because your on board diagnostic system says there is a problem. Take it to an autoparts store, chances are they will test it for free and let you know the possible solutions.

There are hundreds of things that can couse a check engine light. You need to have it checked for codes.

you need an obdII scanner to read codes. either that or one of the many after market programmers.

Disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 minutes.

If the sensor has been changed, the wiring checked, then the problem is with the computer.

Crank shaft/ engine speed sensor malfuntion.

Do all of the preventative maintenance in the owners manual.

I've had that same problem. My problem was the fact that my trunk light, connected to the underside of the trunk, right behind the seat, was out. Noone but Toyota I found, had the light to fix it. It looks as if it's a fuse, but it's a light. Once I installed that light bulb (fuse looking thingie), the light in my dash went out. Good luck. ~T~ Read your owner's manual. That you have a light bulb out somewhere in the system. Check all bulbs to see if they are working right. I wondered that too. I think mine was because the right rear 'door open' sensor was bad. Set the dome light to 'door' so the light turns on when you open the door ... for me, the light would not go on if the right rear door was open. If I giggle the sensor so that the light worked properly, the orange dash light would turn off. That fixed it after a while, but then problem would return, no dome light and the orange dash light would be lit. Haven't had time to fart with it.

I just had mine fixed. I asked the mechanic where it was and he said behind the exhaust and the #4 cylinder. I don't know anything about cars but he showed me a hose that had collapsed because I needed to change the pcv valve. He said that is hard on an engine and he said I would get better gas mileage and oil useage because of changing it.

means its time for a new trannsmission, and you probably put it in gear when moving .... i have an impala and if u take it out of gear when it is in motion say good bye to the tranny

It may be a button to push or a screw to take out of one place on the back of the instrument cluster and screw it into another place on the back of the instrument cluster. Izuzu was real big on doing that back in the day.

First, make sure you have the activation code for you radio. You can get this from your dealership. Once you have that in hand, disconnect the battery in your car for a couple of hours. Then reconnect it. It will reset the Check Engine Ligh (until it gets triggered again.) Once the battery is reconnected you'll realize your radio isn't working. This is a feature that is meant to deter a would be radio thief. Use the code your dealer gave you and re-activate the radio. The code is entered using the radio channel resets (i.e. 254136).

But it sounds like your van is misfiring and the lose of oil pressure could indicate several things like worn bores/piston rings or valve guides. Good Luck and Remember.

Not sure what a hard code 8 means for a Festiva, but you can probably find a Haynes or Chilton Manual at your local library and get some understanding of the problem - whether you try to fix it yourself or have a mechanic fix the problem. I had a similar problem with a 1987 Cavalier and it turned out to be a bad catalytic converter. - Good luck. have you tried changing the spark plugs?

It can be the sensor or have the cap checked out.

The caps in these go bad. You can replace the cap/container (sold as one unit), or try putting in approximately 1 qt of coolant above the full line (sometimes this works).

Can be many things. Have the ECU scanned.

There could be many reasons why a security light is staying on. There may be an animal that is in front of the light moving all the time such as a cat or even raccoon. The light may also be defective.

Get a code reader from Autozone or a friend and plug it into the OBDII connection to read what code caused the check engine light to illuminate.

A flashing check engine light indicates to NOT drive any further.

Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to AutoZone or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.

You need to pull the Diagnostic Trouble Codes up with a code reader or scanner and fix the problem in the emission system that is causing it. Could be a cracked or missing hose, defective part, vacuum leak in the system or EGR valve.

Because it is a Ford, you really do need a code reader to pinpoint your problem, because Ford's have 3 types of codes: 1) Intermittent (which sounds like your problem since the light goes on and off) 2) Hard Code or Constant, and 3) Memory Codes (meaning it has occurred enough and has stored in memory. These are the general descriptions, as opposed to the technical ones you would get from a manual.

A code reader/scanner is the best way of doing a better job of pinpointing the culprit causing your flashing engine light.

The light is reset with a smallish BMW or aftermarket device that can be purchased relatively inexpensively. On Ebay, for example. There's a port it plugs into under the hood, then follow the device's printed instructions, which is, push a button, basically. Very easy. Get on with your bad self in that Bimmer.

Test machine can turn it off. Or disconnect battery for 5 minutes.

A clogged or defective fuel filter will very likely cause a check engine light. If it is suspected, it should be replaced.
