I do not expect the nation of India to take my advice (or even to be aware of it) but I see several requirements for the future prosperity and security of India. First, the dispute over Kashmir must end. Probably the best approach is for Kashmir to become an independent country, whose sovereignty is recognized by the UN and is no longer a point of dispute between India and Pakistan. Secondly, there has to be a serious population control program. The country is too crowded and will face increasing difficulties if it cannot bring its birth rate under control. Thirdly, India faces a very grave water shortage already, and must act to increase its water supply; they can build desalination plants, or possibly import icebergs (or both). Fourth, the culture of endemic corruption and routine bribery on every level of society must end. Fifth, they will have to cultivate religious tolerance and bring an end to the various conflicts between Hinduism and other religions such as Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, etc. Then they can move on to dealing with the usual social problems; education, health care, employment, housing, etc.
