What are some inventions of the Babylonians?

The babylonian astronomy was among the most advanced in the ancient world.

The Saros Cycle (a 18 year, 11 days, 8 hour cycle used to predict solar and lunar eclipses) is widely believed to have been discovered by the babylonian astronomers.

Many of the names of astrological signs of the zodiac are claimed to be of babylonian origin, for example:

The sign Leo (Urgulû), for instance, has been identified in babylonian writings from the 16th century BC.

Observations of the Morning Star, Ishtar (actually the planet Venus) had been made since maybe the 23rd century BC, which is also the time when the name of Babylon is first found to be found in historical sources.

Famous Bablyonian Works include the Venus Tablets of Ammisaduqa /16th century BC), the Enuma Anu Enlil (from the 17th or 16th c. BC), and the Mul.Apin (from the 14th-11th c. BC).

Astronomers whose names have been preserved include Nabunarius (c. 580 - 480 BC), Kidinnu (c. 400 - 332 BC), and Berossus (c. 330 - 250 BC), who was both astronomer and historian.

Mathematics was highly complex, and a tablet, named Plimpton 322, reveal that the Babylonians may very well have known Pythagoras Theorem more than a thousand years before Pythagoras ever lived.

Glass-making was a respected craft in Babylonia, and many famous buildings, like the Ishtar gate, was made of over 20 000 bricks, covered in shining blue glass, and adorned with artwork in gold and bronze.

Famous buildings in Babylon inlcude: The Esagila (the high temple of the god Marduk), Etemenanki (an enormous ziggurat, or step-pyramid, believed by some to be the Tower of Babel in the Bible), The Hanging Gardens, the Double walls of Babylon, the Processional Way, and The Ishtar Gate, which was one of maybe as many as a dozen gates.

At the peak of its size, Babylon may have been three times the size of what ancient Athens had at her peak.

What is the current situation in Tibet?

Many people were cheated by one and did something irrational, that is the March 14 event all about. - Sorry, not exactly and what kind of answer is this?! It's so vague. It's March 10th, uprising day. The day where the Tibetans fought against the Chinese army stationed in Lhasa back when the 14th Dalai Lama was young.

CommentIn modern world, everyone wants peace and security, violence can do nothing but break them all. Fortunately, It is believed that everything will be all right and Tibet will be reopened to tourism soon.

Word of mouth may not reflect the truth, go and see with your own eyes.

Again a vague answer.

Tibet is full of natural resources. It is also in the middle of Asia. These two factors are why China wants to own Tibet. Tibet, historically has a small population compared to China.

Tibet was sold to China by England behind Tibet's back. There were only two representatives from China living in Lhasa. Tibet won it's independence. In the late 40's, the Chinese government claimed Tibet because of England's agreements and the two reps that had previously lived in Tibet. The truth is, there were pillars marking the boundary of China and Tibet on Tibet's Eastern border for over 700 years. The CHinese army destroyed many of them.

China marched into Tibet killing many people, seizing assets of the rich and plunging Lhasa into extreme famine. The Chinese government wanted to kill Dalai Lama and he fled to India where he now lives.

The genocide didn't stop there. Since the 1950's Tibetans have been tortured and killed by the Chinese government. They have been persecuted for practicing their religion. They can't even put up a picture of Dalai Lama in their homes. Hundreds of thousands of Tibetans have fled to India for religious and physical freedom.

There are numerous human rights reports available for anyone to read and understand the horrific accounts of the Tibetan victims.

Tibetan is a different language from Chinese. Tibet has it's own unique culture and dress. It is nothing like Chinese culture and dress. China continues to assert it's dominance over Tibet.

The truth is, now there are more Chinese in the capital city of Lhasa than there are Tibetans. Go there, live there and see for yourself. Then go to MCleod Ganj in Himachal Pradesh. Go to the Tibet House museum. Talk to my Amala/mother. She was 12 years old when the army marched into Chamdo, in Kham. She will tell you the hell she witnessed and lived through. Talk to my friends about the torture they endured and you will understand why every March 10th, Tibetans protest.

