That is the Ithaca Hammerless Flues Model, made in 1914. Value depends on grade and condition and will range from a couple hundred to a couple thousand. sales@countrygunsmith.net From the serial number it appears to have been made in 1915. The value of any gun depends a great deal on its condition and how badly a collector wants that particular model. In very good condtion that gun would probably go for $300-$400 on one of the auction sites, such as gunbroker.com - maybe a little bit more since it's a 16. 12's are more common, so sell for less. The Ithaca 37 was introduced in 1937 (model named for year), and you have a very early one. Pre-war Model 37's usually rate about a 30% premium over book value. The Model 37 itself is anything but rare, however, with over 2 million produced. Book value for a Model 37 Standard Grade ranges from $75 (poor) to $250 (excellent), while the Skeet Grade ranges fro $100 to $500. The pre-war premium gets added to that value.

For whatever help this is on 20 Aug 05, I am holding an Ithaca M49 which shows that the serial number is 9 digits long and stamped into the left front side, parallel to the barrel, and forward of the trigger in the action case. Dan The earliest (around 1962) models of the M49 Saddlegun didn't have serial numbers. The serial numbers were added to the lower left of the receiver in the later 1960s as required by the gun act of 1968. I don't recall the exact dates.

You can go to just about any book store like barnes and noble and find plenty of books on gun prices. You just need to know what condition you gun is in and you can determine it from there.

Your answer would most likely be "no" unless you don't care about possibly damaging your barrel. Many of those old Ithica's have fixed full choke barrels which limit you to shot size #2 or smaller. I would not use BB or BBB. A half dozen round through it would be the most I would do in a pinch. Another option would be to purchase a $350 Hastings barrel designed for steel and rebarrel the gun. Technically they are both "Featherweight", but the Deerslayer had a shorter barrel with rifle sights for shooting slugs or buckshot. It could also be fitted with a scope.

Could you give a little more information? You've posted under American Gun Company, but these were made by Crescent Arms and that company never made an over/under shotgun. There have been several companies with "American" in their names. One good possibility is American Arms, Inc., an importer of Spanish and Italian shotguns from about 1985 to 2000.

Think of a lead ball which is the diameter of the inside of the barrel of the shotgun. The gauge of the shotgun is the number of balls that size to make up one pound.

12 balls - 12 gauge

20 balls - 20 gauge

28 balls - 28 gauge

Exception - .410 bore is the actual bore diameter

The Ithaca model 37 has been manufactured pretty much unchanged since 1937, so you be the judge if it's a good gun. The name was changed to model 87 in 1987 but changed back to model 37 around the year 2000.

I see no listing for "Featherweight" although there is a "Featherlight".

The "Enders Special Service" brand was one of the private labels made in Norwich, Conn., by Crescent (sometimes Crescent and Davis) firearms. If you look at the receiver, you'll see that the engraved nameplate is not integral to the case hardened frame. They would make the shotguns, fit them, and then apply the appropriate nameplate for the particular contract.

I have one, and it is a splendid field gun and leave my Winchester Model 12 behind.

My SN is 10544, and I date my gun to the 1920s.

Although a pretty firearm and a delight for the field, it has little collector's value. On a good day in average condition, it may bring $150 to 200. Crescent made tons of these. A fewCrescent made shotguns in "new" condition may bring up to $400.

My suggestion is that you make this piece a primary choice for hunting in the field or get it into the hands of someone who will hunt with this weapon.

That will depend on what is damaged and the condition of the remaining pieces. An Ithaca double is worth at least a few hundred dollars in operating condition but if it's a wall hanger, it's worth what you can get for it. If the stock is the only damage part, you can price a replacement at gunpartscorp.com or take it to a gunsmith for appraisal.
