Check engine light? Remove the battery ground terminal for a few seconds. If you still have the problem, the light will probably come back on. I have never had that light come on except on start up which is normal.

The check engine light came on because the ECM (Engine Control Module) detected a problem. Until the problem is fixed the light will continue to illuminate. Just resetting the light will not fix the problem. Have your local auto parts store read the code(s) from the ECM. The code(s) will help determine what the next step should be. Your auto parts store will provide this service for free.

Not really. This sounds like a bad ground on the battery or the regulator.

On our 2001 1.6 Vitar it was the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) sensor that had failed. Cost £160 to replace. You can reset the light off for a time by disconnecting the battery for ~5 minutes

There are pages and pages and items that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked for codes with a scan tool. After repair light can be shut off with scan tool.

After repairing the cause of the code, you clear the code with a scan tool.

I clear the check engine light with a Scangauge II. But most ODB-II devices can read and clear the code.

Check the gas sensor which may be located inside the gas tank on some models. The wire deteriorates that connects it to the gas pump.

Go to your local Advanced Auto. or Pep boys or whatever auto parts store you have locally and ask them to check the light and they will hook it up to a little sensor, tell you why it's on and reset it so it turns off.

O2 sensor circuit malfunction (sensor 1). I got this directly out of the Haynes Repair Manual, so I personally suggest you replace your Oxygen sensors.

Just because it seems to be running fine does not mean there is no problem. It also has nothing to do with changing the oil. It is on because there is a problem with the emissions system. Have the computer scanned and have it fixed. Damage can occur to things like the catalytic converter if you continue to drive.

sounds like i would check spark plugs first but im no mechanic and spark plugs arent that pricey and can cause that type of problem. Check your computer fault codes, I would tend to suspect that your catalytic converter is clogged, creating excessive back-pressure.

I am not sure but I think you have to replace the oxygen sensor. Hope this help.

try a computer reading device that links with cars computer. they're not cheap you can rent them at most auto parts stores. not only can you turn off the light you can read whats the problem with the engine to cause the light to come on .

If you are having problems with starting your car, the car stoles on you as you drive or come to a stop sing, the serive engine lights are on, then you have a problem with 2 sensors. You need to replace them both. If you take to a mechaniv shop or dealeriship it will cost you between $300-$500.

1 Fix the prob.2 deconnect the positive battery cable for 10 minutes this will reset the computer and shut off the light but it will come back on if yoou don't fix the prob. that caused it to come on.3 you can get a book on the car that has the PC codes (resons for the Ser. light to come on) in it and then use a jumer wire to find out what code the PC detected, Then fix the prob.

unplug sensor at the bottom of your filltank if light goes out replace it Generally engine coolant (antifreeze) should be at about a 50/50 water cooloant mix/.

Seems like the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is acting up. Among other things, the TPS would cause the Check Engine Light to light up. Check the code(s) stored on the self-diagnosatic system memory to be sure.

If the check engine light is coming on periodically when hitting a bump in a 1995 Ford Taurus, perhaps a sensor is loose. Check both the oxygen sensors and the speed sensors on the transmission. Also check all sensors in the engine to make sure they are tight.
