There are 25 countries in Africa that have French as one of the official languages. That means that France has colonized about 25 countries in Africa (Don't forget there have been revalutions and countries have changed.) Most of West Africa speaks French as well as Madagascar.

The Moral and Political argument was that expansion was rejection of the nation's founding principle of "Liberty for all." Some thought imperialism was another type of racism. Also there was to many costs for the military, which caused more taxes on the United States. Plus Americans would have to compete for the jobs because people that were annexed to the U.S. would come and look for jobs.

Wilson wanted to dismantle the current imperial order of the world by offering eventual self-rule to colonies as addressed in Point Five. He also wanted the European sections of the two fallen empires to have independence immediately.

There were really only three methods that Muslim leaders used in attempts to prevent colonization: (1) implementation of local reforms to make their countries competitive with Europe, (2) organization of militaries to fight off the European imperialists (either proper militaries or local/tribal militias), and (3) trying to diplomatically force the Europeans to agree to minimize colonization. For the most part, all three of these failed spectacularly. The only quasi-success stories were Turkey and Iran.

Among the European countries that established their own colonies in Africa were Great Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. While some countries (including France, Spain, and Portugal) had colonized parts of Africa as far back as the 1500s, the majority of the colonization by the European powers occurred in the mid-to late 1800s.

To a certain extent, the Dutch were apart of this colonization as they formed a group of other Europeans who settled in what was South Africa. They were called Afrikaners.

Not that I am aware of, unless you count the Macedonian aqcuirement of Egypt in the 4th Century BC. Greece colonized the Ionian Coast of Asia Minor (Turkey), Sicily, and southern Italy. Greeks traveled to Africa, however, and they were familiar with it. There is evidence that Greece was influenced by the Ancient Egyptians. Much later in modern times, Africa was divided among European colonial powers, but Greece was not one of them.

According to Historians, the British settlement began to colonize Australia in the early 18th century in January 1788 near the Cape Cove area of Port Jackson.

With imperialism, a country would go out and claim new territories. This brought more responsibility to the country, as well as more territory that needed defending and developing. Imperialism brought the focus off of the mother country, making it more susceptible to conflicts at home and abroad.

The Italians attempted a conquest of Ethiopia in 1895 (the First Italo-Ethiopian War), but the Ethiopians forced the Italians to retreat using Russian and French-made weaponry. It was a horribly embarrassing affair for the Italians since Whites were believed to be genetically superior to Blacks and here was "White Italy" defeated by "Black Ethiopia". Italy would nurse this wound in pride by attempting a second (successful) invasion of Ethiopia over forty years later in 1935-1936.

I suppose you could say, a colony is a settlement under control/governence of another power (earth government or company) whereas "settlement" might just refer to an new autonomous settlement.

Imperialism has greatly affected the US economy. The United States has provided a wide range of products and services to all other countries around the world. Through this type of business the US has introduced the concept of democracy to these other countries allowing the United States to lead in major industries of all sorts.

Indentured servants, or people who work for an amount of years for a bit of land, money, and clothes at the end of those years, came from England in the Great Migration and were more civilized and humane. Look up indentured servants!
