It is generally caused by a faulty coolant temp sensor. This is a cheap part that is easy to change, but it does seem to fail very often. **I have a 2001 Monte Carlo and I just went through the same thing! If your fans are running constantly also and even if they aren't....I would definitely look at the cooling system in relation to the thermostat and the coolant temp sensor. I had just flushed my cooling system but never changed anything but the coolant and the hoses and shortly after, the car started not showing any temperature on the gauge and my check engine came on and the fans constantly were running. After I replaced the thermostat and temp sensor, everything is back to normal!! Not sure which one of the two was the actual problem but since they were so close to each other... just didn't make sense in just doing one of them!! Learned my lesson on that years ago!!

check the battery ground post make sure its tight, then give it a try if it don't , check the starter if it has a week cranking noise it my be your starter that dos not have enough cranking power to turn the engine. also make sure that it is sending fuel to your injector realigns by pushing into the valve that it's located close to the power steering pump. if it has fuel you my want to check the spark of the coils take them out and take them to advance or auto zone they have a coil tester.

If it is locked up after sitting without oil then it is just corrosion. Remove the spark plugs, pour Mystery Oil down all of the spark plug holes - give it an hour to soak in / work past the rings. Fill the engine with oil - if the engine will not turn by the starter, disconnect the battery and turn the engine over with a socket on the crankshaft pulley bolt (Mystery oil will shoot out of each cylinder on the up stroke) Keep turning the crank this way until the engine turns easy enough to turn with the starter. Once it is turning freely again, replace the spark plugs and reconnect the battery. Start the car (it will smokebadly for a couple of minutes until it has burned the mystery oil out of the cylinders). On the next oil change, replace one half quart of oil with a can of "engine restorer". It comes in a silver can and has a long-term reputation for filling in scratches unlike all of these new fly-by-night additives.
