Differentials

It is to transfer the power between the driveshaft and the wheels. The drive shaft drives the pinion, the pinion drives the ring gear, the ring gear drives the axle(s) and the axle(s) drives the wheels.

The difference is that the CMM is a way to communicate capabilities, and ISO is a way to communicate the process. They are not necessarily incompatible. the car has a cable between the key and the transmission shifter. if this cable is worn it can be very difficult to shift from park, and will only get worse. I just disconnected mine, but you will probably want to get a new one installed at any auto shop. In our 92 Camry, my brake switch had gone bad. We had not noticed the rear light out, but I had extreme problems shifting out of park to either drive or reverse. Once the switch was replaced, smooth sailing! The car was not sensing that the brake was depressed to release the gearshift button.

There is usually a tag on the axel with the info you need. If all else fails call your local GM dealer or 4x4 shop.

I own a 1984 F150 XLT with a 351w (5.8 liter) and a 4V Holley carb. I 'just' had the differential rebuilt and the Ring & Pinion gear ratio that was in there was 3.0. It is a 9" Ford differential (stock). I had it replaced (it was worn anyway) with 2.75 ratio for better highway driving.

I am not sure about the HP, though. My truck is wholly stock and I have been giving it a 'rolling restoration' since my late brother passed away in 2006 (I inherited it from him).

clutches can cost aneware from $300 to aprox $3500 dependinging on wether you want new oem or remanufactured oem or aftermarket so go to your locar parts store and price it out and install time depends on if you now what u doin or not

chock wheels on vehicle u will need a good heavy duty air gun or a good solid socket with breaker bar now get under vehicle, remove rear U-Joint and lower drive shaft out of the way. next with a snug fitting socket remove the large nut , (pinion nut) that was hidden by the u-joint. then with a hammer knock the pinion yoke off remove bearing. replace with new bearing NOTE: check yoke for wear, you may need to use a speedy sleeve to repair damage. if it looks good you won't.

replace yoke replace washer and pinion nut, (always use a new pinion nut) tighten to specified torque replace drive shaft and U-JOINT, (now is a good time to put new u-joint in while you have it apart) finished

Gear b would rotate: 100 times the number of teeth in gear a divided by the number of teeth in gear b.

Turn the drive gear 1 complete turn, and count how many times the driven gear turns. For example, to figure out the rear end gear ratio if the drive shaft turns once and the rear turns 3 and a half times you have a 1:3.5 gear ratio. This means the rear wheels turn 3.5 times for each one turn of the drive shaft.

If your 1997 Chevy diesel will not shift into overdrive, you might have an issue with a transmission sensor. Some of these vehicles have several sensors that must engage in order to shift.

Ok. Two things here. 2000 was the change up year for Chevy Silverado/Tahoe. If it looks like an 01, 02, and newer, then no. If it looks like your 98, then maybe. If botht rucks look the same, then go to the glove box, and open it. Two numbers you need to check here. G-80, is the code for positraction. If one says G-80, it has it. If one does not, then consider the modification, however it turns out. Next, go to the GT, number. They both should be GT-3, which is 3:73, ratio, which they both will likely be. GT-4, is 4:10's, which would be so if it were a heavy duty model. GT-2, was 3:53 ratio. Again, consider any differences, if any. Then, yes, it will bolt right in.

In this particular sinerio , you would calculate the unit rate.To do so you simply divide 40 by 4 (10), then divide 10 by 4 as well. Therefor a gear with 10 teeth turns with 2.5 rpms.

Passenger side of the diff, there are 2 ribs or fins. The fill plug is a 3/8 square drive under 13 year build up of stiff grease and dirt. It's there.

That will depend on how the vehicle is used and what the manufacture recommends.

It could be as soon as every 20,000 miles or as long as 100,000+

You can not see it, it is part of the transmission assembly. Unless it is a rear wheel drive car.
