It depends upon the model. You can get it reset for free from AutoZone. Disconnecting battery for 5 minutes will do the job as well.

if alt and battery good. then there is a dead short in the switch .by the way have alt output checked i have had brand new alt's. that were duds and did not work right.

Your car has an electronically controlled transmission. The computer will trip the Check Engine light when a problem is detected in the transmission. First check the fluid level as outlined in your owner's manual. Do Not Overfill!!!! If the fluid level is OK, then take it to a transmission expert and have it looked at.

The code P1887 is for torque converter clutch release switch malfunction.

We have a 2001 Daewoo Lanos 4dr and had a similar problem ever since we owned it. We had it in for service a lot of times, but the only thing that ever showed was a misfire in the cylinder. They even paid to have the heads re-machined at one point which never helped. Finally, we decided to start using 5W/30 synthetic oil on the oil changes which seemed to have worked. Prior we were concerned about driving the car too far from home, but we've driven it as much as 2 hours away. It costs a little more, but it's worth a try.

These codes can be caused by aftermarket scan tools and also by unpluging the scan tool with out turning the key to the off possition.

Overheated but multiple codes could have come up and more than one possible cayuse. Read trouble codes and start there.
