Are schizophrenics always right?

Schizophrenics are often wrong. One major symptom of schizophrenia is delusions, or false strongly held beliefs. An example of a delusion is a belief that coworkers are trying to poison you, or that the CIA is observing you when they are not. Outside of delusions, schizophrenics are wrong as often as or more often than anyone else.

Why does my child hate middle school but loves high school subjects?

This could be because your son is not being challenged enough. It might also have nothing to do with school topics, but rather how he is treated, or his own social skills.

How does the baby grow in the womb?

The First Trimester

By the time an embryo makes its way into the womb and attaches itself to the uterine lining, it has developed from a single egg into an embryo complete with all of its DNA information. The authors of What to Expect When You're Expecting describe the embryo as "tadpole-like" at this stage, smaller than even a grain of rice, but point out how quickly the tiny mass of cells is developing. By the end of the first month the baby has a head with a mouth opening, a basic heart and the beginning of a brain.

The Second Trimester

Throughout the first trimester (conception through three months), a baby grows at an astonishing rate, turning from a tiny group of cells into a fetus about the size of peach. The typical baby at thirteen weeks of pregnancy is between 2.5 and 3 inches in length, crown-to-rump . A fetus draws nutrition from its mother, so it's important that pregnant women eat healthy food at regular intervals to nourish their growing babies.

The Third Trimester

During the second trimester (four to six months), the baby continues to grow rapidly, reaching 9 inches crown-to-rump by month seven. The uterus at this point is roughly the size of a soccer ball. Because skin is developing at a faster rate than fat, the baby's skin will be loose, red and wrinkled. Babies also grow short, fuzzy hair on their bodies called lanugo, which will disappear during the last trimester. The baby's internal organs are maturing and he is able to swallow amniotic fluid and urinate. The baby now has a fully formed face, and some babies have even been photographed sucking their thumbs in the womb during the second trimester.

The Last Month

The baby continues to gain weight rapidly during the last trimester (seven to nine months). By the end of the seventh month, the average baby weighs around 3 pounds and measures about ten inches crown-to-rump . The lanugo begins to disappear at this point, while hair starts to grow on the baby's head. Around seven months the baby has eyebrows and eyelashes. The baby's brain develops rapidly during the last trimester, which is just one of the reasons premature labor is not preferable. The lungs also mature near the end of pregnancy, though a baby who is born early is still likely to survive because of advanced medical technology.

Over the last few weeks of pregnancy, a baby nears his birth weight and length. Her skull is not fully solid, which will help in the birthing process. As the baby moves through the birth canal, his head is slightly flexible and able to shift without harming the baby's brain. A few weeks after birth, his head will again be round.

Can 1 sip of beer affect a 3 year old brain?

Dont give alchol to three year olds!!!

Answer: I don't think there have been studies done on the effects of alcohol on young children (such as 3 year olds) so the safest answer to assume is to not give alcohol to those who are still developing their bodies and minds.

In terms of effects on a 3 year old's brain, I don't think there would be anything long term or significantly damaging because one sip of beer would not have a particularly high alcohol content.

I agree. Though perhaps the three year old in question found the beer all by themselves, and thought because mummy/daddy/auntie/uncle/drinks it it's okay??? It's been known to happen. But yes, it can. Nobody under the age of 18 should be drinking any alcohol, period. While drinking alcohol is okay above 18 in moderation, at no age is it sensible to binge drink, or drink in large amounts.

What are some good activities to help build leadership skills in youth?

Leadership is one of those skills that must be practiced to be mastered. Good leadership involves planning ahead and seeing what needs to be done, knowing how to motivate others, helping others to work as a team, and putting aside your own wants in order to help the team function better. Any club will provide leadership opportunities, but having a good leader to watch and learn from is always easier. A good leader will help others learn how to lead, and can give tips and skills that can be put into practice. Look around and see what groups in your area have good leaders, then join those groups. Pay attention to how the leader gives the group guidance and motivation, then try copying those skills. Ask for help with the skills, and consciously try to imitate them. A good leader is always ready to help you learn.

