Where is the oil sending unit on a 2003 dodge stratus?

The oil sending unit on a 2003 Dodge Stratus is located on the side of the oil pan. It is under the heat shield.

97 Dodge Stratus code p0610. Engine stalls after it reaches operating temp. Does it all speeds. Will die but restarts immediately.?

P0610 Control Module Vehicle Options Incorrect PCMs typically fail for one of two reasons: voltage overloads (often due to a short in a solenoid or actuator circuit) or environmental factors (corrosion, thermal stress or vibration). If the shorted solenoid or actuator is not found and repaired, the voltage overload it creates may damage the replacement PCM, too. As for environmental factors, water is the main thing to avoid. If water gets inside a PCM, it can short circuits and set up irreversible corrosion that ruins electronic connections. Most remanufacturers will not even attempt to repair a PCM if the vehicle it came out of was submerged in a flood. Replacement is the only option. Thermal stress and vibration can form microcracks in circuit boards (which are repairable). This often has more to due with the ruggedness of the circuit design than operation factors in the vehicle itself. Because a powertrain control module can be very expensive to replace, almost all aftermarket replacement PCMs are "remanufactured" units. A PCM is not rebuilt in the same way that an alternator or water pump is rebuilt because there are no mechanical parts that wear out. Remanufacturing in this case usually means testing the powertrain control module, isolating and repairing any faults that may be found, then retesting the powert5ain control module to make sure everything works correctly. A remanufactured PCM is typically sold one of two ways: on an exchange basis from stock, or on a custom rebuild basis. If a particular PCM is not in stock or is unavailable, you may be able to send an old PCM to a remanufacturer for repair. Turn around time is typically a few days and the cost is about the same as an exchange unit except there is no core charge). The hard part is finding a remanufacturer who can test and repair your powertrain control module. Hope this helps, from website.

Which car is faster the Dodge Stratus RT or the Pontiac GTP?

Take it from someone who owns both: 1999 GTP and 2001 RT

The R/T has no where near the amount of acceleration the GTP has. This is not even debatable.

I love both, but speed wise? The GTP by a land slide.

AnswerGTP for sure.

Fastest R/T in DragTimes database is 15.6 sec. 1/4 mile, and the slowest GTP is 15.4 sec.

Answeri just recently purchased a 03 RT (5spd), and i traded in a 97 supercharged 3.8l Buick (same exact set up as the gtp) and i think the rt is faster and alot funner. AnswerThe gtp is faster due to the fact that it has a power adder (supercharger) and the stratus does not. Answerthe GTP is alot faster it has a supercharger on it and is getting 240 horsepower stock. Answerchryslers break faster then any other car on the road, so i wouldn't suggest racing or anything that might strain the engine, even daily driving. from my experience with there products just about everything is of low quality...transmissions, engines, paint, and the entire fit and finish. i have seen a dodge ram go through 3 transmissions, 2 driveshafts, all sorts of interior finish problems all in 30,000 miles...the list goes on.

-EDIT- Generally, the Stratus R/T may be using the 3.0 liter engine. This engine and transmission combo is made by Mitsubishi and is the same on the Mitsubishi Eclipse of the same year. It is NOT a Mopar engine and doesn't tend to break like one.

--EDIT: Only the 2.7 has major mechanical issues (Sludge). The 3.5L, 5.7 and 6.1 are fine.

AnswerThe new gtp has 260 hp and will easily beat the rt Answergtp for sure

Is it difficult to replace the front shocks on a 1998 Dodge Stratus?

It doesn't have shocks, it has struts. Yes it is a very difficult and possibly dangerous job, that is best left up to the experts.

the "DUD: that left the reply up here needs to be banned.

improved error here:

not really a difficult task. time TOOLS and a little know HOW.

TIME about 1-2 hours depending on your tools ans expertise( along with your garage set up.)

TOOLS.. tire remover, standard sockets and wrenches, and spring compressors.

how to:

1. jack car and open hood.

2. remove tire.

3. under hood "loosen" the NUT holding the top of the strut.

