Check Engine Light

• Insert Key
• Do not press clutch / brake
• Press Start button
• Wait until the Car / revelant Service symbol disappears on the Rev counter display
• Immediately after the symbol goes out - Press and hold Both buttons on the Rev Counter
• Continue to hold - the system will run a dash light check
• Continue to hold
• Display will then show VIN / Menu, - continue to hold through this until the time Reappears on the display.
• Now release Only the Right hand Button (trip reset) for about a second, and then press and hold again (whilst still holding the LH button)
• After another second or 2 the display will show the Front Brake Symbol You Are
• Now in the Service Menu
• Use the BC Button (on indicator stalk) to scroll through to the relevant symbol - eg Oil Reset or Rear Brakes
• To Reset the warning indicator light - Press & Hold the BC Button at the revelant symbol until RESET appears - then press and hold again until the process is complete.
• Turn Off and On the Ignition again - Warning should now have gone!

Check your gas cap. I had a 2402 on my S40 and the gas cap was bad, easy fix...

There is no reset button for the check engine light. It must be reset with an OBD scan tool.

That means that the computer see's a problem with the emmission system are the transmission. Need to have engine scaned with a engine scanner to see what is going on.

you need a technical service manual to find that out, I don't remember off the top of my head, but it could be a bad sensor, the most common one to trigger is the air temperature sensor

You need a code reader to reset it. You can buy one for around 40.00 or mechanics have them. Resetting it without fixing the problem that tripped the code will just cause it to come back on in 25 miles. Fix it first.

I would give the selling dealer the opportunity to repair the vehicle before doing anything else. They just might do it under warranty. Does no hurt to ask.

After repairing the cause of the code, you can clear it with a scan tool.

You have more than one O2 sensor, probably three. They are all threaded into the exhaust at various points.

The lights came on because one or more computers have detected problems and set codes. You need to have the system checked for codes.

Try disconnecting the battery for about 5 or 10 minutes the reconnect, I have heard this works.

Sometimes, when you don't put the gas cap on properly, a computer will detect that the fuel evaporation recovery system isn't working properly and it will turn on the MIL. Just make sure you put the gas cap on tight and the code shouldn't come back.
