How long does it take to master the violin?

"With previous musical experience it would take approximately 2-3 years in order to reach a high intermediate level.

Alone with no musical experience (i.e. reading notes, note sounds, etc.) at least 4-5 years to reach a high intermediate level.

The best way to learn the Violin is through practice and repetition, which in turn could shorten the amount of years it take to the intermediate level.

With daily practice and improvement, mastery could be accomplished in at least 7-8 years.

In the case of mastery being playing by ear, it would be at least 7-8 years to fully grasp a song and play it using hearing.

Note, however, that no instrument can truly be mastered due to the fact that even professionals have not completely perfected their abilities."

While I agree, I would also say the amount of time taken to master the violin is related to a) your teacher and their abilities, and b) the amount of time that you practice. Many people take longer periods of time to 'master' the violin, while others can pick it up in a shorter amount of time. Also, different types of practice are healthy. While solo practice is good for building technique, I would recommend learning to play with a group, which can prove to be fun and teach many valuable lessons
