The thermostat on a 1996 Jeep Cherokee is under the housing where the upper radiator hose attaches to the engine.

A very common problem is the oxygen sensor wires are shorting out on your drive shaft. Crawl under the jeep and look to see if your wires are rubbed bare from the drive shaft . tape the bare wires and resecure away from the driveline. this sensor shares the fuel pump/asd relay fuse...

I am doing it right now actually. Remove the dust plate (I am installing a new transmission), and get the bolts on from the front. Facing the vehicle, the biggest opening will be on the right side. It's not easy, but it has worked for me many times.

In the process of doing my head gasket as well, i have had the same thing happen i cracked two of my cylinder heads, i have just got another two and had them pressure checked before we put them back on, i found price not to bad �175 for the two cylinderheads, that was from charltonautoparts.co.UK (2nd hand Jeep parts), if you go to jeep there about �270 each. It is a VM (boat) engine so there are four separate cylinder heads you will need to get checked for cracks and then the gasket now comes as one gasket rather than four separate ones. I have been told that you can reuse the head bolts again once as there not stretch bolts. Someone will disagree though. I Have had so many different opinions from different places. If you find jeep prices quite alot, have alook in the back of 4X4 magazines. Good luck, Sorry can't be of more help but then i am a girl!

There is a separate head for each cylinder. Mine overheated and two of the cylinder heads cracked and had to be replaced, I'd have the heads pressure tested before I replaced the gaskets, just in case. I got a garage to do it, mechanic said it was a straightforward job but heads were v expensive. Sorry can't be of more help.

if its turning over but not firing make sure you have the right firing order, i had that happen to me onve, i replaced everything and then turned out i had two cylinders backwards

First I would check the fan clutch.Start the vehicle and let it warm up.Then watch the fan as someone else turns it off.If the fan keeps turning,then the clutch on it is bad.Also,make sure the fan shroud is still there and not broken.

start off by checking all door switches. Then check the interior switch on the dashboard. I mean by checking as in bypassing switch or disconntection of the switch. If you have the theater dimmer or the delay dimmers you would check that also.. Thanx Dom

If you have climate control check the blower module. The power wire mounted on it's circuit board overheats. The module is located on the firewall under the glove box. Check module and see if the power wire is burnt. You can get an repair kit from the dealer to fix it.

NO - is this a GRAND Cherokee or XJ? What engine does it have? smoth side of belt, to smooth pullies, groved side to groved pullies. Only the right belt will fit. Hope you gave the parts store more info than us or chances are, you have the wrong belt.

It could be a sensor under the hood gone bad. There a senors that control the idling on a car.It could be the catalitic converter stopped which is part of your exhaust system. YOu may be able to call your local parts store to see the availability of testing machines that they can hook up and do diagnostic testing, Autozone /Advance do it for free in my home state.www.autozone.com has a trobling site.