4. remove the nuts/ bolts holding the bottom of the strut.

styles differ here, so the description is vague. SORRY.

(could also be a structure to remove)

5. remove the assembly from the car.

6. apply the spring compressors to the spring and compress evenly.

7. finish removing the NUT loosened in step 3, remove the strut from the center of the coil spring.

order the pieces for reconstruction, for later

8. make NOTE of the location of the pieces, sometimes there is a particular direction the parts need to be in for best results.. ( see 99 grand am)

9. re assemble in reverse order, with exception to the NUT. feel free to snug it up as tight as possible during "exterior" assembly.

10, now that you have re assembled the shock/ coil spring/ and top half of the parts and dust cover. put it back in the car and finish assembly.

11. double check your work.

12. attache your tire and remove JACK. torque your wheel to correct foot pounds. about 100.

SEE YA.

95 dodge stratus v6 2.5 ltr where is the crank position sensor located?

on the 1998 the camshaft sensor is in the distributor ,you have to change it....you have to change the whole distributor..the sensor is integrated.

the crankshaft sensor is located on the block under the cruise control actuator

What does the diagnostic code P0129 mean?

It means barometric pressure out of range.

Could be caused by:

  • Bad vacuum line or connection between intake and sensor
  • Bad sensor
  • Bad connector or wire between sensor and computer
  • a plugged air filter
  • A plugged exhaust system
  • An engine that runs poorly enough to send this sensor out of range.

The sensor has an "allowable range" that it can be at for a running engine at certain throttle and loads. If it gets out of this range it will set the code

Change belt stratus 2.5L v6?

The belt on a Dodge Stratus 2. 5L V6 is changed by loosening the belt tensioner and slipping the belt off the pulley. It can then be taken off the engine accessories and a new belt installed.

How do you change a radiator on a dodge stratus?

you will have to support engine for this i have found...next drain your coolant and undue hoses. remove font engine mount that is located near the trans and in front of starter...should look like a big circle...then loosen and remove the ac pump but do not remove the ac lines as this will evacuate the system and do so in a hurry....then there will be 2-3 holes in the upper core support leading to the upper radiator retaining mounts...remove the bolt and you should see the radiator "lean" forward making it accessible......depending on year or originality of the vehicle you will have transmission line to remove, if not then you can now lift out the radiator.

What does no bus mean on a 98 dodge stratus?

Often when a Chrysler Corp. vehicle has a dead battery or the battery is disconnected, the computer will loose it's configuration. When that happens it will display the "no bus" message.

You may need to take it to the dealer to have the computer re-configured unless you have a smart friend who can do it for you..

Ac compressor pressure 1999 stratus?

Depends on ambient temperature - need a chart

How do you reset the airbag light on a 2004 Dodge Stratus?

TAke it to the dealer. They will have to find out what turned it on in the first place. The bag will not work with the light on.

Where is the thermostat on a Dodge Stratus 2.7 liter?

It is under the housing where the lower radiator hose hooks onto the engine.

The thermostat housing is located at the end of the lower radiator hose where it attaches to the engine block.

The following instructions come from Hanes Repair Manual #25040 for the replacement of a thermostat on the 2.7 L engine:

1. Raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Remove the right front wheel. Remove the accessory drivebelt splash shield.

2. Remove the accessory drivebelt that goes around the alternator.

3. Remove the lower alternator mounting bolt.

4. Lower the vehicle.

5. Disconnect the alternator electrical connectors.

6. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the air conditioning compressor.

7. Remove the oil dipstick and the dipstick tube. Plug the hole in the oil pan with a clean shop rag to prevent debris from entering the pan. (It may be possible to remove the alternator without removing the dipstick tube. I was able to get the alternator past the dipstick tube without removing it.)

8. Remove the rest of the alternator mounting bolts and then remove the alternator.

9. Loosen the hose clamps and then disconnect the two hoses from the thermostat housing cover. (You might not have to disconnect the hoses, but it made it easier for me to find the lower bolt hole in the thermostat housing with the hoses out of the way when it was time to try to bolt the thermostat housing back in place.)

