If you got a burn from your curling iron - and got a rash after applying hydrocortisone cream - what can you do to heal it?

Gently wash the burn clean with tepid, soapy water. If the skin isn't broken, just let it air-dry, then loosely bandage to keep the area clean. If the rash hasn't disappeared -- or is not greatly reduced -- in about 12 hours, consider using an antimicrobial cream or ointment, like NeoSporin. Once more, if the problem persists 12 more hours with no improvement, time to see a doctor. Steroids tend to reduce immune reaction, so they sometimes promote infection. That's one possibility; the other is you had an allergic reaction to the hydrocortisone cream. Removing it should help considerably.

Is it a problem if you have been obulating for 2 weeks after you got your peiord and now have a little blood coming out too?

What medicine was in the personal first aid kit in World War 1?

Each British (and Empire) soldier carried a First Field dressing and an iodine ampoule in a special pocket on the inside of his jacket (at the bottom). For the contents of the Medical first aid kits, surgical haversacks and medical panniers, consult a copy of the War Office (1904) Manual for the Royal Army Medical Corps that illustrates the various items and lists the contents.

If a ring gets stuck on your finger how do you get it of?

wet your hand and apply lot of soap on your finger.

the ring will slip through your finger due to the soap.

The best way to get a ring off is to use Windex glass cleaner. Spray it on the finger around the ring and knuckle and just twist it back and forth while working it down and over the knuckle. Works every time. This is great if you have arthritic knuckles that tend to swell but you never know when.

What does the red baron cross mean?

It's not called the Red Baron Cross, it's known as the "Iron Cross". It is a symbol of German superiority. It's less offensive then the swastika, and usually worn by people who do not understand it's meaning. Manfred Von Richthofen (known as the Red Baron) had this cross on his aeroplane, as did every other German pilot. The reason for this was too tell who was who in the sky. Each nation had their symbols, and were painted on the tall, fuselage and wings.

What are the reasons for applying a sterile dressing?

You want sterile dressing for open wounds. If you put a dirty dressing on an open wound, you are increasing the likelihood for infections and diseases. But if all that you have is a ripped t-shirt to put on a wound, that is definitely better than nothing at all.

What are the affects if bitten by a centipede?

Generally speaking, centipede bites are painful, last about two days (not counting the wound healing), and are almost never fatal. There are four major classes of centipede. All are poisonous, with legs that modified into mandidles/injectors. The degree of danger depends on the size of the centipede (the bigger, the more venom), and the size of the victim (kids, being smaller, get hurt more with the same dose). The toxin mechanism is, as with most arthoropods, varied, complex, and combines offensive and defensive properties. The offensive toxins shut down the heart (but again, not often in animals as big as humans). The defensive toxins cause extreme pain. Typically, the bite causes intense pain and sensitivity at the wound sight, followed by sharp pains elsewhere, some cardiac and breathing effects, and an odd muscular sensation people described as a "sprained sensation". Treatment is injections of antihistimes (diphenhydramine), and treatment for pain, which can be moderate or extreme (up to requiring morphine). As neurotoxins often induce panic, diazepam and it's like are sometimes used. Typically, the pain peaks in 2 or so hours, and gradually decreases, until the victim is asymptomatic in 2 days time, except for the wound. It is not uncommon for the tissue surrounding the wound to die and become necrotic but, unlike this effect with Brown Recluse spider bites, in this case the necrotic tissue sloughs safely in 2 weeks or so, and does not progress. Newer thinking is that many of the injected toxins are heat labile. This means that immersing the extremity in the hottest water the patient can stand WITHOUT SCALDING OR OTHER DAMAGE may considerably reduce effect and duration. Effectively this is rather like cooking an egg white; it changes a lot when heated. I do want to emphasize that centipede stings are extremely rarely fatal in humans. Pain control is going to be a lot of how first aid will be addressed.

Pioneers of northern Mexico and of the southwestern United States of America tried to ease cactus thorns out or remove them by force. They applied poultices to encourage the thorns to work their way out of the skin. Or they soaked the affected parts, for the same reason. Or they tried to remove them with heated, sterilized needles.

What is the diagnosis if your sister choked stopped breathing for 20 minutes and is in the ICU with a ventilator?

I am so sorry to hear about your sister and hope she is getting better. We are not doctors on this site and we don't have enough information to give you the answers you are looking for. There could be many reasons why your sister choked, stopped breathing and is on a ventilator. Please speak with her doctor and tell him/her you need to understand what is happening to your sister. Be persistent! You have a right to know what is going on. if your parents are involved in this they must have more information so sit down and talk with them first. If your sister is not married, you don't have parents and you aren't a minor, since your sister can't speak for yourself you should seek legal advice and get Power of Attorney over your sister so you have a say in what the best treatments are available for her.

How can you heal a motorcycle burn as quick as possible?

Second-degree burn

When the first layer of skin has been burned through and the second layer of skin (dermis) also is burned, the injury is called a second-degree burn. Blisters develop and the skin takes on an intensely reddened, splotchy appearance. Second-degree burns produce severe pain and swelling. If the second-degree burn is no larger than 3 inches (7.5 centimeters) in diameter, treat it as a minor burn. If the burned area is larger or if the burn is on the hands, feet, face, groin or buttocks, or over a major joint, treat it as a major burn and get medical help immediately. For minor burns, including first-degree burns and second-degree burns limited to an area no larger than 3 inches (7.5 centimeters) in diameter, take the following action: * Cool the burn. Hold the burned area under cold running water for at least five minutes, or until the pain subsides. If this is impractical, immerse the burn in cold water or cool it with cold compresses. Cooling the burn reduces swelling by conducting heat away from the skin. Don't put ice on the burn. * Cover the burn with a sterile gauze bandage. Don't use fluffy cotton, which may irritate the skin. Wrap the gauze loosely to avoid putting pressure on burned skin. Bandaging keeps air off the burned skin, reduces pain and protects blistered skin. * Take an over-the-counter pain reliever. These include aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others), naproxen (Aleve) or acetaminophen (Tylenol, others). Never give aspirin to children or teenagers. Minor burns usually heal without further treatment. They may heal with pigment changes, meaning the healed area may be a different color from the surrounding skin. Watch for signs of infection, such as increased pain, redness, fever, swelling or oozing. If infection develops, seek medical help. Avoid re-injuring or tanning if the burns are less than a year old - doing so may cause more extensive pigmentation changes. Use sunscreen on the area for at least a year.

What are the chances after getting bit by a cobra you'd live without antidote?

Actually very good. It's very hard to get accurate statistics, because villagers in rural India will frequently go to the local healer instead of a doctor, not receive the antivenin, and will only report to medical authorities after complications occur. That said, it's estimated that the mortality rate from cobra bites is around 10%. Note that other complications are much more frequent than death.
