It depends on their purpose. Is it to harm someone who has done nothing wrong, like the Blood Libel? Is it to deflect blame from the guilty you like, to the innocent you don't, like blaming 9/11 on Bush instead of anti-Jewish middle eastern terrorists? Is it to pretend you know more than real scientists, photographers, and other experts, like the "Apollo was a hoax" nonsense "theory"?

Some conspiracy theories are written by good people who are warning people of bad things that might happen, often they do that to outwit the conspiracy, to prevent further horrible things happening, for the benefit or for the betterment of mankind and all Life on Earth. The theories are warnings.

Some of the theories were actions foreseen 2,000 years ago by St John the Divine who saw the future, some of his Prophesies are about these days. He was one of the very best and finest of all Prophets, a good man and kind to others. He always did what God wanted him to do, regardless of all else.

The money power fears the Social Credit policies of the late C.H. Douglas because those policies will remove that power from them and return it to individual consumers. Social Credit policies are designed to allow consumer control of production, and it removes control of production from the banks and the government.

All people are resistant to change and the Romans took over countries by force. They were partially desceneded from ancient Greek (including Trojan) ancestors who felt that war was a way of life. They fought and conquored the Angles, Gaul, parts of Spain, northern Africa, and well into modern day Middle East.

Because some people will believe anything. This falls under the category of conspiracy theories, which often stem from the rather common tendency for people to percieve patterns where they do not exist. Many people who buy into these ideas are highly paranoid. They are willing to believe that natural, accidental, or coincidental occurences are part of some deliberate and often malicious effort, no matter how irrational such beliefs may be.

That goes from the storage, examination, and reverse engineering of crashed alien spacecraft, the study of their occupants, and the manufacture of aircraft based on alien technology. A few persons came forward as witness like Bob Lazar who produces identification but his academic records were vanished. Then came the development of unusual and exotic propulsion systems related to the Aurora Program and activities related to a supposed shadowy one world government or the Majestic 12 organization. A few more kept coming over the years and other will be coming.