10. Remove the thermostat housing cover bolts (3) and then remove the housing. (I had to loosen the bolts on the air conditioning compressor and let the compressor drop about an inch to get access to the lower bolt in the thermostat housing.)

11. Note how the thermostat is installed, with the "jiggle valve" at the 12 o'clock position, and then remove the thermostat.

12. Remove all traces of sealant from the housing and cover with a gasket scraper.

13. Install the thermostat housing cover and then tighten the bolts to the correct torque.

14. Reattach the hoses to the thermostat housing cover. Make sure that the hose clamps are still tight.

15. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of the removal.

16. When you're done, refill the cooling system. (You have to open a bleeder valve where the upper radiator hose attaches to the engine to let air out of the system so that antifreeze can be added.)

17. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature, then check for leaks and proper thermostat operation.

(Took me over a day to get this done because the thermostat is in such a hard place to get to. Not a difficult task, but it takes a lot of time removing components so that you can get access to the thermostat housing).

How many miles per gallon will a dodge stratus go?

not sure what the question is...but my 2001 stratus r/t 3.0 liter engine gets about 18 miles per gallon in the city and around 25 miles per gallon on hiway

i looked online and it said the gas tank is about 16 gallons so if i had a full tank i could go around... 18milesX16gallons=288 miles of just city driving or

25miles x 16gallons=400 miles of all freeway driving before i ran out of gas

You fixed your water pump the engine light stays on The car will start but it will die at idle It will run good in motion but as soon you let go of the gas it dies?

I would assume this is a Stratus, and that the battery had been disconnected during water pump replacement.

1. Disconnect the battery again for 30 seconds.

2. Reconnect battery.

3. Turn key to "run" position, (not start), for 5 seconds.

4. Start car.

5.. Idle relearn should be complete.

How can you get the fan off a 1997 dodge Dakota to get water pump off?

You can get a special loaner tool from Autozone that spans the nuts mention below. Even with the tool, it is still very hard. It took me over 8 hours just to get the fan off of mine.

AnswerI usually get good results using a BIG screwdriver or a crowbar, and sticking it between two of the nuts to help keep the fan from moving, Its just takes a little playing around with answertake a piece of 1/4 flat steel. aprox. 1 inch wide, 12 to 16 inches long... drill a hole in it, a half inch from the end, make the hole the same diameter as the bolt size of the fan... remove a fan bolt and attach the flat steel bar to the fan, by using the bolt... use it as a wedge on the other fan bolts head to keep the fan from turning... take an 1 1/2 inch wrench or a hammer and chisel to "pop" the large nut loose answerI took some wire I had and went through the/a hole in the water pump pulley and up around a bolt sticking out, did that about 4 times, then wrapped some of it around the center for some re-inforcement. This held that still while I used a large channel Lock to remove the fan. I used needle nose pliers to maneuver the wire out from behind the pulley. AnswerI found a way to do this job in just a couple of minutes, and very easily. My Dakota is a '98 but I expect any of the 2nd generation Dakotas with the 3.9 would work this same way. You will need two tools: a large rubber strap wrench (mine is a Sears / Craftsman) and either a wrench or very large channel locks pliers to grab the fan nut. Just FYI, the fan nut rotates counterclockwise, the normal direction, to loosen it. The threads are not reversed.

1. Take the serpentine belt off the engine.

2. Put the rubber strap wrench around the water pump pulley. (I don't know if it matters which way you attach it but if it doesn't work the first way, it will work the other way.) With the strap wrench on the pulley, turn the pulley counterclockwise until the strap wrench bumps into the crankshaft pulley. Now the pulley can't turn any further.

3. Stand by the passenger side fender and put the wrench or channel locks on the fan nut and pull towards you. The strap wrench will keep the pulley from turning and you can gently pull on the wrench a little harder each time until the nut breaks free. I think it took me about three little pulls. After reading what a nightmare job this would be I was more than a bit pleased to find an easy way to do it.

If you have to get a strap wrench, they aren't that expensive and are good to have anyhow. Believe me, you'd be better off to do this approach from the start than to spend hours and hours fighting this issue any other way I've read.
