When engine is cold there is horsepower but when the engine is hot there is no horsepower?

I would say that maybe your compression may be low. check that. The hotter the engine gets the less compression there is. maybe your engine is heating up too much, because your thermostat might not be operating right.

--- Yes, check the compression when it is cold and then again after hot. It could be leaking in the heads or valve train when it heats up. Metal expands when hot.

What gases are emitted when petrol is burned in a car?

  • carbon dioxide
  • water vapor
  • partially burned and unburned hydrocarbons (because of limited oxygen)
  • nitrogen oxides (because of the high temperature and pressure)
  • sulfur dioxide (traces due to sulfur in the fuel)

What is stroke of an engine?

The stroke of an engine is the distance the piston travels within the cylinder from bottom dead centre to top dead centre. This is governed by the throw of the crankshaft.

Does a 1994 Geo Metro have an interference engine?

Interference engines are quite common in consumer automobiles, so even though the specific information is harder to find it is still most likely an interference engine.

Engine making a squealing sound after spray washing engine?

your alternator could've gotten wet. if it doesnt go away after after a few time of driving it, i would take it to a shop and see what the issue is.

+++

It is most likely the sound of the alternator belt slipping under the partial lubrication given by the water - and if you are going to pressure-wash the engine, make sure you cover all electrical equipment and air intakes with plastic sheet and tape, first!

How does nitrogen oxide perform in internal combution engines?

There are several different "Oxides of Nitrogen" commonly formed in a internal combustion engine.

In laymen's language: Nitrogen will not normally bond with oxygen.

Modern engines burn fuel and Air at very very high temperatures and pressures. When Oxygen and Nitrogen are subjected to this the Oxides are formed.

The way they stop this is by Adding a little Exhaust gas to the intake air, this lowers the `Peak Burn Temperatures` just enough to reduce this. The diesel truck `DEF` fluid system does this also

If you need a scientist to explain the chemistry state that you need that type explination

How does a 4 stroke petrol engine work?

It works on OTTO CYCLE PRINCIPLE. Thre is a 4 stroke i.e. suction , compression, power & exhaust which requires 2 rotation of crankshaft.

What type of cars use internal combustion engines?

Gasoline and Diesel engines are internal combustion engines. The fuel explodes (combusts) internally (in the cylinder) and releases energy that is used to move the vehicle. Electric engines and steam engines are not internal combustion engines by definition. Steam engines combust their fuel externally to the "engine". The vast majority of passenger vehicles produced throughout history are driven by internal combustion engines.

Is the 1988 Isuzu Trooper 2.6 an interference engine?

2.6 Isuzu engine is not an interference engine; in other words, if the timing belt breaks or cam gear locating pin shears, the valves will not collide with the pistons

How can you get a 97 Ford Escort 1.8 Si to stop cutting out when the engine is cold?

a temperature sensor could be faulty...i have a 1994 legacy and i had the same problem...i replaced the temperature gage sensor and i have no more problems.

How many engine mounts does a 1985 Stanza station wagon have and where are they located?

I would want to sat 3, because you have th left motor mount, the right motor mount and then the rear motor mount which is located pretty much in the back of motor at the bottom of the car in the center

What is an mpfi engine?

'Mpfi' stands for 'multi point (electronic) fuel injection'. This system injects fuel into individual cylinders, based on commands from the 'on board engine management system computer' - popularly known as the Engine Control Unit/ECU. Mpfi Systems can either be : a) 'Sequential' i.e direct injection into individual cylinders against their suction strokes, or b) 'Simultaneous' i.e together for all the four or whatever the number of cylinders, or c) 'Group' i.e into Cylinder-Pairs.

What do you mean 2500 cc engine?

2500 Cubic Centimeters... It's the volume of a cylinder or cylinders between the bottom stroke and top stroke of the piston or pistons.

What is engine torque?

Toruqe is the amount of rotational force the engine generates. Horsepower is work performed in a straight line.

Engine light is on in a 2003 Kia Optima?

Could be a problem in the emission control system. Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem

What would be the best engine to swap on a 1989 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with its original 3.8L pre-series engine?

For ease of installation, less problems, more reliabilty when done the rule of thumb is find the same year, make model & engine size (by vin #, 8th digit is engine, 10th is year). and put in exactly what you take out.

How does petrol fuel ignite in the engine?

The compressed petrol gas fuel is ignited by a spark plug thus causing the engines' power stroke.

Who invented the combustion engine?

Inventor of the Internal Combustion Engine

Gottlieb Daimler invented the internal combustion engine.

I am sorry to say but it was not Daimler who invented the first internal combustion engine it was in fact Christian Huygens, who invented it in 1680, however the first gasoline engine was not created till 1859 by J. J. Étienne Lenoir, a french engineer.

Daimler took their concepts and developed the engine in 1885, which is said to be recognized as the modern petrol engine, he later went on to produce the first 4-stroke V-twin engine in 1889.

Nikolaus august otto

Lenoir actually engineered his engine in 1858. Also he was Belgian, born in the Belgian province of Luxembourg, not French. He Emigrated to Paris, France in the early 1850's
