How do you replace 1999 Chevrolet Suburban rear door check strap?
Very easy process should take you less than 20 minutes. First buy a replacement check strap from your place of choice (GM Dealer, Ebay, or RockAuto.com.
Make sure you memorize or take a picture of the assembly as-is before you take it apart! Be certain you know the direction of the
Remove the Circlip.
Locate the "Circlip" (possibly called a C-Clip as well) that is seated horizontally in a slot/channel encircling the very bottom of the pin. Using a standard (slotted/non Philip's head) screw driver, push the screwdriver into one of the slots in the center of the circlip near the wall of the pin. Carefully (while maintaining upward pressure on the screwdriver) pull the clip back towards you. It might take a few tries, as the circlip has built in tension to keep it from sliding off, but with a little work you should be able to slide the clip out of its channel. Be sure to catch the pin and put it aside for now (don't lose it).
Remove the pin.
Using the same screw driver as above push the screw driver under the top head of the pin and the top framing. Carefully pull/pry the pin straight up. Once you get it lifted a bit you can either continue to pull the pin up utilizing the screw driver or grab a pair of pliers and remove the entire pin. If the pin is really stuck for some reason - if you can get it up enough to put an adjustable wrench or pliers underneath the head of the pin's lip you can gently hammer the wrench/pliers up, which should help in extracting the pin.
Once the pin is removed the check strap should come completely off.
Take the spring off the of the old check strap and then the plastic sleeve/washer. Now replace the sleeve/washer on the new check strap. Make sure you have the sleeve/washer and check strap oriented the same way as it came off.
Now you are ready to install the new check strap.
This can be just a little tricky as you will need to put the spring around the plastic sleeve and using a little pressure line up the hole in the sleeve with the top hole of the check strap framing. When you have those two holes line up you will then need to push the pin down though the top of the frame and through the sleeve and then through the bottom framing rail. You may need to lightly tap this in with a hammer and it may not be a bad idea to spray the whole thing down with a silicone lubricant to have the pin slide though everything easier. Also be careful not to damage the plastic sleeve while pushing the pin through.
Once you have the pin completely situated you will need to push the circlip back into place. I have found using a pair of needle nose pliers does this job pretty well, but if you are careful you can probably just use the screw driver to push it back on.
How do you repair a steering wheel that has about 2 inches of play on a 99 Suburban?
start by checking your front end for wear in the tierods and all other linkage. the I would suspect your steering box is shot.
I'd suggest checking your fuses. My 1999 GMC burban has multiple fuses for different sets of lights. If they are the same I'd start by checking fuse: 9 - 20A Park Lamps. That should be for your License Lamp, Parking Lamps, Taillamps, Roof Marker Lamps, Tailgate Lamps, Front Sidemarkers, Fog Lamp Relay, Door Switch Illumination, Fender Lamps, Headlamp Illumination. It might worth chekcing fuses 1 & 3 as well since these also cover some of the illumination/lap accessories. I'd look in the index of your manual to get a detailed description of what your fuses are as well. I'm assuming the fuse configuration is the same as my 99 since they body styles would be the same. Good Luck.
How do I you tell if catalytic converter needs repair?
If catalytic converter is bolted on you can check them by taking them off and checking for cracks in the passage ways, if it is welded or you don't want to take them off to check you can take a drill and make two small wholes; one in front and one behind the CAT (be sure not to drill in the CAT, but in the pipes in front and behind it) get a pressure gage designed for such a job, [while the vehicle is running] check pressure of both holes, if the rear hole has a considerably lower pressure reading than the front reading then you know that the passage way is being blocked, you will see that the pressure in the front hole will be considerably greater this is because the gases are building (one or two psi difference isn't bad 5 or more lbs difference you might consider taking to a local muffler shop who can hook you up with a universal CAT!)
Will a 90 suburban front clip fit a 94 suburban?
With some fabrication, you could make it fit; but completely stock it won't. Even if it did, the body styles are different. Keep in mind that the body style of the suburbans were the same from 82' all the way to 1991, then they switched to the GMT400 that lasted to 2000. The GMT400's front clip is slightly angled for a more 'aerodynamic' look, while a 1990 Suburban's front clip is completely straight.

How do you change the power steering hoses on a 1995 gmc k1500 suburban 4x4?
Having just changed the pressure side hose on my 1996 Suburban it's actually pretty simple. First you'll need a 5/8 and an 11/16 combination or end wrench. Loosen the fittings to the steering box with the 11/16 from the top of the vehicle. Then climb under, you can reach the fittings on the back of the pump by sliding your hand up past the front differential but you'll find it's easier to see what you are doing if you remove the differential skidplate (4 bolts, 9/16 I think, I was too lazy to remove mine...) It's best to attach the hoses in the following sequence. Return line to pump, Pressure line to pump, Pressure line to steering box, return line to steering box. (The return line has small clamps, approx 1/4" wide, from the metal line to the rubber, while the pressure line has hydraulic crimps about 1" long.) Don't forget to put new o-rings on the line ends (They should come with the new hoses...) Good luck.

What is the spanner with 1000 through it on Vectra?
Its just a reminder that the car is due a service. The light comes on after every 10, 15k.
Sometimes when the "Service Engine Soon" light comes on, depending on the problem the computer will go into "Limp Mode" which are factory settings for different sensors. This also changes your shift settings. Limp Mode will allow the vehicle to continue on its way but will run bad enough to make you get it fixed. The trouble codes should be stored. When retrieved may lead you to the main problem. When problem is fixed clear all trouble codes. ______________________________________________________ Update 7/7/08: I'd also suggest getting your transmission looked at. Sometimes when the "Service Engine Soon" light comes on and you feel a difference in how the transmission is shifting it can mean that the computer is detecting slippage in the tranny. It will then crank up oil pressure in response to this. In doing so, the engine can sometimes shift "hard" (thats how my wife described it) which can cause problems in your transmission such as breaking the shell around the gears. If you do get it checked & cleared make sure you right down the codes in case you go you have to get work done later. An experienced mechanic will know if what he is fixing is the problem or the symptom based on error codes. If you don't you could end up fixing the same thing twice.
