What effects did imperialism have on Europe?
The affects of imperialism have been the multitude of deaths that it created in the lands where imperialistic powers made colonies and settlements. Despite the advantages of the imperialists in the use of the weapons they had, the peoples of the various colonies still attempted revolts from time to time. This was especially true in the Spanish colonies in the Western Hemisphere and in India.
For the most part, the affects centered on taking valuable farm products, and precious metals from the colonies and in many cases using the victims low cost labor to harvest & mine for various ores and minerals.
The peoples in the colonies were forced to buy manufactured products to help the European mercantilism types of economies. When newer economic policies replaced the mercantile system, the affects on the captive peoples remained the same.
Nothing can justify enslaving entire populations of people on their own lands, however, if there can be any salvation for these people, it at least, in time, gave them modern methods and the education to help their lands when the colonies became free nations.

What were the reasons for American Imperialism?
First, detractors and opponents of United States foreign policy often refer to it as "U.S. Imperialism." But, sadly, such foreign policy is not unique, and the U.S. is not the only country to be accused of it. Throughout history, many countries have invaded other countries or set up colonies or enslaved entire populations. Imperialism, the attempt to enforce the power and influence of your country on another country (often by force, but sometimes by trade policies), has been practiced by such countries as England, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Russia and China, just to name a few.
When America has been accused of imperialism, it was usually because a president wanted to establish a foreign policy favorable to America, whether other countries liked it or not. Sometimes, this involved secretly helping to overthrow a leader seen as anti-American (as happened in Guatemala in the mid-1950s), or sometimes it involved starting a war: for example, when President Bush decided to invade Iraq, some of America's critics accused the president of imperialism, of invading another country to gain control of its natural resources (in this case, oil). But a number of U.S. presidents, both Republican and Democratic, have made decisions to become involved in foreign disputes, usually because the American government believed such actions would benefit the United States in some way.
Why did Germany wanted to colonize Namibia?
The reason was mostly boring politics. By colonizing Namibia, it kept Britain from securing a continuous stretch of Africa from the southern tip to the hammer part. It also gave Germany land in which to disturb England's territories while also striping Namibia of labor and resources. Mining natural resources wouldve been another major factor in controlling the lands. Diamond deposits can be found, but the deposits of lead, zinc, tin, silver and tungsten wouldve been reason enough, especially in a time of war.

What effect did colonialism have on the mother country?
The ill effects of colonialism and it's demise after WW2 in the case of Britain has been damaging to the mother country of England.
The New Labour British government created a devolved Scottish parliament and a Welsh Assembly and Northern Ireland Assembly in 1997, in effect setting free these countries from the 'British' empire 'union of 1707' . It described them all as nations, and immediately set out to destroy England by attempting to create 'regional assemblies'.When the North East was polled 78% of the inhabitants voted against 'regionalisation', wishing to remain part of a united England. In repeated polls over the past 3 years English people have polled between 60% and 68% in favour of a devolved English Parliament. This has been refused by the Scottish elected Prime Minister.
England is the only country in Europe which is still in the grip of colonialism, a thrall to the 'British' Parliament of Westminster in which Scottish and Welsh and Northern Irish MP's can vote on English laws, yet English MP's cannot vote on any of these devolved country's laws.
England as the majority tax paying population in the defunct 'union' subsidises Scotland , Wales and Northern Ireland, but receive worse health care, schooling and care for their aged. The price of empire and the British colonial adventure has been just as high for the poor of England as for any in it's ex colonies, the difference is that the colonisers are those we trusted to represent us not to cynically disenfranchise us.
