Use the exact weight oil in your engine as is listed in your owners manual. Most major brands are good. I use Pennzoil and have for over 30 years. Never had an internal engine problem. Also use a good oil filter. Purolator & Wix are a good choice.

Several things could cause this. Some of the possibilities are; contaminated or old fuel, no ignition (spark) or ignition timing incorrect, incorrect cam timing, problems in the fuel management or delivery system (fuel pump not working or low pressure, fuel filter clogged, bad control computer or wiring, bad injector(s) or wiring, very low or no compression, ect)

you set the base time , now you need to set the static timing.(ignition time) perhaps in the process you disconected a spark plug wire and re attached it in the wrong spot. or when you set the base timing you put the #1 piston on a exhaust stroke rather than the compression stroke. if it was put in exhaust stroke the car is never going to fire up. there could also be other reasons. bad plugs,bad ignition module,bad coil. loose plug wires,bad distributor cap.ect.

if you are talking about the inertia switch, it is located on the passenger side cargo area. there is a panel over the wheel well. open this and you will see what looks like a solenoid valve with a plunger on top. this switch can be activated by even a good bump. if the plunger looks as if it is up press back down and try starting the engine. hope this helps.

I would start by checking the fuel filter and fuel pump

Should be closest to the passenger side front wheel

there is no drive shaft it's front wheel drive

5W30 is recommended for all temperature ranges

the bendix gear on the starter is stuck on the flywheel remove starter check bendix gear for wear if worn to bad replace starter

If the timing belt is not tensioned correctly it will "walk" back and forth on the cogs and idlers. It is probably walking out to the upper mount and binding on it, snapping the bolt.

2.0l I am guessing. Drivers side front. You will see a long plastic hose coming from the top of the intake down to right near the exhaust manifold(front of engine). It is either in the middle of the hose(the housing will be marked PCV valve) or it will be at the end of it. Stock ford PCV valved are plastic...so don't just look for something metal.

check timing belt, should be under plasic cover on passenger side, i had a small sensor tensioner pulley or something like that next to my crankshaft pulley lock up and the friction burned my belt til it broke, luckily i had no internal damage, hope you were as well, definitely wouldn't try turning it over til you checked, could cause serious engine damage

Take a 3/8 breaker bar and stick it in the 3/8 square hole on the belt tensioner. Pull counterclockwise and detension belt. Remove belt and replace. Super easy takes about 10 minutes.

Loosen the tensioner bolt, let the spring loaded tensioner contact the belt. Then tight the tensioner bolt.

Unhook the battery for about an hour then reconnect it and drive it for about 20 minues.

The speed sensor is on the top of the tansaxle. The speedometer driver gear and speed sensor is combined as one unit in the tranny. Be careful pulling it out. Others have done so and dropped the drive gear down into the wells of the transmission effectively keeping the shift levers from operating. You will probably have to take the battery and box out to get to it. You may also have to take the intake tunnel out.

Its easy Pull the wheel off you will see a center nut undo it and pull it off repace

It is non-interference. I think some mechanics say it is an interference type because one of the major repair manuals incorrectly states that it is interference, it is not...

the wall behind the engine

I bought a 2001 Focus 2.0 SOHC vin P for my daughter with a trashed cylinder head and block. The blocks are slightly different but will work. One of the water pump bolt holes is different and the side of the engine towards the firewall don't have the mounting for the Focus carrier bearing on the Escort block. A bracket support must be fabricated for the carrier bearing of the right drive axle. The Escort crankcase vent must covered since the Focus block is also blank. Focus water pump to Escort block will work you just need to drill one extra hole top left of the block. I found out the cylinder heads doesn't interchange but are both SPIs, head manifold bolt patterns are different. Also the engine mount is connected to the head and also will not work vice versa. The engine to tranny matches perfectly. I used a 98 Escort block to 2001 Focus and the car runs great with these modifications. I just have to keep an eye on the cooling system. As I've read on the internet, overheating is why the valve seats falls off and why I end up with this project.

What you are doing is both illegal and ill-advised. The engines do NOT interchange, since they don't have the same mounting points. It is illegal to install an older engine in a newer car per EPA regulations, as well as an engine that was never installed in a regulated vehicle. In many states this is an automatic emissions fail. Fabricating bearing and engine mounts is not something that should be tackled by an amateur mechanic.

I think that after you put on the timing belt alighned properly,that your distrib. makes up the diff. when you adjust it. Jim

Near the front driver side headlight is a cone looking black piece that reads "air cleaner". You should be able to just loosen the black metal strap wrapped around it and pull the two pieces apart (air cleaner cover and filter held on to oxygen sensor area). If not then loosen the 3 bolts that hold the "air cleaner" piece down and then loosen and remove the metal strap. It's a cone filter that you twist lightly to loosen. Remove and replace with a new one (or a performance filter) Put the black metal strap back on and if need the 3 bolts and all is done.

located under dash, behind fuse panel. Looks a little different than normal. A plastic box, blue or yellow with two leads attached. About an $80 part. Dealer item. Probably have to order it.
