenger wheel, drain plug on the far side. Oil filter housing is RIGHT NEXT TO the oil pan. Its an aluminum cylinder w/ square, 3/8" female fitting. After you drain out all the oil, you turn that square fitting (counter-clockwise) and let the oil drain from there. Then you twist the entire housing (counter-clockwise). Switch-out the gaskets (there are 2), switch out the filter element and twist the entire housing back into place. Its really easy. I'd like more info to this question as well. However, I have found one good post regarding changing the oil filter on Toyota's current 6th generation 3.5-litre V6 engine. I believe this is the same engine as in the 2007-08 V6 Camry:

http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/lexus/92458-lexus-es-350-oil-change/

I have heard there is a protective plate with a number of screws that needs to be removed before you can get to the oil filter housing. Would appreciate if someone could verify this and if someone could provide pics of where exactly the filter is located.

The relative ease of changing my own oil is is a definite consideration when buying a new car. It is the reason I've not considered buying a late model Toyota with the 2GR-FE line of V6 engines. Maybe someone can convince me otherwise.

No heat blows cold air and losing coolant but no leaks found in buick century 2002?

If you are losing coolant, there MUST be a leak ... somewhere. Coolant doesn't just "vanish" into thin air - it has to go somewhere. Chances are that there is a pinhole leak that only lets coolant out under pressure, like when traveling down the road at 50 mph or more ... rather hard to check for leaks while going down the road. As the engine case warms up, the pinhole enlarges and lets the liquid out .. when the engine cools, the metal retracts thus closing the pinhole. The only way to find the leak is to have the car stationary while simulating traveling down the road, as on a dynamometer (sp?). Not enough information to give an acurate answer. More information is needed. 1. Is the vehicle running normally? 2. Is the vehicle overheating? 3. Can you smell antifreeze in the tailpipe? 4. Have you run vehicle at full temperature without moving it? You may find a leak that way. Assuming you are indeed losing coolant and do not see any on the ground below your car, you would most likely have a blown headgasket. The gasket seals the water ports and isolates them from the cylinders. The coolant could only escape through the exhaust as steam. Eventually the gasket would open to the extent that one of the cylinders will fill with water and the car will either not start, or will have an abrupt seizing or stoppage. Check for milky oil as well. Water may be going into the lubrication system.

Where is the idle located on a 1985 Buick Century sedan 4 cylinder?

there is no way to adjust the idle speed on these engines, it is all computer controlled. unless you are looking for the IAC (idle/air control valve), that is on the throttle body, and uses a 1" wrench to remove after unplugging it.

How do you recharge the ac on a 1999 Buick Century?

Buy a recharge kit and a # 134 refrigerant; follow directions. If the system is low, the compressor will not start so you will need to remove the connector on the pressure switch which is located on the dryer. The dryer is the silver cylinder on the passenger side. There are two metal prongs that you can jump across with a wire or pliers while your recharge kit is hooked up and soon the system will take a charge ;then you can plug in the low pressure switch and the system will work again.
