What engine? Find the serpentine belt. One of those pullies is the ac compressor. Check for a couple of aluminum lines going the back of one of those components as well as and electrical plug and you found it.

Try a lower fuse (15) first and see if that doesn't work. if it also blows, go 10 then 5. if they all blow, try 25. it is best to go lower first, though, to prevent fire hazard. The 20 amp fuse is the correct fuse for stock accessory draw. Unless you have added additional aftermarket accessories, your fuse may be blowing because there is a short in the system somewhere rather than an overdraw. If a 20 blows, then anything lower definitely will too. The amp rating of the fuse is the maximum amps it can draw. DON'T GO HIGHER!!! As stated above, the system probably has a short unless you've added additional accessories. If you have, remove them from the circuit and run directly from the the battery or ignition switch (determined by whether you need constant or switchable power) with an in-line fuse. The guage wire on the original circuit may not be able to handle more amperage. If you increase the amperage fuse, it won't blow when the amps through the wire exceed 20 which will cause the wires to heat up and possibly catch on fire. Nothing ruins a car worse than a melted wiring harness.

GM has had some issues with the fuel sending units in the fuel tank doing exactly what yours is doing and the cause is due to sulpher build up. I have a 2004 Corvette and some of those drivers experienced the identical problem. There is an additive called TECHRON you can get at Pep Boys or AUtozone or Walmnart usually best price. Add the proper amount of Techron to your fuel tank and run a few bottles through it and see if it helps. The Techron is said to remove the sulpher build up. Then go to Google and do a web search for TOP TIER Gasolines. There are certain fuels out there that already have the Techron in it. There are some fuels listed that maybe you could change to and never face this issue again. If you can't get the fuel isted in yoru area, then if the Techron works, then pu tin in every 5 tankfuls. This is what I tell anyoen who is experiencing this issue to do first. The Techron never hurts and sometimes it saves lots of money compared to the alternative of dropping the fuel tank and cleaning the fuel sending unit. Good luck

Ok. The Monte Carlo DOES NOT NEED JUMPED! Like stated above the LIGHTS/RADIO/EVERYTHING Turns on just fine. Battery is fine, We've tested the starter and wiring, battery connections are fine. It starts just fine any other time. Once in awhile you turn the key and it doesn't do anything except for turn on lights/radio/etc....It has to be something in the ignition. Neways I think we've figured it out.

Does your ignition key have the little black chip in it? If so make sure the metal contacts on both sides are clean and before you put key in ignition ensure chip is centered in key. GM made a security feature to make it more dificult for a car thief to start engine, and your car's computer uses the value of the resistor inside the little black chip in key to ensure it is the proper key for the car.

Yeah it has that chip in the key mold and the ignition apparently. We are thinking that's the entire problem. I don't know how to ensure it's centered though.

I'm not sure what year they switched the style of key, but I'm referring to if there is the chip built into the metal part of the key not the rubber handle (where you can see the chip). It was somewhere around your cars year they switched it. Also check if there is power going to the starter relay next time it happens, you can also swap it with another relay to check the relay. And check if there is power going to the S-terminal on starter if the relay functions properly.

If the bulbs are good, check the ground wire. Even if it appears to have a good connection try to re-connect it elsewhere. Good luck!

I would say its the catalytic converter, my car lost almost all power, I unbolted from the engine from the bottom of the car and it ran better than it ever had, its a good and free way to check. Just 2 10mm bolts. had same problem with 96 lumina.. turn out to be faulty fuse going in computer under passenger seat.. somtimes fuse worked fine, and had proper voltage output. other time would put out less.
