I am in no way a pro at this or even sure about this, but I have a 98 Metro LSI, and have had problems with my car starting because it doesnt alway recognize that the clutch is in. I believe that is what you are asking about. If you look near the top of Clutch peddle you will find a couple of wires that go to the switch and these on my car come loose and sometimes have a bad connection. Since you have to get under the steering wheel it is not the easiest access area, but there are no panels to remove so you should be able to trace the wires to the switch if it isn't the switch that is connected to the top of the clutch. I am not exactly sure on the 1990 model, but on 93-97 it is located on the transmission next to the firewall aprox 20 inches below the brake master cylinder. Remove the air cleaner, there is a diagonally positioned bracket w/ 2ea. 10mm bolts and a ground wire that must removed for access. It is held on by a 10mm bolt which is easily removed with a 24" extension and 10mm socket. The VSS is difficult to see and will need to be rotated w/ tools and a wire lasso to provide vertical lift. The removal process can take several hours and a great deal of patience.

You have a vacuume hose leak. 3 small lines come out the front of the firewall near the middle, more to the drivers side. Follow them and look for leaks or cracks.

Many people misunderstand and think that the gauge is an indication of the conditon of the oil pump, but the simple reality is, oil pumps seldom fail and seldom wear enough to significantly lower the oil pressure. The oil pressure gauge is NOT a way to determine when you're low on oil. If that's your method, you're destroying the engine.
