Why immigration shouldn't be banned?
Because we're full! The U.S. population is already over 300 MILLION. It's not like we have to settle the western frontier! We're already paving over most of the farmland we need to feed all the people currently living here. We're running out of food, land, water, clean air, etc., etc. If we hope to maintain our living standard, we must stop more people from coming here. There is no "right to immigrate". Our resources are finite, and unless we want to turn our country into a densly populated, barren 3rd world nation then we better wake up and stop the inflow now. There just isn't room for any more people. We need to ban ALL legal immigration and put the Marines on our borders (north & south) with authorization to shoot anyone attempting to enter "undocumented". It wouldn't be a massacre; after the first dozen killed, the rest would understand we're serious about controlling our borders. And no, there is NO comparison to the Berlin Wall; they were trying to keep their own citizens in, where as we are keeping outsiders from violating our borders. Anyone who wants to leave (and take a few million others with them) would be more than welcome to. Yes, we are a nation of immigrants- even the natives probably came here from somewhere else. But when my family came to this country in 1682 & 1872 we were still expanding the frontier westward. They were needed to clear the forests and plow the prairie. But now we're full from sea to shining sea. At some point we have to say enough is enough. It's being anti-anybody, it's self-preservation.

How do Mexicans hop the US border with out getting caught?
They get high on cocaine, then they build stilts so they could get to the top of the fence. After that they ask their magical leprechaun friends to sprinkled some magic crap onto the barbed wire, destroying it form the harmful stench. They then jump over it and land in a pile of hay that their friends put out the night before. In conclusion they end up running until they find the Volkswagen bug. They then pile in to every nook and cranny until the get to California were they work hard labor in the orange and lemon fields.

Why does the US make a big deal of Immigration?
The reason it frustrates me, is because, I was born, and raised here. I bust my but in life, and as an "average" 28 year old male trying to go back to school, all my state wanted to give me for help was, $150!! That's it! I'm not saying that I'm entitled to anything. But when I had fresh immigrants in the classes next to me getting everything school/housing related(and I'm sure much more), for free, I get pissed off when I have to take out tons of student loans to cover my schooling.
I barely make enough to live, but I made too much for any "free" money, even though my taxes get put towards schooling, and more.
I'm glad their bettering themselves, but pissed at the whole situation. Let them work their butts off to pay for it.
I have to!!
Why did immigrants move to the north?
the north had many more towns which were based on manufacturing. The south was primarily an agrarian (farming) society. Many immigrants were poor. It costs money to become a farmer -- to buy land, animals, hire help etc. It was easier for them to go to northern cities and get jobs which didn't need money to get. Also many manufacturers would hire immigrants because they were willing to work for less money.