The cool thing is, most Tibetans will say that they don't hate Chinese people. In fact, a lot of Chinese people and Taiwanese people support Tibetans and the Dalai Lama.

What Tibetans don't like is the Chinese government.

What happened in India in the british empire?

lots of things happened for example one of the pros were that india was an english speaking nation which helps today with all the companies setting up call centers there and bringing over scientists and doctors to the USA. But there were many cons too. India wanted independence, and the british treated them like ugly people who can't survive on their own. They were very mean to the Indians. Thanks to Gandhi, the ultimate freedom fighter, India got its freedom, but sadly had to risk Gandhi's life for it.

Why is the population of Asia so high?

It's the center of human civilization.

Genetic evidence (recent around 2000-2003), has shown that Asians have a betaglobin gene (dated around 250,000 BC, out of Africa theory was modern humans migrated around 100,000 BC) that is common among Asians and Aborigine of Australia but European and African ancestry have much fewer of these genes.

Fossil evidence points to Africa as center of modern man (not as many Anthropologists have investigated Asia as much as Africa) but the big questions is ... Why are Asians about 60% of the world population and has been since the beginning of human history? This makes it an obvious answer.

What wars has Mongolia been involved in?

Genghis Khan and his grandson Khubla Khan during the 13th century was the only time that Mongolia fought organized wars. Prior to that time Mongolia was situated similar to that of North America: Different nations consisting of Sioux, Cheyenne, Blackfoot, Apache, Commanche, Mohawk, Blackhawk, etc. All fighting amongst themselves. Had those nations become UNITED under one banner, as Genghis Khan UNITED his Mongols...history would probably not be the way it is today in North America.

After the era of the Khan's, Mongolia remained safely out of reach from outside influence; other than ultimately coming under the sphere of the Soviet Union.

What is qiblah wall?

The Qibla Wall

The Prayer Wall, as it is sometimes called, is one of the most important areas of the mosque. In the photo of Magribija above, it is the wall on the right-hand side.

This wall is very specifically orientated, and that is why mosques often seem misplaced as they face a completely different direction than the other buildings on the same street. It's also why, when you view a Muslim city from the air, all mosques are pointing in the same direction regardless of the countless directions all the other buildings in the city face.

The mosque itself points towards Mecca, and if you picture the direction to Mecca as a straight line - then the Prayer Wall is the wall of the mosque that cuts across the top of it like the top of a letter 'T'. So that wall faces in the direction of Mecca

Did South Vietnam win the war?

Yes, several years after the US pulled out. North Vietnam finally conquered South Vietnam. But they did not defeat the US military! The US in fact destroyed their military, and it took them those several years to rebuild before they were able to defeat the South. In those few years the US pulled out of Vietnam, only leaving forces in some cities, mainly Saigon security forces (which were shown scrambling to leave the city on international news). This is why it looks like the US was running with its tail tucked between its legs, when in fact all major combat units had been gone for some time.

Old monuments should be preserved because they are part of history. They make great teaching tools for the future generations.

What European countries colonized Asia?

Primarily Holland, Portugal and France; for example Vietnam was french territory until their defeat by the vietnemese at the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 (leading to the start of the Vietnam war). Various islands in the pacific are still french and dutch territory (although most were transferred to US control), for example, the Marianas. Britain made inroads into Asia and of course colonised India, and subjugated china (see 'boxer rebellion') but mostly it was the aforementioned three. It should be noted that Asia was a damn sight more capable at resisting colonisation than Africa (only one African country has never been part of a colony, or under European rule/control)

Because Africa was loaded with natural resources and the Europeans wanted to take advantage of that.

Britain, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Greece (in ancient times), Rome (in ancient times). Possibly others.

The US adopted all of the political ideals from the Romans except?
