Check engine light should have an Error code,ask mechanic to read it for you. then he will be able to expalin to you what is the reasona nd the solution for this.

If you mean the bulb failure light; The bulb failure detector compares the current drawn by the left bulb to the right bulb and lights the bulb failure light if the currents are not equal. I have never seen a bad one. The usual reason the light is still lit after the bad bulb is changed is because the new bulb is not an exact match or the contacts are corroded. Try two new bulbs. My Cirrus wouldn't start with no check engine light either and it was not the battery because the radio, lights, power windows work. After taking to my mechanic he began checking the electrical system and found that the sparks plugs were not getting any power because the distributor was bad.

disconnect the battery for 5 to 10 minutes

Replace the ignition coil(s).

Use one of those error code readers.

bad ground, burned out bulbs, faulty power feed toi it bad connection /crorosion of wires ,bad sending units

Time with no problems will make the light go out or you can hit the reset button on the test unit. If you have an auto parts store nearby, they will very often do this for you.

You can reset the engine management light Jaguar X type by checking the original Jaguar manufacturer's or owner's manual and making sure that you the reset option is available.

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1299 indicates an engine overheat condition was detected by the cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor. An FMEM Strategy called Failsafe Cooling was activated to cool the engine. (Refer to Section 1A, «Electronic Engine Control (EC) System», for more information on Failsafe Cooling Strategy and the cylinder head temperature sensor.)

Possible causes:

-- Engine cooling system concerns.

-- Base engine concerns.

-- Low engine coolant level or loss of coolant.

Could be low oil level, something wrong with the car's computer system, an oil sending unit...the list goes on.....

Depends on which light is on. If it is the Check Engine light then there is a problem that is effecting the emissions system. Have the ECU scanned with an OBD2 scan tool.

You must have an engine scanner to do that.

Some will reset if batt disconnected 15 mins-but not all cars. And the repair has to be done prior or it will come back on. Something you might try.

Mass air flow sensor high.

Look for electrical issues, grounding wires are common.

Check for leaks in the ducting, look for bad grounds.

Battery negative test to block, less than .04 volts is ok.

Now test it to the chassis .02 is ok.

Do this with engine on.

TPS voltage should be steady at idle, move the throttle around and see if it always comes back to the same reading.

Check your throttle bore shaft for wear by wiggling it ( with the engine off)

if it is worn it will send all kinds of mixed signals to the computer, same result if the ground is bad, this is observed by the variation in idle voltage.

Trouble code P0440 means:Evaporative emission control system malfunction

No. You have to physically turn the engine clockwise by hand using the appropriate socket and wrench on the crankshaft vibration damper bolt.

PO447 indicated a leak in the EVAP emissions system. First thing to do is check to make sure the gas cap is tight. Also check the seal on the cap. If that is good and the cap is tight then you have a problem somewhere with the hoses or the purge valve.

It means that the computer has detected a malfunction in the charging system. It could be over or under charging. You will need to have the system checked.

Try removing negative battery cable for 10 minutes. If that does not work you will need an OBD2 scan tool to reset the light. I just cleaned my egr valve and the check engine light went off and I drove it a little and it came back on how long do I have to drive my car after work with the egr valve how many miles

You either need a scan tool, or unhook the battery for a minute.

P0444 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Open

A defective thermostat can cause the engine to overheat. It can also cause the engine to not reach full operating temperature if the thermostat is stuck open. It is possible this could set the check engine light.

I had a similar ETC problem and after looking arround, found out that when computer receive a high voltage spike, it goes to failsafe mode and does not generate the trouble code. If look at the saved trouble codes with a scanner, you'll probably find codes that happened after the fact. (mine were two codes about throttle body actuator) After using a scanner with live data, I noticed an occasional misfire on one of the cylinders. It turned out that the coil was going bad and it would not misfire enough to trigger a code but under heavy load (like stepping on the gas) it will generate an spike and trigger a failsafe mode.
