What are some causes for water to seep up through the grout in between tiles on a tiled floor?

Water seeping up through the grout in between tiles on a tiled floor can be caused by several factors, including:

Cracked Grout: If the grout between the tiles is cracked, water can seep through the cracks and reach the subfloor.

Loose or Damaged Tiles: Tiles that are loose or damaged can allow water to seep through the gaps and reach the subfloor.

Poorly Installed Tiles: If tiles were not installed correctly, with inadequate adhesive or a poorly leveled surface, water can seep through the gaps and reach the subfloor.

High Water Table: If the area where the tiled floor is installed has a high water table, water can seep up through the grout.

Plumbing Issues: A leak in the plumbing system, such as a damaged pipe or loose fitting, can cause water to seep up through the grout.

Flooding: If the area where the tiled floor is installed experiences flooding, water can seep up through the grout and reach the subfloor.

If a roll of wallpaper is 20.5' wide and 11 yards long how much is needed for a 12.0'X5' room?

We can't tell without the 3rd dimension of the room.

The area of the 4 walls is [ two (length x height) + two (width x height) ],

so we need to know the length, width, and height.

(Of course, we'll also have to subtract out the area of the doors and windows,

but that's minor.)

What is the best way to paint over a hard wood floor?

With a tin of paint and a brush or roller. First, be sure all of the old finish has been removed. Then prime and paint with paint specifically prepared for floors. Please note that painting a hard wood floor usually decreases the value of the property. Consider refinishing instead. Older floors were made with fairly thick boards, so they can hold up to several strippings and refinishings.

How do you fix a spongy floor on a boat?

I assume it is a wooden boat/floor .... odd location for this question .... but whatever! If the floor is part of the boats hull, then take the boat out of the water ... allow it to dry completely. Check the wood with a knife/screwdriver etc.. to see if it is rotted/flaky. If so, replace the wood. If no, you can fiberglass the wood on the underside and give it a weatherproof coating on the topside. There is a dampness issue so check the balance of the hull for any concentrations of dampness that need attention. Added comment- Above answer is good, but to clarify if floor is spongy you must remove & replace old plywood deck, usually in entirety but some have successfully spliced in only a part. All is better because you know what you have underneath that way. Check stringers below deck, if rotted or softened much you must replace or boat will be unsafe. Check transom, if it is wet or has rot you'll have a far larger project than just the deck to contend with. Remove old flotation foam if present because it will be saturated with water if the deck has this problem. If any white fungus is present paint with antifreeze to kill it, then wait a few weeks before waterproofing wood with the same polyester resin/hardener you'll use to seal both sides of the deck plywood & use for glassing in stringers & deck top surface. Use stainless steel wood screws when attaching new deck to stringers, then glass the surface after that. There are a number of good web pages boat owners have chronicled their deck repairs in, worth looking at.

What is the best way to replace a floor that is completely rusted on a 1992 Geo Tracker?

I think you've just about had your money's worth out of that little feller. Replace all that floor pan and you're going to find the crossmembers are rotted, so it will fail inspection anyway. And just how many miles do you expect to squeeze out of that little 3 cylinder engine after you've done it all?

Well,it's a FOUR cylinder, and thefloor can be replaced,i replaced mine from yhe firewall to the back door, and the rockerpanels, don't give up.Of course I did all the work myself,if I had to pay someone I would have got another one and kept T2 for parts.

You have a heater core leaking. Check your fluid level on your radiator. It should be a little low. They are not the most fun thing to replace.

How do you get rid of the alkaline deposits on your concrete basement floor?

Those "Alkaline deposits" on the floor is more than likely "Efflorescence". The white crystalline deposits on a concrete surface is a result of moisture carrying internal chemistry of the concrete up and out to a surfaces where they react with the atmosphere. Very common on a concrete slab poured on an earthen surface. Moisture below the slab wicks up into the concrete seeking the lower humidity in a dehumidified home interior. This moisture brings alkali and other chemicals out of the concrete interior with it.

I can think of commercially available products to remove surface contaminates, just be certain they don't create other problems for you. I use a product designed specifically for Efflorescence Removal!

The KEY is; after the surface is free of deposits, the slab needs a penetrating sealer applied to waterproof it and avoid future chemical and water vapor emissions from coming to the surface again. I use a Low VOC product for occupied spaces that penetrates into the capillary system of a concrete, where it forms a solid "Inside" the concrete to waterproof and keep moisture from migrating out to a surface. Moisture in quantity may also condense under a tile, floor coverings and carpet padding causing mold problems and delamination of a flooring product. Vapor barriers or external coatings to a concrete are known to fail. Very simple to waterproof a concrete and stop moisture transfer from within!! That's how you get rid of your problems once and for all..