What are the stages of early childhood development?

According to Piaget's account there are 4 stages of development:

Sensorimotor Period (0-2 years)

In this stage, children start to exercise reflexes, and primary and secondary circular reactions start to appear. Also, between 12-18 months, the child's focus will be attracted towards the relationship between the child and other objects. By the end of this stage the child should be using symbols.

Preoperational Period (2-7 years)

Children in preschool and early elementary school are placed in this period. These children are characterized by egocentrism and centration, meaning that they focus on just one aspect of a problem.

Concrete Operational Period (7-11 years)

Children in this period are characterize by the appropriate use of logic.

Formal Operational Period (11+ years)

Both adolescence and adulthood belong to this stage. Here individuals can think abstractly and make conclusions base on the information available.

Do homeschooled children receive enough attention?

Most homeschooled children get far more attention than other children, with the exception of special needs children.

We homeschool our 5th grade daughter and 1st grade son. This is our first full year of homeschooling. We pulled our daughter out of public school in January 2003. We spend a lot of time together doing schoolwork and other activities. Much more time together now, versus when they were in public school. And it's great time too. Not just sitting in the classroom time, but getting in the kitchen making cookies time and going outside on a nature walk time. My daughter and I have finally gotten to know each other again! Homeschooling has been great for our family!

If it's done correctly, they get more attention.

Homeschooling is really a form of one-on one tutoring. You can't help but get attention that way.Where you don't get attention is as part of a larger group if you are either not naturally assertive or just so-called 'average'.Homeschooling by definition ensures attention-unless the parent never does anything with the child....in which case, you wouldn't really be homeschooling!

In a large classroom setting, even the best-trained teacher is incapable of giving the individual attention necessary to help each student excel. Parents are not only able to devote much more time to their children, but they also know their pupils on a personal level. They are able to tailor their curriculum and teaching styles in ways that are most conducive to their child's productivity. This individualized attention is one of the advantages of home schooling.

Advantages/Disadvantages

Remember, home-schooled children receives a lot of attention. But schooling will depend on the parent/teacher/tutor's interest in teaching them at home. Also, since the children may be in a more comfortable background, they may learn more easily. Furthermore, schooling may require additional fees from tutors and other teachers, unless the parent is a teacher/tutor him or herself.

Factors and conditions that can benefit andor inhibit development in children?

How does unemployment affect children their families and society?

A society is better off when the standard of living for the average person is higher. When there are more chickens bred for food we as a society can eat better. When there are more high definition flat TVs produced everyone can own one and hence live a happier life. Therefore we need every citizen to contribute his share to society in order to produce more goods that raise our standard of living. In an absolutly efficient society everyone would work to produce goods so everyone can enjoy those goods that are produced in order to have a high standard of living. When people are unemployed they burden society. They use the goods that other people create but they contribute nothing themselves. This clearly is inefficient.

One good thing however is that as unemployment rises inflation falls and goods are cheaper for those people still possessing jobs. Our government tries to balance inflation and unemployment rates using both fiscal and monetary policy, but I think that is beyond the scope of your question.

Why is early recognition of developmental delay and impairment is important?

Two reasons:

1) Dealing with learning disabilities usually involves teaching new study habits. The sooner you intervene, the easier it is to teach those new habits..."you can't teach an old dog new tricks."

2) If you intervene late, the student has already fallen behind. Not only will you have to teach new study habits, you're also going to have to get the student caught up on all the material they failed to learn before you intervened. If a kid is having trouble learning the fundamentals of reading in 1st grade but you don't address it until he's in 6th grade, he's going to be five years behind.

Is a 19 year old boy too old for a 15 year old girl?

Not really. It just depends on what you think of it. If you feel to old then that is your choice. But if you feel like it is okay then that is also your opinion and it is okay.
