goto http://www.wjjeeps.com/faultcodes.htm got retrieve codes write the instructions down and get the code from your jeep. now find out what code means what issue. thsi should help with your issue if not then disconnect the battery and wait 30 seconds then reconnect the battery. wait for the computer to reset ( about 2 minutes.) see if the same light is still on. if it is ON then get a pro to look at it because it is most likely over your head and needs a mechanic. if it is NOT ON then drive and wait for it to come on and when it does then get it serviced....

this means that's its due a service , if you press and hold the odometer (trip) button on your dash then turn ignition on you should get a countdown from 10 to 0 then the service light will be reset, and............... the spanner has gone!!!!!

The engine light will not go off tell you fixed the cause of the engine light and erased the code that set it off.

Hook up a laptop with the appropriate software to read Cat fault codes.

you dont "tune" a diesel. fuel filter, air filter and an oil change only. no spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor..... nothing.

THis is not actually true, but tuning a diesel engine is normally done by remapping the engine management system to allow more fuel into the engine, normally results in more power and torque, normally makes fuel economy worse depending on how much the map is altered, google diesel engine shops or engine remapping. The diesel serena in the uk 1991 -2001 2.3 diesel had the reputation as the slowest car in its class 0-60, 27.8 seconds, therefore i expect it will always be slow whatever you do to it, the later ones were supposed to be better.

These are the options for code 31. You need to have it checked with a scanner, If you know the "P" number you will know what to check. The old two digit codes are not specific enough. Trouble code P0106 means: Manifold Absolute Pressure/BARO Sensor Range/Performance

First off you should take it to a GM or qualified mechanic with a computer to hook up to your ALDL connector to read the codes to see if what the problem is.

Secondly you must remember that there is a billion things that could set that code off.

The first of many I would check is

EGR valve - very common and what happens here is that your truck will run like a John Deere tractor and stall and the brakes go limp and of course suck a 1/4 tank of gas in about 30 mins, just driving down the steet etc. To fix this clean your pintle valve out and clear all carbon from the valve itself, then clean the throttle body. Now listen carefully... this will happen again and again if you do not replace your EGR valve gasket with a clean screen from www.tomco-inc.com Yours would be GM Linear EGR Gasket Tomco Part #2-1357.

The very next thing I would check is the O2 sensor - go with the bosch but remember if its a 1993-94 then you only need one. 1995 or better you have two which are really difficult to get at.

to clear the codes if all is well is simply remove your negative ground for about 10 mins and then connect and start the engine. If you code is still there you are going to have to pay for the test which is around 45-50$ (CND)

beware that not all places can get into the ALDL terminal and GM might just be the best place to start as they made these money sucking pigs of a truck in the first place.

Go to a independent garage. Pull the codes from the computer, match the code to the troubleshooting procedure, follow the procedure to find the source. Repair the source, light will go out if that was the only problem. There are "monitors" or self test the computer runs the car through, if a problem occurs, it may not run all of the self tests until that problem is taken care. Therefore, another problem may exist.

Remember that you can reset the check engine light by simply disconnecting the battery, however, this will only last for around 100-150 miles if ther is something wrong with your vehicle. If there is still a problem, it will come on again usually within that period of mileage.

If you are in a state requiring emissions, then don't bother doing it unless you know for sure it will stay off before taking it in and you have at least that amount of mileage on it. By resetting the computer, you lose all data (codes) and it will show up on the machine in the emissions place, therefore wasting $25 (or whatever they charge where you're at)

The Check Engine Soon Light is a sign something is wrong with your vehicle. Rarely does it indicate something wrong with the light itself, but that has also been known to happen. Whatever you do, do not ignore it because before you know it, the vehicle may not run.

Make sure your Truck is in good maintenance. New plugs, air filter, fuel filter etc. Then check engine codes. Also may want to check coil packs, injectors and give a compression test.

Replaced the upstream O2 sensor on a 1999 Ford Ranger 3.0 flexfuel and the check engine light went off and came back on after driving approx. 4 miles. Read code and it showed p0153 just as it did before. Is there a certain amount of time that the vehicle has to be driven before the computer will recognize that the new sensor is OK?

Other than the MIL light illuminating you may not notice any performance issues.

A short in the O2 sensor heater circuit or the sensor itself
A faulty O2 sensor heater
Wiring or connectors are broken or frayed to the sensor or relay
Bad PCM or ECM

The fix
Correct wiring short or loose connector found in inspection.

All 1996 and newer vehicles are OBDII compliant so your trouble codes will need to be read with an OBDII code scanner connected to the port under the dash on the drivers side.

tighten or replace your cap

If the check engine light is flashing as you are driving it means you are about to destroy the catalytic converter(s). Stop the engine and get it to a garage.

Faulty wiring.

Bad plug or plug wire. A vacuum leak may also be a possibility. You may also have a burnt valve or blown head gasket. Check the compression on all cylinders to see.
